first off! this contest is for ANYONE AND EVERYONE! beginners and veterans!

please post your customs here in this thread to be picked for winning status!

at least 3 photos unaltered and no photoshop!

Please read all the rules below carefully:

The goal of this contest is to spark the creativity of our board members and produce some of the best customs we can! We all love a challenge and who doesn’t like great prizes? The difference with this contest is that you are making a commissioned piece in return for your prize. We have a ton of great prizes and trust me when I say it will be worth your time.

SIDE NOTE!

Only the winners will be sending customs to receive prizes

Categories:

1) Assassins, Snipers and Hitmen oh my! Create an original JOE, IG, Cobra, NOK or freelance gun for hire.

2) 2 pack wish – Any original or yet to be made/remade combo you can dream up from the GI joe universe.

3) Man and his best friend! Original or remake character with animal.

4) Pimp my ride- Customize any vehicle or create your own. Can be for any faction and serve any function.

5) Where are all the ladies? Joes,IG,Cobra & Noks must have a women tough enough to become EEL , Snow Serpent, Ranger, infantry, IG, or dreadnoks! Let’s see them.

6) Video game characters! any character from any console or computer game! male female! creature or robot!


Rules:

1) All commissions/customs must be made in GI Joe 25th Anniversary style. You may use whatever parts you like but the finished product must be able to fit in seamlessly with other GI JOE 3 ¾ universe. Vehicles must be in 1:18 scale. A grand prize will be awarded, selected from any category. Each category will have a first prize and possibly a second prize dependent on the number of entries in that category (second prize award is at the discretion of the judges). A best amateur prize will also be awarded, which can be selected from any category.

2) You may enter as many entries in as many categories as you wish. This commission/contest will be open to anyone in the 50 states and Canada. Hiss tank members, customfigurewars.com board members etc..in good standing. International board members please check with judges prior to submission.

3) A minimum of 4 contestants (not entries!) must enter a category to make it valid to be judged for a first place category win. This however, does not mean that you can’t win the grand prize or amateur prize. Any category without enough contestants the first category prize will be redistributed as best suits the contest.

4) Redemption of prizes: All winning entries are commissions and upon shipping the entry with a tracking number your prize(s) shipped to you with a tracking number. This is very important. Please do not enter the contest if you do not agree with this stipulation. Further information in regards to address etc will be provided at end of contest.

5) Your custom must be created exclusively for this commission/contest and may not have been posted anywhere else previously. Entries posted previously or else where will be invalid.

6. no overly goofy customs will be allowed in the finals


Judging:

All entries will be reviewed by a select panel of judges. (Lucard123 and myself ) These Judges will not participate in the contest. We will be looking for the following:

· Originality
· Parts
· Paint
· Sculpting
· Difficulty level
· Accessories
· Overall Presentation

You have 6 weeks to complete your entry. Contest begins 7/10/10 and deadline for entries will be *EDIT* 9/5/10. No entries will be accepted beyond this date. No exceptions. All entries will be posted within thread.

lucard asked that it be that way because he has abunch of joe toys loose and moc and he thought making a contest would be better then just selling them this contest is for anyone to enter if that fact keeps them from entering then thats there choice the prize lots for the winners are going to be pretty good and well worth any custom anyone makes i would be entering it but im sponsoring it i see your logic with that but this contest is more for the community any any customizer to have there hand at a contest

My thinking was to be able to give the customizers entering more of a chance to win prizes.
But I hardly think that winning MOC new resolute figures or loose figures or winning the new resolute 7 packs(Joe or Cobra), Alpha or Bravo vehicles is a small prize not worth it.
Yes, I put the A-team MOC on there that would be part of a "lot" that would include several other things and that prize wouldnt be the first place prize.
Most of the things that are being offered are not prizes you could walk into TRU and buy. I have almost all the 25 line vehicles and I am gibing most of them away in a lot. Even if you did buy them that would be well over 200 dollars.
If the majority feel that the contest is of no interest then I would agree with Ratfink and cancel.
If we continue with it then I know it will be worth it for many of the great customizers on the board.

