My Target had a bunch of wave 1&2 yesterday. I'm seriously considering just buying a case of wave 4 so I only have to hunt for Storm Shadow.

If you're going to order online Homer, I would just order a set of each. SS only comes in the wave 3 case and there is only one of him. He's going to be the hardest to find I think. Even some of the wave 4 figures only come 1 in a case (Lifeline, Sci-Fi, Law, and Airtight).

Wave 2 (mostly with some wave 1) clogging the pegs and not-so-good case assortments for waves 3 and 4 results in a tough retail situation as far as finding these new figures.

Just found out my wave 4 case is already at ups in shrewsbury even though delivery isn't set for Wednesday(list as early from original thursday). Now just need to see if I can just pick it up on lunch tomorrow versus missing the delivery. Hell, it'd save them gas and time.

You know anywhere with a good price for the sets? BBTS would be $114 plus shipping for them. At that price I think I'd still be better off with a case of wave 4 as long as I could get Storm Shadow for less than $29.

Homer did you check the collectors club's store? They sell the waves when they come out. Smalljoes would have them but their prices are usually the same as BBTS. I haven't used them, but a lot of people are buying from Kokomo toys.

Kokomo and smalljoes both seem to be sold out of the cases. BBTS raised thier price of Wave 4 5-figure case by $10. Not sure if the price of the full 12 figure case was increased.

I was looking for SS on ebay for you. Not many up there. They are all around the $24 range, all are carded. There was one guy who had a make an offer option, but not sure you'd get it for under $20.

I figured it was worth it since I actually wanted everything in the case except maybe the SB. And at $5.88 a figure after tax I couldn't pass it up. Hopefully either I'll find SS myself or one of the people I regularly buy from/trade with will find him for me.

Yeah, it went really fast. Right after I got my order confirmation I posted about it here and in the MU thread. Somebody in there tried to order then and they were already gone. I'm guessing the few that were on there were ones from when they put the case up last week and for one reason or another some payments wouldn't go through so the orders were cancelled and those cases went back up. On the off chance they show up again the code is fnf20fs. It gives you 20% off your order. I think its a one time use code.

I'm too cheap to pay that much for a regular release figure. I limited myself to $20 max when I was trying to get the mail away Doc and then the translucent Wraith and eventually I got them both that cheap. If I can't get Storm Shadow at retail or from somebody in the MU thread for cost plus shipping I'll try to eventually find somebody selling a loose one somewhere for a more reasonable price.

Storm Shadow is on his way to me. I gave in and paid $15 for him. I was hoping to get him at retail, but it was worth it just to be done with all four waves of 30th. So in the end I paid $85 for all of wave 3 and 4 with an extra Zombie Viper.

I don't think there will be any other revision cases. There is only 30th revision case so far. The wave 4 case is sort of like a revision case, too. It has all of wave 3 minus SS and only 1 of each wave 4 except with an additional ZV. I'll be shocked if we see a revision case for 3 and 4. What would the breakdown be when the wave 4 case is built like a revision case to begin with? If the wave 4 case were mostly wave 4 figures, then the case we got would make for a decent revision case.

I had been planning to limit myself to $10 for him, but the combination of him being the last figure I needed and my recent surgery keeping me from hunting was enough to make me do it. I figure considering the deal I got on the wave 4 case means in the end I still only paid about $6.50 a figure including tax and shipping.

A little more purple in the comic pack, I'll post a pic tomorrow showing the difference. Only single pack comes with the infinity gauntlet for Thanos though. 2 pack has one for Warlock. He's a great fig. Gambit looks good but that jacket is tough to work around. Both are must haves, lucky to find this.

Stopped by Sturbridge WM around 10pm(where I found Wave 3 early in the month) hoping they got more. Well, kinda... after sifting through what was off the pegs, there was a full case or 3 of waves 1 & 2 and what I'm thinking was the same Ripcord I left 2+ weeks ago. The difference was this time I found 4 Vipers and 3 or 4 Troopers scattered through the action figures aisle.

I like the new one MUCH more. More pop, Thanos looks more sinister with the purple thand blue. I think there is more of a gloss to the purple one also. The face is different also, facial expression is more teeth and menacing than the single version.

There is also some gold band across the waist present, the old one looks more plain. And this fig was one of my favorites from the MU line.Darker purple coloring to the face and red eyes also.

