I'm interested in getting the Sideshow Duke. Initially it had a release date of 1st Quarter 2010. Now that it's April, it is moved to 2nd Quarter 2010. Does anyone know of a precise release date?

precise no , sideshow did say the figure's production was delayed due to chinese new year .. what ever that means :) but april is a round about time frame

I sure hope its April. I never planned on getting Duke at first, but after a friend sold me his Snake Eyes, and after watching all these Shout Factory DVD releases of the 80's animated series again, I need to have Duke and Snake Eyes side by side now.

I'd like to get the exclusive Duke too as the binoculars accessory was part of the original 3 3/4" ARAH figure. I see preorder auctions on eBay for the SS exclusive Duke, but they want at least $200 for it. I don't think I can get myself to pay over $80-100 extra for those binocs.

If it doesn't convert I will pay the extra $80-$100 bones for the binocs. I'm sick with it...lol

You could just order binoculars from a 1:6 scale online store... they won't be the same, but you'll save $70-$90... just sayin.

You'll see more buzz when he drops. Unfortunately, there isn't much to talk about between the periods where he's available for sale, sold out, and then finally shipping.

I'm not a Duke fan, but he looks great. He's got a great pissed off expression and the rendition of his uniform is better than I could have imagine. The helmet is what brings it all together. Definitely sold on him.

A LOT of people have said they're planning to do the same thing about Flint's sawed-off shotgun. It's really not a bad way to go - you can get a more realistic accessory and it's way less expensive.

Anyhow, I'm hoping I can swap out a Hot Toys body with Duke. I never liked the stock prometheus bodies that Sideshow uses.

I believe the one that is currently shown in SS's website is the one we'll be getting. The one that is displayed at the con is the prototype.

Black Rose - They changed everything, including the backpack.

mrclean08 - Yeah, Hottoys body fits. They share the same headjoints too. But you need to mod the feets inorder to fit in the sideshow feets. I got my SE and SS body changed too.

Mine has been shipped...so I should receive it soon. I'm hoping the head sculp looks better in person. I'm also hoping Firefly looks like he did in the recent pictures we saw of him, and Sideshow doesn't change anything. I was really digging that first Duke head we where shown. I'm wondering if this means that Flint will have a different head? Personally I like the older more battle hardened look Sideshow was giving the Joe's.

Black Rose, i'm with you on all those ideas. only thing is I am starting to see the trend where Sideshow puts out an amazing picture, then the actual release is sub-par and not as good looking as the photo they use for us consumers to drool over and then pre-order and make them tons of money. almost a bait-n-switch tactic, and that's not cool.

Which makes me wish they at least released the original heads for sale or imcluded multiple versions ala Beachhead, ala Firefly.

I don't think that's it. I think it's a case, like with Firefly, of all the whiners complaining about how they aren't just big versions of the ARAH Joes. This is a bad sign to me. While I wasn't really sold on the Flint sculpt, though to be fair, I was never a huge Flint fan anyhow, I like how Sideshow was updating and taking their joes to a new level of realism. While it's cool that Sideshow listens to their fans, I think it sucks that all the whining might be compromising their vision. I like both Duke heads, though the first was MUCH better. A Top Seargent like Duke should have a grimmaced miserable look on his face. you don't get to where he is without being able to be a bit of an SOB when the situation warrants.

I like the place Sideshow was going with their line. I hope they don't lose their way.

Trooper13, I agree 100% with everything you said. but, I do like the original head sculpts and wish they would release them much closer to the prototypes. ever since Snake-Eyes, the initial photo is much better than the final version. did you notice that the complaints caused them (starting wit Beachhead) they put a caption "prototype pending approval" ??
I also like the line a lot, own every single figure and throne, and hope it continues, just hope they put in a bit more effort to rival Hot Toys and Medicom.

I didn't notice that. It's sad. I really think they were on the right track with the overall look and sculpts. Personally I like the Pro body, though there are definite drawbacks. My CC's knees are a little loose, but nowhere near as bad as some describe. I think the first problem I've seen as far as looks of the body go are how thin SE is, though I never really imagined him as buff tbh, and Duke's forearms.

With SE, if they do a Commando version i think the original body would be fine if they used an actual black military sweater. He'd look just right then i think. As far as Duke's arms go, I don't know. That's probably my only sticking point with him. I wouldn't have ever changed the headsculpt if I was them. I really wish they had included it as a second head like they are going to do with FF. I like the grittier more realistic looks. I don't want big ARAH figures, Hasbro did those, this line was, to me, where Joe needed to go to really keep me interested. It was nice to be able to have Joes that were on the level an adult collector should look for, IMO.

well said. I agree with the SE having pretty much no upper body (deltoids kinda droopy) and Duke's forearms being a bit thin. I think Sideshow reads our feedback and does take it all into consideration (ie. Firefly). I just hope Zartan and Dusty rock when they drop!

Dusty should be amazing, and fit right in with all the other 1/6th stuff out there. Since we're so active in the desert theatres now there's no shortage of gear to pick from. I think they're really gonna pull out all the stops for Zartan. Should be insane. There's just sooo many Joes they could do killer jobs on. I can't wait to see what's next, and I'm already behind. lol

Got my Duke. He is absolutely fantastic. Super impressed. The one thing is the hair. Its cool but wish they could have done a little more shading... but everything else is so good, I cant even tell you.

The gun is the coolest... the sights all move, you can add an additional grip or a grenade launcher to the gun.the regular grip is adjustable as well. Its almost too much awesome.

Its just awesome. I am thinking about getting a green vest to have a really simple resolute custom...maybe. He is also taller than Snakeeyes which is great.

Can't wait for Flint!!

That is a great photo! I'd love to get some political 1:6th figures for when I get my Cobra Sniper. I can see TONS of potential for my Cobras to take out, or kidnap politicos, giving the Joes a real headache. I love your collection man, keep it coming. I'm just not a fan of the prometheus body that Sideshow uses for all 1/6 Joe figures. That body under clothing looks like those awful 21st Century Toys 12" figures from the mid 90's. Every 1/6 Joe so far requires a Hot Toys body upgrade IMHO.

I used Velcro...hope I spelled that right. Anyway, I'm surprised Sideshow didn't go this route as much as they love Velcro. Just attach one side to the back of the helmet & the other to the inside of the strap. Works like a charm.

The production marketing pics of Duke shows him with the right size of baggy fatigues. In Black Rose's pictures above, they look a little tight fitting. Also, his head looks a little too big for his body. Can anyone confirm this.

The flag looks good to me. The hs on Duke looks perfect on mine. The pants look to tight, if you have them pulled up, I just tugged mine down a bit, and they give the baggy effect you want to see.

I'll have to try pulling the pants down some, I think the head looking to big is due to the design/way the shirts fit. Plus the helmet might be giving him the mellon look. Thanks for the feedback on the flag GIJOHN.