I can't speak for anyone else, but when I decide to do a custom, it's because I want this item in my personal collection and would have a hard time parting with it.
Now, it's rare that a custom contest involves vehicles, and that is my favorite customs to do. ( I really dislike making figures) So I am willing to give this one a shot. Besides, compared to so many talented people on here, having to send my custom in because I won is unlikely.

Cobra developed the Variable Assault -.Mass Purge Incursion Robot Battle Android Trooper for use in those times that the organization needed an individual or group of individuals eliminated at any cost. As the the original B.A.T.s are dangerous to friend and foe alike, the V.A.M.P.I.R. B.A.T.s can be air dropped into an area to eliminate any pre-programmed target(s). The standard V.A.M.P.I.R. B.A.T. comes armed with 7.62 mm Vulcan cannon, a 40 mm multiple grenade launcher, and a high yield explosive self-destruct . Models can be custom outfitted for specific missions as well. They are relentless killing machines that will do anything to kill their prey.

This is my 4th custom. I came up with the idea out of the blue after discovering the custom BAT weapons sold by Asphalt (Hunter Artworks). I had an extra Wraith and an extra BAT so this guy was born. I wanted a weathered metal (I know how everyone here hates the all black look) scheme, but had never painted anything that way before. It was a lot of trial and error, and despite the fact I think my silver paint is way past its prime, I am happy with it. I was torn about whether I wanted to take the chance of losing the custom weapons (in the very rare chance I were to win anything), so I made my own instead. I apologize for the corny name, but I am terrible at creating acronyms.

Here is my entry for the Pimp My Ride... The Battle Android Delivery System or B.A.D.S.

Name- David

Time I Have Been Customizing- For Years. As a teenager, I would make my own vehicles because I couldn't afford to buy them.

User Name- Arthurdent

Name of Custom- Battle Android Delivery System (B.A.D.S.)

Recipe- None. It's all scratch built from posterboard.

Bio/Background- The B.A.D.S. is a single-use drone specifically designed to carry a Cobra BAT to a distant target. It is often used as a diversion for Cobra raids, by launching and landing a BAT with a berserker attack program. It is launched and programmed to crash into the ground far away from the actual target: When it hits the top opens and a Cobra BAT emerges, firing at everything around it, making the locals rush their people in to destroy it before the Bat levels the area. While the local police/military rush their best into the area to stop the BAT, Cobra is making a raid on another target virtually unopposed. It's also good for breaking up military formations by lobbing several BADS into it: When it hits the BAT emerges blazing away at everything, killing troops and wrecking vehicles until it is destroyed... and while the BAT is doing that, Cobra is attacking from the outside of the formation. It can be either air or ground launched and uses a solid-fuel rocket for propulsion. It's cheap to make, easy to deploy, and uses BATs which are considered to be expendable to begin with and don't need to be recovered after the battle. The standard model has no parachute because a BAT can withstand the ground impact without harm: Some models were later retofitted with chutes and used to get spies or other agents into difficult areas.

Rama first came to the attention of the G.I. Joe team after Operation Khukri in 2000. As a member of the Indian ParaCommandos, he and his men dropped into Sierra Leone and overtook their objectives with minimal casualties. He is proficient in numerous small arms and anti-tank weapons, but is most deadly weilding his M-4 or RPG-7. He is also deadly unarmed as a he is a master of both Gatka and Krav Maga martial arts disciplines.
He rescued and adopted a young elephant who he named Ganesh during a raid on an Arbco Bros. Circus which was in fact a front for Cobra. His teammates joke about the day that the elephant is big enough for Rama to ride him over the Alps.
“Rama is like Jekyll and Hyde. Back at base he is a big teddy bear, but get him on the battlefield, or get between him and Ganesh, and he liable to rip your arms out of their sockets and beat you to death with them.”