That would be utterly ridiculous and they would never sell out, no matter how "cool" the figure is. (I know you weren't being totally serious, but I just want to explain why this wouldn't work):

I know the figure looks great, has lots of cool accessories, etc, but the ONLY reason everyone is currently drooling over this Storm Shadow is that he is shortstacked (basically one per case), not included in the new revision case, and therefore "hard to find". Storm Shadow is an individual character, not a trooper or a soldier, and it wouldn't really make sense to put more than 2 per case maximum. Once everyone got their 1 or 2 figures, that would probably be it for buyers, unlike a techno viper or a shock trooper for example, which some people might buy 20 or 30 of (this is why the 30th wave 1 assortment worked so well- it was basically all troopers except for stalker). Look at POC wave 3 missile pack duke and arctic SS, those were 3 per case and I STILL see them swinging behind the wave 2 renegades junk in almost every TRU I go into.

Some argue that people would be buying tons of these SS figures if they were more plentiful to make "custom ninjas" (...?), but I think that's just wishful thinking. Again, I'm not saying they wouldn't sell well in the beginning, but like any individual character they'd probably wind up pegwarming eventually.

Yeah, saw only one SE in the wild. And never saw the Jungle BAT wave, was into getting everything online then thank god. That's the thing that worries me about the new stuff; are they going to be like that POC wave 4 and 5 and have very rare distribution or come aplenty eventually?

I only saw 1 Snake Eyes at providence wal-mart. I bought that one.
Then I saw a bunch at warwick toysRus, at least 12. I think I picked up a few for friends.
I don't think I ever saw him at any Target, even though he did appear there.
Never saw any at Benny's, but I don't know if they even carried that wave.
Then I saw and bought another at a Walgreens.

I remember I bought the one at Walgreens because unlike all the others I ever came across, the grey knee pads on this particular figure have a flat/non-glossy finish to them, whereas the regular figure has kinda glossy painted grey knee-pads.

I only saw Blowtorch, Hawk, and Cobra Commander from wave 5, and only at 2 different Benny's. Never saw the troops anywhere, hence my Signature down below. :P

Then if/whenever the new stuff finally hits retail, we will already have it from buying online. Now, by having no need to buy these figures(again), we are creating even more shelfwarmers and harming the retail performance of the line, which then causes retailers to see and say "hmm...these Joes aren't selling well" and decide to drop the line which then forces the line into another online-only product (or worse...), and has us once again buying Joes only online. Vicious a cycle it could become. Mmh.

Nope, looking for that myself. Stores here keep restocking comic packs but it's with those damn revision cases, over and over. Haven't seen that wave, looking for that 2 pack also, but if I ever see 2 I'll grab an extra. 2 pack was at Newbury comics, they'rer a different entity with what they stock comapred to Target/Walmart, they function to different stock plan. I checked E-bay and the only one up the day I bought mine was some dude in Malaysia. Which is a shocker because I feel here in the NorhtEast distribution hits us last. We never get things new, they always hit the West coast first.

Yeah, that's dead on, a vicious cycle. There's much more to things between the lines, it's not just Hasbro's choice to pick and choose figs for wave selection but they are bound by contract to release "recognizable" figs in each line. Yes Arctic Destro is a bad idea and clogs waves, but Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Duke, ect....
There are contract stuipulations that Hasbro must include certain figs or large retailers won't carry the waves/brand in large quantities. Why are the Dreadnocks online only? They won't sell to the massese but this above is especailly why. There's alot to the business that the general public doesn't know about why it gets rounded out with usually "Hasblow's fault". Not the case at all.

I would prefer to support local business and love the thrill of the hunt, it's the best part of this hobby, not knowing what you are going to walk into when you hit the Joe isle, hoping to see a fresh peg of Joes. But with your above statement that rarely happens nowadays, the 25th seemed to move more easily, they always sold out at my Target's. Except for that damn Buzzer, he was Arctic Destro back in the day, and I only have one carded and don't have one open to put with my Dreadnock set......and they're not cheap on E-bay either.

On that note today I went and cleared out the Renegades at my local Target and dropped by Toys for Tots drop off by my house and donated all of them. I have't bought one for myslef, not my thing but the damn things are clogging the pegs and I can't take it anymore. I want to see wave 3 and 4! So stay the hell away from my Target :0

I had one sighting of wave 3 when Target put out the endcap display just before Christmas last year. That was the last time I saw new stock. I'm still trying to get a Jungle BAT.

