Thank you to all the customizers who entered. this contest wouldn’t have been possible without the motivation, imagination, and talent of each and every one of you. Special thanks to my good friends TheLongestDay, TANK_DRIVER785 and Night Force Jazz, who helped out with some much needed extra fighters.

This contest has been a blast for me. I hope that everyone enjoyed these incredible customs as much as I did. Great job, everyone!!!

Because of the deadly nature of these fights, no one will be allowed to witness any of the matches. A few observations from the first round.

Wu-Shi vs K.O.Kong - Wu-shi wasted no time in scoring an early victory over Kong. Ironically the match ended in a K.O.

K.C vs Kojo "Snake" Masters - K.C. seemed focused on some kind of ninja heirloom during the match. While he was distracted, Snake struck him right between the goal posts to end the fight.

Master Tao vs Cassius Clay Renquist - I don't know what to say about this one. Somehow Cassius snuck two guns into the arena. Master Tao took a few shots before disarming him. Literally.

Reaper vs Destruction - This was the first fight for Reaper and it ended up being a long battle. It looked as if neither opponent would make a mistake. Unfortunately for Destruction, computers don't make mistakes.

Jade vs El Conquistador - This was one of the fights that I was looking forward to the most. It delivered. Jade danced around El Conquistador for the majority of the fight. I actually thought the girl would pull out a win. In the end, El Conquistador gave a salute and a smile and then spun into a viscious cyclone of steel. He's quite the dancer too.

Bearclaw vs Tatsuya - Mmmm...Donuts...

Hard knox vs Iwao - This was a slugfest. It was also one sided.

Yuki no Kuro Uma vs CUD - The reigning champion had no beef with CUD, but he was intent on a repeat championship. At the sound of the first bell, the champ took the fight to CUD. Then there were bells after bells after bells. It's never good to get beat with your own weapon.

John doe vs Ghost Tiger - Ghost Tiger showed his experience in this fight. John Doe didn't have a chance, it was like he was fighting some kind of super hero.

Purple Hunt vs Daisuke - This was the battle of chain weapons. Turns out that hers was bigger.

Gatos vs Wu-Ta - This was a sad fight to watch. Gatos had so much potential, but the strength and training of Wu-Ta overpowered Gatos.

Ni Stoplock vs Bakemono - Not much is known about this fight.

Jackson fury vs Siege - Both fighters had equal strength, but Seige had a jetpack. What goes up must come down. And Jackson did. I stopped counting after the seventh time.

Gikan vs Sticks - We all learned something from this fight: don't bring sticks to a sword fight.

Hrothmeir vs Yasuo - My money was actually on the ninja for this fight. I thought it would have been a good bet, but Hrothmeir is quite a fighter. He's a master with the spear using the long range to keep Yasuo at bay and wear him down.

Xiao Hu vs Kung Fu Kid - The People's Choice fighter appeared in the final fight of the day. Kung Fu master vs Kung Fu kid. No contest. Xiao Hu made the boy look like he was doing karate.

My thoughts on round two.

Wu-Shi vs Kojo "snake" Masters - Wu-Shi looks possessed when he fights. Snake tried his best, but once he was knocked down, he could not recover.

Reaper vs Master Tao - The wounds from the earlier fight seemed to be the downfall for Master Tao. Reaper, taking full advandtage of the opportunity, pressed the attack. Master Tao couldn't match the pace set by Reaper and was defeated.

Bearclaw vs El Conquistador - El Conquistador is on a roll. Bearclaw fought an honorable fight but in the end was overpowered by a better opponent.

Hard Knox vs Yuki No Kuro Uma - Hard Knox came out swinging. The Champ took everything the Dreadnok threw at him. Where the kitchen sink came from is anyone's guess. After weathering the storm, the champ returned fire, never letting up, and eventually knocked out Hard knox (he's still arguing that it never happened).

Purple Hunt vs Ghost Tiger - Ghost Tiger was an animal in the arena. Purple Hunt became easy prey when the chain of her weapon snapped when caught by the hook swords of the Tiger. He pounced and ended what little chance Purple had to make it to the next round.

Bakemono vs Wu-Ta - Bakemono is a complete mystery. Even Wu-Ta could not figure him out and was left to wonder if his wounds would ever heal from this battle.