SPECIAL NOTES (optional)This is now my 5th custom. I had bought an extra Chief Guard on ebay, and was going to use his head as some sort of villain. Unfortunately it was way to large for the figures I wanted to use it on. Plan B was to meld it with a Joe figure, and I found a tutorial on how to combine the 2 styles of bodies. Rather than make him a villain, I decided that diversity was in order, and that what would be more diversified than a Sikh soldier. A little research and viola, Rama was born. I thought he looked lonely, so I bought the elephant as his sidekick and decked him out with gear as well. This one was probably the hardest one I have done so far with trying to get all the pieces to fit together.

With a washout rate or 87% it's hard enough to survive as a man. In all of the Alley Viper Corps there are but a handful of women.

When I think G.I. Joe and 2 packs, I think G.I. Joe vs Cobra, so I wanted to update one, but in the POC style. That meant uniforms with textures and dry-brush applications.

For Forstbite, I used the Resolute Jetpack Duke torso because it has real good texture to it that fit in with the POC concept. I wanted him to look more like the card art, which has an oxygen mask that snaps into the helmet but is removable, some green elements, not just black and white like the figure, and a leg harness. It also didn't have the leg pads like the figure, which I didn't mind not adding.

rather than go with skis like Snow Job, I gave him snow shoes to differentiate him, and modded the backpack to fit a shotgun. On his waist I also added a knife sheath -- POC means armed. Lastly, POC also has a lot of camo, so rather than just plain white I added a blue and gray camo pattern. Backpack is dry brushed.

For Neo-Viper, I went with a gray-blue because POC does not utilize the classic Cobra colors that the original was in. The Snake Eyes torso and Elite Viper legs provided nice texture. The armor had to be dry brushed like POC, so I went with a metallic look rather than a gray. Red Cobra symbols match POC better than the yellows of the original. Had to have a removable helmet, and an extra pistol holster.

Hiss Tank V1 Body
Styrene sheet and rod for: turets, gas can holders, storage racks, tie loops, 'canopy'.
Cast plastic reproductions for all the accessories.
Grilles on front from Havoc tank track covers.

BIO/BACKGROUND (optional)
While everyone was busy fawning over Cobra Commander's new Hiss Tank some cobra soldier's were busy outfitting an old faithful Hiss V1 for desert battle. It may not be the most technically advanced vehicle but it has four long-distance laser cannons, soldier and weapon storage, and it is not marroon. Coooobrrraaa!

SPECIAL NOTES (optional)
Similar to the background; when this contest started everyone was taking the new Desert Battle Hisstank and customizing it every which way. I thought I'd take an old Hiss and customize it for desert battle. After about two months and trying everything I've ever read on casting, painting, sculpting plastic, etc., this is what I got. It isn't perfect but this contest has definately pushed me to learn a lot of new things. Outfitted it with some desert figs for photos/scale and here are the images.

this vehicle is simply a repaint of the poc ghosthawk with some modification.

BIO/BACKGROUND (optional)

i thought i would give zandar and gnawgahyde an update of their sky hawk ride from the 86 sears air assault set. though, with the colors, their not sneaking up on anybody. :D

the only modification the craft needed was with the thrusters. i had to trim up around the pivoting stem so that it would glide without scraping the paint. the actual pivot point and cradle are not painted but stained red so that it could remain functional as it moved and not be impaired by peeling paint.

This is my next entry in Pimp-My-Ride. I do have a problem though... Sending it in if it wins. This vehicle is 39 inches long, 10 wide, 5 deep , and 10 inches tall.

Recipe- The "Hull" is made from a weedwhacker box and the bridge is made from foamboard and cardboard and painted.

Bio/Background- When the military needs to get vehicles and troops to a specific area, they use landing boats or landing craft to get them from large ships offshore onto the land. This is one of the type of LCs(Landing Craft) the joes use to get gear and troops in and out, and for shuttling supplies to and from shore.

NAME OF CUSTOM: ALLEY VIPER H.I.S.S. Tank - "Annhialatum" .