I highly doubt it. As with ROC, POC has a bunch on unseen/barely released product:

We barely saw waves 4, 5, or 6 (and for many, wave 3).
We still haven't seen the mini-hiss or the armor bike here in the US.
We still haven't seen python patrol croc master or camo blowtorch.
We don't know if the minotaur mech or the mech with alpine will actually show up (ROSS?) even though they were deemed "cancelled", final release versions did get out there.
We barely saw both HISS Tanks, the VAMP, and the Fury at retail.

So yeah, there's a bunch of stuff that just didn't show up on shelves.

I've only spotted 2 Crimson Hiss tanks thus far, and both were in Attleboro a few weeks ago (one at Walmart and one at TRU). I've already opened and set up both but I will be on the lookout for another one in my travels to the Natick area tonight. Probably will be tough though with all the Christmas shoppers out there. I'll let you know what I find. Which figures from your wave 3/4 case did you not want? Let me know either here or through a PM. Thanks!

Hey Eurolock, I scoured the Natick/Framingham area last night looking for a CHT for you but unfortunately came up empty. Nothing at TRU, Target, Walmart (or, "the Framingham asylum" as I like to call it) or anywhere else I stopped at. Maybe better luck after Christmas.

Not much luck earlier going from MA to RI. Had to cross off a number of stops due to traffic and a crappy gps. All I found was a lonely wave 4 Sci-Fi at Whitinsville WM. Guess someone else cleaned out the rest(so want just 1 more ZV).They did have PoC CC, Duke and Blowtorch oddly. Other than that, every other WM I checked only had Steel Brigade(newer variant), Renegages CC, SE and Firefly. Kinda sad really.

These stores, and Hasbro need to do a lil more research and realize that even though it's SE or CC (or hell, even Destro) and they throw in 2-3 times of them versus other figs, they're only going to end up warming pegs. Like was implied recently, that'll only hurt newer/more desired figs being released en masse(how many of us have seen a Zombie Viper or Techno Viper in the wild?).

Unless/until they put out a truly different and exceptionally unique version of any of those that will make collector and casual fan alike want to buy every one up or just simply include 1 or 2 of every fig per case(change case count?), they're waisting their time/money/resources pumping these things out the way they are IMHO. I mean, how often over the years have you seen various Bumblebee's clogging shelves and pegs at any given point? I get it, he's an immensely popular character, but at least put in a lil effort to see that there is such thing as too much of a good thing and when that happens, the remains are often spoils.

And don't get me started on how annoying it is that even though these newer guys only seem to appear at WMs, they're not labeled as exclusives and haven't been seen at say Targets or Bennys. Just my 2 cents from what I know of marketing and product research.

Ross already started to get the Resolute sets and the POC exclusive singles, so I wonder what the other discounters will get in the coming months.

Its hard to imagine that these would have been produced in such strikingly low quantities - so it would appear likely that there is a stockpile somewhere waiting to be off-loaded. (Hopefully at TJ Maxx).

BUT, if that is the case...then why haven't Hasbro tried to sell them via Hasbrotoyshop.com?

I think Waves 3 & 4 will be found, just not in any great numbers. They seem to be hitting other parts of the North East. I've checked out the NJ and Penn Sightings threads to see if the Resolute set were showing up at their Ross stores and it seems certain area have Wave 3 hitting pretty hard. People are grabbing multiples of Cobra Troopers and Techno Vipers and leaving the other Reneagdes. I think we'll see a decent amount of Wave 3 & 4 once Target and TRU ge tthem in. They won't be anywhere close to plentiful as the first set of Renegedes has been.

Still, with that revision case combining 3 & 4, Renegades Storm Shadow will be hard to find, I think.

I won't completely disagree with you here- your claim has merit but only partially. While the lack of product on mainline retailer's shelves can and in the past has sometimes resulted in said product winding up at discount retailers, it is never wise to anticipate or rely on the arrival of product to discount retailers. I love paying $3-$4 per figure as much as the next guy, but as FastDraw correctly mentioned a few days ago, seeing huge dumps of joes at places like TJMaxx, Marshall's or Ross is ultimately a bad thing for the line.

Unfortunately, wishful thinking usually only winds up in disappointment while dedication to the product and buying what you need when you see it is always a sure way to not regret a purchase.

