From Atari to PS3 and every Coin-Op ever...what were the CHEAPEST moves, cheats, glitches and everything else that had you pulling out your hair...and wanting to strangle the guy you were playing?
Here are a few of mine:
Madden: Tight game, down to the wire and out of nowhere my RB fumbles and its recovered by the cpu.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: Using "Jill" as an assist and getting "Life" everytime I'm about to K.O. you.
Capcom: Tech Hit...F**K YOU!!!
COD MW2: Guys that run through a virtual stream of SCAR fire, only to kill me with Akimbo Rangers point blank.
Mortal Kombat: Being a noob and facing that kid who froze and uppercutted you CONSTANTLY
Madden: 3rd and long--CPU uses a run play and sheds 3 tacklers to convert. On the ground?! SUCK MY D!!!!!!!
rascal!

Stanley Cup on Super Nes!
if you dumped it in at right at center ice it'd fly right past the goalie and into the net.
Me and my best friend would call "no dumps" before we'd start a game, and whoever was losing in the third would eventually pull one.
we were dicks.

That was based on Randall Cunningham who was the original "scrambler".
Try beating the Bears on the original Tecmo...every guy on defense was almost as fast as the "fastest guy".

Teenage mutan ninja turtles for the NES. This little jump in the sewers or some wharehouse that was freaking impossible. You spend hours trying to make this bastard of a jump only to find out by mistake that you can just walk over the gap. I think i cried when i finaly got over the gap.
This game did not survive. I think i smashed it into tiny bits. The whole game was torture

TMNT is up there with X-men on Nes.
Now you younger pups might not believe this, but at one time the X-men weren't the powerhouse franchise that they are now.
So when i heard they had a game i was super excited.

both cost me an entire months paper route salary and i picked them up,then had to go away for the weekend...and it'd be a three hour drive until i could play them.

Well, I was the day the Champion Ed. came out, and only because every game in the area was full of A-holes who wandered around the arcade waiting for kids to play, then they'd casually slip their change in, immediately interrupting my game, as if they hadn't been hoping to make a child feel like ass.
So, it was crummy as hell of me and not fun, but robbing their quarters and pissing them off was nice. Vega worked well too for revenge.
Something about the 1P mode that was cheap? You've got to charge moves, the computer doesn't.
The original MK cheap move was infinite leg sweeps.

Same here, Dragon Punch beat all cheap tactics once we all learned it. It seemed so hard to do back then!
BattleToads jetski level in probably the most notoriously difficult thing in gaming! Decent NES brawler...then the most frustrating, impossible level that goes on forever.
You know what wad crap? The original NES TMNT game. I think I spent half my life watching friends trying to diffuse bombs underwater and dying by electrocution.
That X-Men gane was made worse by the fact that I called Toys R Us like twice a week for months on end waiting for its release. Worst game ever.

Anyone remember Bushido Blade for Playstation? My little 9 year old niece would play the same girl character and kill me every time with one single move. It was the only move she would do and she would time it just right every single time!
Other than getting my ass handed to me by a little girl, I still think it was one of the best fighting games as far as realism is concerned.

I used to walk home after spending my last quarter at the arcades yelling "shoryuken!!" and jumping like dumbass pretending i was doing a dragon puch. I'd sneak in a "hadoken" once in a while

Back in the day, my bro and I would play the orig. Super Mario Bros. for the NES. I would convince him to be the 2nd player since his name was Luigi as well. If you guys remember, for player 2 to get a turn, it meant that player 1 had to have lost a life. Well, being a jerk and wanting to play again as soon as possible, I would hit start on my controller and pause the game while my bro was in the middle of jumping a gap. Then, when I hit start again to unpause, Luigi would always fall straight down the hole. He would cry, and I would laugh. To this day, he doesn't trust me to play co-op with him.

My brother and I were playing Age of Empires II years ago and we were allied against the CPU's 6 civilizations. During the game I was building cannon towers all around our two civilizations. Once the game was pretty much in hand against the CPU, I switched my allegiance to "enemy" and my cannon towers blew my brother's ass clean off the map! :D

My friend and I would do the same thing with Gyromite. His ROB was busted or something and we had to rely on each other to make the pistons work. Little bastard would wait until I was almost done with the level and trap or smash me.
Did anyone play the atrocity that was Raiders of the Lost Ark on the Atari 2600? What was the point of it? I had seen the movie as a kid and knew what the story was, but when did he wind up in a marsh evading tsetse flies, or going to the black market (I know there's a market scene in the film, but the manual included with the game specifically mentioned the Black Market). How about when you're supposed to leave a grenade near the edge of the screen to open a secret room? WTF?

And the underwater level is easy if you purposely sacrifice one turtle and leave one of the early bombs alone, until your second life.