Gikan vs Siege - Gikan, a noble fighter, was under Siege most of the fight. Ruling the skies, Siege was able to use hit and run tatics to seal the win.

Xiao Hu vs Hrothmeir - Both warriors fought with honor. The People's Choice proved why he was their champion. He struck at will and seemed to dodge every attack Hrothmeir made. Eventually the armor was too much weight for the man from the monastery. It was nice to see the victor help the defeated warrior to his feet.

There is much commotion today my friends! Once everything in the arena has settled and is under control, the fights will continue. I can't say anything right now because what has happened is so unexpected and we need to be prepared for any reactions. I will return with the results of today's matches when all of the fights have been completed.

Round 3 wrap up.

Wu Shi vs Reaper – This was an incredible fight! Wu-Shi has been the dominant fighter in every match. That is until now. Reaper looked as if he found Wu-Shi’s weakness. Wu-Shi sensed the urgency to end the fight and quickly changed up tactics, discarding the charge for a more defensive stance. When Reaper came at him, Wu-Shi countered and struck the weak point of Reaper, his neck. Down went Reaper. Once again, Wu-Shi was victorious.

Reaper did very well to advance this far in his first tournament and would make a wonderful Apprentice…

Yuki no Kuro Uma vs El Conquistador –The Kumite Champion was expected to repeat his championship. The man from Spain gave all he had and more. It was evenly matched for most of the fight. Suddenly, without warning, it was all over as the once proud Champion collapsed under El Conquistador’s attack. All hell broke loose after the fight. “Did he take a dive?” one person said. “Did someone interfere with the match?” said another. No one believed that this could happen. El Conquistador had defeated the Reigning Kumite Champion. Other fighters stormed the arena and guards had to be called in to restore peace.

Everyone knew that only the Chosen One can defeat a Kumite Champion…

Bakemono vs Ghost Tiger – Another exciting fight! Filled with action, I was glad to see that the earlier events would not affect these warriors. Ghost Tiger attacked with such fury and Bakemono seemed to disappear and appear from nowhere. Ghost Tiger was out of control, or so it seemed. Ghost Tiger’s ruse was a trap and Bakemono took the bait and was caught in it. There was no escape and Bakemono was forced to yield.

Xiao Hu vs Siege - After watching Siege’s last two matches I wasn’t confident in the Chosen One being victorious. But would Siege’s air superiority still be an advantage in this arena? Xiao-Hu deftly avoided Siege’s air attacks while making his way to the highest point of the platforms. He is quite an acrobat! Siege came at him again looking to finally grab the monk. At the last possible second, Xiao Hu side stepped and using his staff struck his opponent’s jetpack. Smoke instantly billowed from the tanks and Siege spiraled to the ground. Xiao followed him down and ended the fight with one last strike. Smiling, the monk bowed to his opponent and extended an offer to come visit his temple sometime.

Round 4 revelations.

Wu-Shi vs El Conquistador – Everyone knew this could have been a championship match. Wu-Shi’s skills with a blade were equally matched by those of El Conquistador. Both fighters had good range and each had proven their worth time and time again. It would seem to be a stalemate. Wu-Shi saw El Conquistador making his way to the highest platform to use it to his advantage. Wu-Shi never stopped him. Reaching the top, El Conquistador looked puzzled when his leg was pulled out from under him. He lost his balance, slipping off the platform and into the water.

If it weren’t for the armor and heavy steel blades, he would have jumped onto the nearest platform. We could only watch and wait for him to surface. At last he did, after stripping himself of his armor and blades. Wu-Shi was waiting, the fight had ended and The Chosen One had been defeated…

Xiao Hu vs Ghost Tiger – This was a battle of epic proportions! Strike, counter, strike, counter again and again. When you thought one fighter had the advantage, the other fighter suddenly gained an edge. The monk pressed the attack harder and harder while the Tiger dodged or absorbed the power of Shaolin. Ghost Tiger looked worried, but unlike before this was no ruse. as the Monk charged, Ghost Tiger saw his chance and trapped the monk’s staff just as Xiao Hu was about to strike his head. Snap. The staff was broken and Xiao Hu was forced to fight unarmed.