And also, if you recall correctly, the "MASSIVE influx of 25th & ROC" that showed up at TJX stores around here was hardly rare or unreleased at all. Most of it For the 25th was the single carded 5-pack figure wave and a few later lukewarm waves like the arctic snake eyes wave. Pretty much all of that ROC garbage was common as well, with the exception being that late Kamakura wave (I did grab a few of those figures when I saw them). Don't count on seeing too much of POC. It was manufactured in far less quantities than ROC and most of it sold out in stores. Yes, I know that the TRU exclusives have popped up at Ross but it appears to be just those. But who knows, I'd like to know what happened to all the POC wave 5 & 6 as well. Luckily I did get mine at Walmart, Benny's and Target when they came out, but there definitely weren't many released.

I'm not one who wants the items to go directly to the discounters, but if that's where they will show up for sale then so be it. Believe me, if I could find them at the regular retailers then I sure would buy them there, rather than play the waiting game.

I got a new MP3 player. First thing I did was synch it to the list of all the CDs I own that I'd uploaded on to my computer and found that I have 1544 songs combined from all the CDs. Also a Nook Tablet that just kicks the ass of the ereader I got last year. A bunch of small things like a Cylon Centurian Hallmark Christmas ornament and the next volume of the Walking Dead comic that I needed. Also $200 to buy games and DVDs and other stuff since my mother didn't want to guess on which titles I need and/or would want.

Guys, check your Walmarts. The Walmart closest to my house has Saga Legends and Clone Wars figures on clearance for $3.40 and $3.90 respectively. Vintage was full price. I'm guessing with the end of the Legends line, my Walmart has decided to move the discontinued stuff. I grabbed 2 Death Star Troopers and a Snowtrooper.

Interestingly, the Thor and Green Lantern deluxe sets were clearanced for $6.40 and the single GL figures for $3.40 (as were Ben10 but who collects those). However the IM2 figures have been collecting dust on at least 6 pegs for ages and they're still full price.

Nothing for Joes. Even the TF section has been stripped nearly clean.

Only complaint is that these new guys are 4'inch figs, not 3 3/4. The size difference is noticiable when taking figure sizes to scale. Awesome wave though. Sci-Fi has these goofy things on his ankles that remind me of that cords that break off all Wraith figs. Took me 20 minutes to get the damn scope to stay on low Light's gun. And it didn't show up in the picture.

Yeah haha I'm one step ahead of ya! I had a bunch of old renegades that I'd bought on clearance a month or 2 ago and returned those to get all my money back so it worked out. The product numbers are universal so any 30th figure is acceptable.

Sturbridge WM didn't have anything new, but all Joes were marked down to $5. Oddly enough, the red sticker on each peg had Airtight on it.

Also, all TF Generations were marked down to $9.

Haha I am cheap man. Especially as I just bought my house last June... I am trying to rebuild my "nest egg" that I spend on down payment/inspection/closingcost etc lol. That is half the reason I am trying to sell off most of my collections.

I did buy 2 Zombie-Vipers so I can open one without concern, and why I want 2 more renegade troopers. 1 sealed 2 open cuz I think they look incredible haha

Pretty much every figure in wave 3 & 4 is phenomenal, I have everybody here in front of me and I can't find anyone that I wasn't pleased with. If any of these guys end up pegwarming (when and if they EVER see main retail release), it'll be the fans' fault, not hasbro's. Nothing but winners here boys!

Mixed nuts. All my transformers are opened and displayed, same with 90% of my Marvel Universe. There are some I have yet to open. All my Matty Collector stuff is MOC, as well as my 25th Matt Trakker and every 30th GI Joe that I bought except my Hazard and 1 Zombie viper.

Finally got all of the Rise of Cobra Wave 3 of the Alpha vehicles (Lava Pod w/ Volcano Viper etc.) on ebay for cheap. I guess I have ROSS to thank for the price dropping on this wave.

Update: Just checked the UPS tracking info and they arrived at my hometown UPS office at 9:56 tonight (Thursday), so I'll DEFINITELY have them tomorrow.

I got my order confirmation real early, I preordered almost as soon as they went up, but I couldn't ship it until I made sure I intercepted some other things that were coming. Too many boxes at once is bad for my health.

BEAM was awesome and got me an entire case of wave 4 at his Walmart (minus the steel brigade). That same night, I got an additional 2 Techno Vipers, a second renegades trooper, second Tunnel Rat and a second Ripcord at Attleboro Toy Vault with my friend's discount.