Virtually every Final Fantasy game had some beetch in the game somewhere who could always wipe out your entire party with a single hit. You could invest hours, even days maxing out every single stat and unlocking all the strongest weapons only to be taken out in one attack...now that is cheap. I've still never killed Ultimate Weapon in FF8.

Lemme tell ya...it's offical, Madden 2010 is the cheapest.
I'm playin the Jets--heavy snow, as the Titans (but in Oilers threads, cuz I'm old school)--1:24 left on the clock and I pretty much have em pinned at their own 30.
Doin my best Al Michaels-John Madden impression I'm pretty confident I have this one...it's 27-21.
They convert on 3rd & 18--burn out the clock then score a touchdown with 10 sec left.
When I tell you I had double coverage on that mother f'er..I did..
I'll trade you a PS3 for a Defiant.

The Karate Kid one is up there man--when he spit on the cartridge I almost pissed myself.
He reminds me of my friend's little brother who had MAJOR anger/spaz issues and would freak out and actually spit on the tv screen while playing Ghosts N Goblins.
That was golden.

In retrospect he probably had/has some issues...I mean he was that kid that would be like "dare me to jump off the roof?"
Just not...100%
His older brother would invite us over and then it was "Hey Bri, why don't you show everyone how far you can get in G&G"--knowing damn well he was gonna get spastic.
By high school they were having full brown brawls over Mario Kart. I'm not making this up!

There was a kid that played tabletop D&D that I thought was going to kill the DM when his character died.

I remember playing Super Street Fighter 2 for the Genesis, getting to Sagat, and getting my butt handed to me because the CPU kept spamming high and low Tiger shots.

For myself I studied every single King chain throw in tekken. I used to love dropping a quarter, hitting a sequence and watching the guy next to me cry as the loose 99% of their health with one chain. :D

One of the reasons I rarely play Fight Night Round 4 online these days is because of the ridiculous number of "right body hook" spammers. I'm good enough at FNR4 that I can beat most any novice player that relies exclusively on the move, but it's damn near impossible for me to beat a skilled player who resorts to spamming it when they feel like they're in for a fight unless I spam the move myself. And that really, really drains the fun out of the multiplayer online. I don't want to waste 20 minutes counter-spamming. I actually have more fun these days designing CABs (Create-a-Boxers) and then watching simulated fights with the computer AI controlling both fighters.

I mentioned the NES version. I never played the SNES one. You're right though, the original was hard as hell.
Anyone remember the old Sierra RPG adventure games for the PC in the mid to late '80s when you had to type all the action commands. If you didn't get the right word in there they wouldn't do anything. I was so excited to see the click feature in Quest For Glory IV.

I remember trying to beat the final and best guy in the World Tour for Virtua Tennis for The Dreamcast. He wore like english clothing and we played on grass (the fake Wimbledon tournament) and I freaking just could not beat him... I swear to god he knew where I was going to hit the tennis balls before it got there. I spent hours just trying to beat him... the cheater. LOL.

Right now... after like a hundred bazillion tries... I am still trying to complete Desperate Escape on RE5 on Veteran. It is freaking impossible. LOL. How the heck am I going to beat it on Professional so I can get my trophy when I can't even get to the fourth part on Veteran. *screams in rage* LOL.
Surfing on T&C Surf....I was either spastic or that was ridiculously hard.
I remember that. LOL.
Street Fighter II: Crouching Footsweep (LK) to throw, repeat. Back in the day in LA Arcades that would get you shown the back door and a Boot Party would be thrown in your honor.
I remember people used to get mad at you when you used to throw them while they were blocking... and if you did it by accident you were expected to let them throw you back to even things out. LOL.
Old PC game called Conquest of Camelot. They made you match the Greek symbol to the name of the Greek god/goddess. Pre-internet that crap was impossible.
HOLY CRAP! I REMEMBER THIS! Ahahahaha. I got it by accident by trial and error and trying to do every combination possible. LOL. And yah pre-internet, I had to resort to nearby encyclopedias and dictionaries for any help of any kind. LOL. I actually got it though... don't even remember how many tries it took... but it took A LOT! LOL.
the entire game of ghosts and goblins on the nes. sooooo many cheap hits.
OMG. That games was brutal... what was worse is I liked that game, so I kept playing it. LOL.

In Goldeneye I used to put proximity mines at all of the spawn points(until it happens to you), ammo boxes, armor, and on the top of door frames. We played 1 hit kill mode. Also in the Facility you could do a spin and go back up the AC vent and camp there.

Sniping with the Red Riot on Shogo multiplayer for Pc. Just one of many cheap ass tactics I use on that games multiplayer. Used to host games for it a little while back with other forum members from Pcefx, always came in first. Def a fun game.

I don't consider that cheating... without that Contra would have been utterly unplayable from the start; those extra lives just made the game 5% less impossible. LOL.
