View Full Version : G.I. Joe - Transfomers cross-over... What would you want out of this?

I just read the new Hasbro Q & A thread for 2008 and many peolple are requesting information about a possible G.I. Joe - Transformers cross-over.
I'm curious about the thoughts of what members would want or expect out of this line if it ever did exist.
All of the other Transformer cross-over lines, such as Star Wars and Marvel, are actual characters transforming into vehicles. For Star Wars this works a bit because we are familiar with both the characters and vehicles they chose. In some ways they remind me of Spaceball-1 transforming into Mega Maid. Well that's what they look like to me anyways. As far as the Marvel line goes I see no point in it.
If this line was made into a G.I. Joe line, would you like to see a Skystriker transforming into Ace, or a Rattler transforming into Wild Weasel? Or would you like to see a G.I. Joe vs. Transformers line where the figures were in the correct aspect to one another. I can see the Joe figures being smaller than the little 2.5 inch Sigma-6 line to compensate the Transformers robots from not being humongous.
If you were to do a cross-over line like the Star Wars line, what would you have major characters that are not vehicle drivers transforming into?
I don't know about you, but as from a collectors standpoint, I don't see the point in a new line like that. It might attract kids, and that's all good for Hasbro, but it's not going to make me "donate" any more money to them. I collect Star Wars and Transformers as well, but have never purchased one of the transforming Star Wars toys.
If I'm going to spend any more money on a new line of G.I. Joe, I rather see an 8 inch Unleashed line. I love the "statue" like look of the Star Wars line, so I think the Joes would look great as well. I would love to own a Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow Unleashed.
Please let me know your thoughts.
A G.I. Joe Unleashed line?
I LIKE!!!!

NO NO NO please no unleashed. I really wouldn't mind seeing the crossover, BUT they need to leave each figure the same. Transformers must transform & be in correct scale to the Joes. Joes must be in 3 inch scale & be super poasable.
Honestly I could see them even do a movie cross over (2009)
I am invinsioning the packaging for the 2-packs....You get one Joe & One Transformer.

It'd be more affordable to do a line where the Joe figures are smaller.
I'd love a Star Wars Transformers line done with Joe Vehicles.
Then you can have a Cobra Rattler that turns into Thundercracker, a Night Raven that turns to Skywarp; Skystriker that turns into Jetfire, a Mauler that turns into Warpath. A VAMP that turns into Hound.
Firebat = Starscream
Stinger = Ravage
Ferret = Frenzy
RAM Cycle = Cliffjumper
Wolverine = Ironhide
Triple T = Ratchet
Mamba = Soundwave
Mean Dog = Optimus
HISS = Megatron ;D
Just thinking quickly and off the top of my head; I'm sure Optimus and Megs could be more bad@$$ vehicles

It'd be more affordable to do a line where the Joe figures are to the scale of the figures in the little unleashed multipacks, or smaller.

Ok that makes way more sense for a cross-over line than having vehicles such as the Rattler transform into Wild Weasel, which I'm sure would be Hasbro's idea seeing what they do with Star Wars and Marvel Transformers.
I like your idea way better, but if Hasbro were to do this, I'm sure the vehicles would be the same scale as the Star Wars Transformers making the G.I. Joe scale the same size as those little Star Wars figures that come with the Star Wars Transformers.
Toy companies always think of cost, so I doubt that we ever see the scale we would want for both figures.

That would be great. I would have to buy some of those...

Definitely would buy these, just to see how many trademark names Hasbro would put on one package:
THUNDERCRACKER
includes RATTLER pilot WILD WEASEL
and then have a tech spec & file card on the back LOL
This thread's got me thinking. I know in the comics that Ironhide and Ratchet have appeared as HISS Tanks, but I never bought that comic series past the first issue.
more ideas:
Defiant = Omega Supreme [rockets!]
WHALE = Seaspray
Silver Mirage = Bumblebee
AWE Striker = Mirage
Conquest = Jazz
ASP = Rumble
CLAW = Laserbeak
Stellar Stilleto = Thrust
I love the idea of the transformers from joe vhiecles to tf characters thats an amazing idea. and makes a ton more sense then from vhelicel to character, those piss me off to no end.
And hell yeah to unleashed, just think of how cool those would look :)

I find it absolutely mind bending that Hasbro cranks out the terrible Star Wars Transformers and the upcoming equally if not more terrible Marvel crossover Transformers and leaves Joe/TF on the table (even as a small subline branded primarily under Transformers.)
I just want the Don Figurao designs made.
Rolling Thunder Prime:

Destro's Dominator Megatron:

but you GOT to do the Joes as mini-figures, it would just be ridiculously cost-prohibitive to do it at the 3-3/4inch scale.
The little Sigma 6 guys seem like a reasonable scale.

Do the little joe figures in the same scale as the little figs in the TF Movie scenes pack. And when the GiJoe/TF Cross over runs out of steam , Glue the little Joe figs to little bases and make a Joe themed game like Heroclix. Does Hasbro own Whizkids anyway?

I want to see a 1:18 scale Optimus prime that turns into a red HISS...