Fesifisky hooked me up with a second Scarlett, and second Sci-Fi.

ShadowNinja split a huge case of Techno-Vipers with me from Kokomo Toys, so I got 8 of them from there.

Went back to Attleboro Toy Vault at my friend's alert that wave 4 had arrived. Got 2 more Zombies, a second Airtight, second Law&Order, second Lifeline and my 12th Techno Viper.

Stopped at several more Walgreens all over MA over the course of a few weeks, found 3 more Zombies, a third Airtight (I need 5 total), and a third Scarlett. I left a tunnel rat and another Scarlett behind.

Ordered 8 more renegades troopers from BBTS during their clearance sale for $6 each. Brings their total to 11.

Ordered 2 Storm Shadows from eBay at $23 each. Not much choice at that point, but those figures were worth the money!

Tonight, ShadowNinja came through again and got me my fourth Airtight and my third Sci-Fi.

I feel like there's only so much left for Hasbro to re-release that I really "Want", and the 'Noks and Slaughter's 3 Guys are some of the last parts to round out a ME/Vintage collection. To me that's worth a set of open and closed, and since I have at least 1 of everything MOC/MIB, these along with the Wave 4 are must haves. I don't have more than 3 of any army builders, except for 8 bats, but other than that my open collection all fits in my bottom drawer. Which, after I open these up, is going to be a problem.....

I admire the dedication all you guys have for the hunt. I just can't do it anymore. The fact that I have no stores on my route from home to work is a factor. I've mailed it in. I just hit the button as soon as the preorder story hits the front page.
I think I enjoy the having more then the hunting. I'm a lazy lazy man. ha.

AAirtight, where do you keep all this stuff? How much space to do you have?

Originally, while I was living at home and during the 25th line, I made it a rule to get at least 2 of every single-carded figure (one sealed and at least one to open, unless they're a troop builder), and I still adhere to that rule today. At the time, I had neither the space or the money to buy doubles of figure multipacks or vehicles, so I mostly have one of each of those for the 25th line. Every time I'd buy a new figure, I'd open it, pose and play with it for a little while, and then immediately seal it and all of its accessories in a small plastic bag and put it away into a plastic storage box. I realized that I was not enjoying my collection to its fullest and vowed that as soon as I had the space, I would make a decent display.

When I moved last February, I found myself with 3x the room that I originally had, and decided that half my room would be designated as living quarters and the other half would be for my joes. I set up wall shelving, stadium-style platforms on each shelf, and table space for what I thought would hold all of my stuff... I was wrong, it turns out that I was only able to set up about 1/3 of my figures and practically any of my vehicles! I guess all those years of troop building started to accumulate and I had amassed quite a few joes, In addition to my favorite 25th figures from my complete collection, complete POC collection, complete 30th collection and my customs, I was able to display my Flagg (with 5 SkyStrikers on board), Terrordrome, a few HISS tanks, some Vamps, and several planes/choppers suspended from the ceiling. The figures that wouldn't fit are still stored in boxes under the large table with the Terrordrome and vehicles on it.

Another great thing about where my joes are all stored is having my customs workshop right next to it. It's great having all the different figure sculpts for design and color reference all within arm's reach as I create figures to fill in the holes of my collection.

Also, luckily for me, I have a fiancé that appreciates and enjoys my hobby and has already suggested that I make custom GIJOE cake toppers for our wedding cakes (this girl's a keeper). She's also talked about designating a spare room in our eventual new place to display my collection. We're both designers and very crafty/creative so we want to have a studio room, and I think the joes will probably wind up all over the walls of that room.

I'd advise anyone with the space and the time to display as much f their collection as possible, it really helps you appreciate and respect the volume of what you've amassed and earned over the years and it sort of sobering and humbling if you're like me and always feel the need to buy more!

Not sure what I'll be getting from the movie line, if Hasbro is clever this time like they were a little bit last time and place little bits and pieces of classic figure representations in the movie line (Heavy Metal, Thunder, Motor Viper) or even new sculpts that can be used for customs, I'll probably be picking some of them up.

Found 2 more Zombie Vipers, a Scarlett and a Tunnel Rat today at one of the Salem, MA, Walgreens. Picked up the ZVs and left the others. It works out because I only have 2 unwanted figures left that to return, so I'll be able to get my damn $23 back for these guys.