Ghost Tiger unleashed his fury using his sudden advantage to its maximum. The monk retreated, looking for Ghost Tiger to make a mistake. In a last ditch effort, Xiao Hu leaped over Ghost Tiger to strike him from behind. Ghost Tiger saw this catching the monk in mid air with his hook swords. Pinned on the ground, Xiao Hu had no choice but to yield. Ghost Tiger released the monk. He had secured his place in the finals.

Final impressions of Round 5.

Wu-Shi vs Ghost Tiger – The two greatest warriors of the tournament face off! This was the hardest fight to watch. Because of the darkness, there was very little to be seen. Even with the few torches scattered around the arena, I could not tell what was happening. This was an environment that only a ninja could love.

The sounds of clashing metal were the only thing that filled the arena. No one knew how this would end. After what seemed like an eternity, but was probably no more than ten minutes, a figure emerged from the shadows. Ghost Tiger! But wait…what was this? Ghost Tiger looked to be struggling. A second figure emerged from the shadows. It was Wu-Shi, he had captured the Tiger! He led Ghost Tiger out of the arena and became the new Kumite Champion!

Congratulations to Wu-Shi, the new Kumite Champion! He defeated all of his opponents and mastered every arena to claim his title.

Thanks again to all the customizers that entered (and helped out) to make this such an awesome contest!

Kumite Fun Facts:

· I started working on this contest while hosting the Undisputed Ninja Master Custom Contest last year. I wanted to have a martial arts contest with more than just ninja.
· The customizers and the board had 3 of the same fighters in their top 5 (Wu-Shi, Xiao Hu, and Reaper).
· 11 of the customizers who entered had Wu-Shi in their top 5 .
· Customizer top 5 – Wu-Shi, Ghost Tiger, Xiao Hu, Reaper, Siege.
· Board top 5 – Xiao HU, Wushi, Gikan, Reaper, Bakemono.
· This was the first custom contest that I hosted in which the customizers who entered decided who won.
· It wasn’t easy deciding on the Chosen One. Well written bios, custom execution (design, parts, paints), and unique custom weapons were some of the criteria that I used to make my decision.
· Jade and Purple Hunt were the only female fighters in the tournament.
· The former Kumite Champ, Yuki no Kuro Uma translated to English means ‘The Irrepressible Dark Horse’. Dark Horse is the moniker for an exceptional customizer whose head I used for the champ (Tri-Gate custom cast). He tends to look like Wolverine so I made the champ resemble him too.
· Each of the 8 extra fighters that I made had one of the weapons from the Kumite Custom Weapons Packs.
· Tatsuya, Iwao, and Daisuke are all ninja in the Daremo Ninja Clan. Iwao is the only completed figure.
· John Doe is my Nth Man (by Larry Hama) wip.
· Ni Stoplock is really Shin-Gouki (Shin->Knee->Ni, Go->Stop, Ki->Key->Lock).
· Sticks was the first all black ninja that I made.
· Yasuo was my Arashikage Ninja based on Marvel issue #26.
· Kung Fu Kid is my self custom.
· Bakemono was a complete unkown coming into the tournament.
· CUD was the only custom that had a monogrammed belt buckle. This was hands down the funniest custom. Death bell? Classic!
· Xiao Hu became the People’s Choice after an extra day of voting up against Wu-Shi.
· Wu-Ta has 43 Arashikage to go.
· Jackson Fury is the brother of Bryan Fury of Tekken fame.
· The Arena names for each round (Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Void) are based on the 5 elements in Japanese philosophy.
· Master Tao vs Xiao Hu would have been a great fight!
· Kojo ‘Snake’ Masters was the only fighter to be in professional sports.
· Going by the bios, there were only 4 ninja in the tournament (Reaper, Wu-Ta, Gikan, Purple Hunt)
· Siege beat a ninja in the tournament.
· Gikan was the only O-ring custom figure in the contest. The customizers ranked him #9 while the board had him at #3.
· The Apprentice, Reaper, was DonMagic’s first completed custom.
· El Conquistador, Gatos, Purple Hunt, Hrothmeir, and Bearclaw were also considered for The Apprentice award.
· Hrothmeir had 2 different outfits.
· Hard Knox placed exactly in the middle of all the entries.
· Ghost Tiger was more popular with the customizers than the board. Strange.
· In the next Kumite tournament, any character that entered the first tournament will be able to compete again. It will be bigger and better.