RECIPE: (Alley Viper not included)
Main - 25th blue HISS TANK.
Front and Rear "Shields" - One is Green Stuff, the other is Super Sculpy
Large guns are from a Cobra Hydrofoil
Mine Holder - old accessories pack Trip-Wire backpack
Various Warhammer 40K bits

BIO/BACKGROUND: Alley Vipers are known for their ruthless urban fighting tactics. They hit hard and are hard to knock down. To compliment and further enhance their urban warfare abilities, Cobra developed H.I.S.S. Tanks specialized for Alley Viper teams. The H.I.S.S. tanks are upgraded with even more armaments and extra armor to handle any urban battle field.
You may laugh when you see their bright colors coming at you, but with such a versatile armored arsenal at their disposal, you won't laugh long.

SPECIAL NOTES (optional) :
A special thanks to my buddy Gyre-Viper. This custom was inspired by him. He and I were talking quite some time ago, and he had mentioned how cool it would be if the Alley Vipers had their own assault vehicle. Though I think, if I recall correctly, he was thinking more along the lines of a humvee. Sorry Gyre, no Humvee to spare. My Joes would be mad at me if I took theirs. I was able to get a good deal from my Destro on the HISS Tank, so I went with that. ;)
Anyway, it seemed like such a cool idea! So when this contest came up, I thought it would be a great opportunity to get back into customizing (its been a while, almost forgot how much I like doing it) and so I went with it!
So again, thanks for the idea Gyre! And thanks to our hosts for having this contest. Hopefully I'll start churning out some more customs again!

Some things I'd like to point out:
The front canopy armor I didn't attach because I'm not sure if I like it better WITH or WITHOUT.
Details
- 3x Smoke launchers for concealing the tank during a fire fight
- search light attached to main turret
- twin flame thowers mounted underneath cockpit
- missile pod also mounted beneath cockpit
- lights on top of canopy and in front
- armored doors under the cockpit. This allowed me to further carry the orange color down and onto the bottom half of the tank.
- the inside of the cockpit needed more controls. So I put some there! hehe. (ALL hand painted) I even included a neat "skull on a stick". I realize its too far up to be a shifter, but with ones imagination it could be...something. Or...maybe the driver just likes silver skulls! ;)
- various other little extra details here and there.
One of my favorites is the "mystery canister" (for lack of a better word) that is attached under the chassis on the left side of the tank. It is removable and it opens. Oooh, what are those Alley Vipers up to? lol

I hear that. Although, I'm really digging "The Killer", that is my kinda fig...armed to da teeth. In addition my other favorites are the Frag/Techno 2-pack, mainly because Frag Viper was always one of my favorite Cobras for the backpack alone. I like the AV Hiss too Hawk b/c well, I like the Hiss and I love AVs and your drybrushing looks great. I could go on but I'm not going to, dinner is ready. mmm...tacos.

There's lots of great stuff here. The AV HISS is my favorite vehicle posted (I want to copy it since a HISS makes much more sense for AVs then the Rage, the HISS has a much smaller footprint and could fit in small alleys and such). Anyway, I can't wait to see who wins what category.

Yeah, this was great. I really appreciate the opportunity. I know some people had reservations about this contest initially which makes everyone who entered that much cooler. After all, it seems to me, the process of making customs and the fun (and headaches) involved should be paramount to any finished piece.

I also had a suggestion on prize distribution, take it or leave it. So I’m assuming once a list is made up everyone will get a choice of x-number of pieces (weighted possibly, like the Resolute packs might equal 7 ’units’ and a loose vehicle might equal 2 or 3 while a loose or carded figure may equal 1) Then everyone lists their prize wants 1., 2., 3., most wanted to least wanted and then you guys pick each persons 1, then 2, then 3, and so on and so forth (in the case the number 1 is the same it’d be up to you guys and up to us as we list to think about it.) Anyway, this way wouldn’t leave the last person to message their list with no goodies but it would require more work on your part and, well, hey, you’ve already ran a contest for us. Just an idea, a long, meandering, just woke up in the middle of the night, idea.