Luckily between $10 in TrU dollars and returning a spare Hazard Viper to a WG, didn't cost me a penny for those 2 figs.

I did see that new SW: Phantom Menace wave show up at my Dedham TRU on friday night though. Also hit 6 more Walgreens up here on the North shore last night, found another Sci-Fi and Airtight and left a Tunnel Rat & Scarlett behind.

Also, that barber shop is pretty ridiculous/awesome. Surprised Hasbro hasn't shut them down yet!

While grocery shopping at the Price Chopper near me, they had a number of 25th Comic packs. They had tons of dust on them so I'm guessing they were somewhere in the back for some time. Here's what I recall:
Iron Grenadier/Cobra Viper, Snake Eyes/Hard Master, Destro/Iron Grenadier, Duke/Red Star, Beachhead/Dataframe(isn't is Mainframe?), and at least 2 of Scrap Iron/Wild Bill.

Also checked out Walgreens in Clinton and Shrewsbury earlier. Nothing at the latter, but finally found a White coat RoC Doctor in Clinton. Ended up only costing around $5 or $6 after other provisions.

Agreed on the AV, but I've had 1 open and 1 sealed for awhile, so I can kinda see not picking it up for almost double the usual/original price.

Was out in Bellingham earlier today, the WM didn't have even pegs for joes, though did have a Black Dragon for $13 which I skipped on. Looks like they're about to do a major reset....bunch of stuff on clearance, nothing really notable, but did scrore a Thundercats Thundertank for $15 and a 4" tigra for $3.50. They had plenty of both as of around 5:30 pm split between the regular toy and clearance sections.

And on the way back home, happened to check one of the Walgreens in Marlboro and finally found a 2nd Air-tight so I can open one.

Just got back from the Lowell area(getting TF Prime figs). Nothing noteworthy, the WM out there, tewksbury I think, sucked royally, I doubt I'll go back to that one.

Did end up grabbing a RoC nano viper at a Walgreens out there. I thought I read it either wasn't release en masse or ended up at Ross stores? Either way between him and the white coat Doctor I found Sat, I finally have every single RoC fig I've wanted.

Speaking of customs, did you guys see the new 2012 Avengers Heli-carrier? Pretty ugly looking, but the longer I look at it the more curious I am to see how it works and how I might be able to customize it into a cobra battle platform/helicarrier of some sort with a little paint and some new labels. It's supposed to be 3 feet long and possibly in the $50-$100 range, although I would obviously just wait for it to go on clearance. (Bought a ROC Pit playset at TRU for about $17 after Christmas of 2010 to use for parts).

Went up to Rockport and Gloucester this weekend with the fiancé. Stopped into Walgreens in Gloucester and found another zombie, a lifeline and a tunnel rat. Left TR behind and picked up the other 2, turns out Lifeline is missing his chest syringe holster , it's just not there (he's still sealed), I checked to see if it fell out and was loose in the package but it's missing. Anyone else had issues with their Lifeline figures? I had read a while ago that others have been finding ones missing the defibrillator pads and other random accessories.

Went to good old reliable Target in Easton last night (bought almost all of my 25th collection there from 2007-2009 while working nearby at the time), they had just got a new case in. Bought the Techno-Viper, both Zombie-Vipers, Law, Lifeline, Airtight and Renegades Trooper. I called before I got there and was told that they had a Sci-Fi too, but when I got there 45 minutes later he was the only one missing, haha. I didn't want him anyway but wonder who snagged him?

Anyway, start hitting your Targets if you haven't already. I think this concludes my Wave 3 & 4 buying until some of the movie stuff hits later.

Also, just thought I'd add that the figures did not scan/weren't in the system, so they needed to manually enter the price.

On a separate note, are any of you guys able to, or know someone, who could give me a ballpark quote on a comic book collection? I need to get rid of a large part on mine and I want to have a decent figure when I approach a shop with the list.

Yup. Most places did- the only retail locations I ever heard of that first renegades wave (3) hitting were Walmarts (right around Christmas) and comic shops/specialty stores. Most everyone else got in that wave 3/4 revision case that was missing SS, it arrived hot on the heels of wave 3.

Sounds like a good head to use! Star wars heads have surprisingly come in handy for custom joes in my experience. I hate that too when I get some new parts and Hasbro decides to release that figure later before I can even get started. I do love it though when my custom occasionally looks better than their official release!