The problem as I see it would be cost, as well as demand. First they would never be able to mass produce the Joes and TF's the way they do now with the lines seperate and in their own scale. This would be the major reason why they dont do it. Secondly, and this is nothing to do with Hasbro as its all about cost and profitability for them. We as collectors would then have to fight tooth and nail to a, find them, b, purchase them off scalpers, and c, contend with transformer fans who arent joe collectors as they too would be almost guarenteed to buy them as well. Right now most transformers are just repaints from older lines and slapped with new labels, very rarely do they get new molds, at least we get different faces from time to time with the joes lol. So basically itd be all new molds for both joes and figures.
Finally, thered be an issue with scale as the joes would almost definitely be smaller, while the transformers would probably be bigger, thus alienating it from other lines creating a reuse of the molds issue for hasbro (which they currently do with basically all their lines, the guns for spider man and iron man both come from the nerf line)
as much as id love to see it happen, as i collect both joes AND transformers I just dont want to have to pay upwards of $50, and considerign the figures may be equal to or larger then the $50 figures, we'd probably be paying minimum of 100 a fig from scalpers unless we got lucky.
edit: also i forgot to mention hasbro has backwards thinking on tf scale as it is... a corvette is just as long as a fighter jet? and a 40' tall robot turns into a gun that a human can use? *sigh* itd give us all headaches in the end, honestly.
if we got these things in scale, some tf's would be 2" bigger then the joes (ie the ones which are motorcycles) and some would be 12" bigger then the joes (ie the jets)

you know, a lot of your points could be leveled against Star Wars Transformers, but they've managed to make that work ~ and apparently successfully enough that they are keeping the line going with something like 8 new molds this year.
Right now most transformers are just repaints from older lines and slapped with new labels, very rarely do they get new molds, at least we get different faces from time to time with the joes lol. )
and this isn't really even close to true, unless you just mean that the Post-Movie / Pre-Animated/Classics2.0 lines they are using redecos and remolds to fill the gap.
even then, they expanded the movie line with a surprising number of molds based on vehicles from the films.

I echo the sentiments for having Transformers characters that become G.I. Joe vehicles.
Ideally, I'd be bad@$$ if they could fit 25th figures, but that's probably way more expensive than would be possible... T_T"
Snake Eyes-Joe Ninja

I would like a either two series- One, a series of 25th Anny style figures of the Joes and regular Tansformer figures based on the Dreamwave masterpiece. Yeah, they wouldn't be to scale, but they would be so awesome, I wouldn't care.
Or how about a series of Transformers that transform into GI Joe vehicles, like others have suggested, and make figures that fit of Joes. Like others have suggested. We could have things like the following-
Grimlock- Joe Patriot Grizzly, with Beachhead, Flint and Rock and Roll (Ultra class)
Optimus Prime- H.A.V.O.C., with Roller as the Recon Craft, with Duke, Hawk, and Gung Ho (Leader class)
Mirage- Snake Eye's ninja motorcycle, with Snake Eyes (Scout class)
Bumble Bee- GI Joe AWE Striker (maybe the Desert Coyote?), with Scarlett, Stalker and Clutch (Deluxe class)
Springer- Joe Night Attack Helicopter, with Wild Bill, Spirit and Hi-Tech (Leader class)
Jetfire- Skystriker, with Ace and Slipstream (Mega class)
Silverbolt- Stealth Bomber X-19, with Barrel Roll and Bombstrike (Ultra class)
Arcee- Joe Assault Quad with Lady Jaye (Scout class)
Ironhide- Wolverine Tank, with Covergirl and Grunt (Ultra class)
Jazz- Street Cat (urbanized Snow Cat), with Roablock and Shipwreck (DD style) (Deluxe Class)
Megatron- Strike HISS tank (looks a little more menacing), with Cobra Commander, Big Boa and 2 Crimson Guard (Leader class)
Astrotank (work with me)- Destro's Dominator, with Destro, 2 Iron Grenadiers and 4 Cobra Vipers (Supreme class)
Shockwave- APC Transport, with Scrap Iron, Major Bludd, 6 BATS (Leader Class)
Starscream- Night Raven, with Wild Weasel, Sky Creeper and Cobra Pilot (Ultra class)
Thundercracker- Rattler, with Baroness and Cobra Pilot (Mega class)
Frenzy- Storm Shadow's motorcycle, with Storm Shadow (Scout class)
Soundwave- Thundermachine, with deployable Rumble, Ravage and Lazerbeak as transforming Cobra Coil, Coil passenger pod and transforming missle, respectively, with Zartan, Torch, Ripper, Buzzer, Zarana and Monkeywrench (Leader class, but an Ultra size with 2 scouts)
Swindle- Venom Striker, with Firefly (Scout class)
Blackout- Crimson Command Copter, with Crimson Twins, Interrogator and 2 CGs (Ultra Calss)
Brawl- Hiss tank, with HISS Driver and 2 Alley Vipers (Ultra Class)
For the Joe figures, they could be about and inch tall.
Well, what do you all think?

Yes, Hasbro is missing out on a great opportunity here. Don't let them drop the ball on this. Hasbro need to look at the recent crossover comics and take their lead from those designs. They are fabulous. I don't think the size issue is a problem. just make them fit in with the other crossovers and include drivers like the transformers have.

If this line ever comes out I just hope that hasbro gets the great Don figureoa to do the designs. He is the transformer artist that did some of the dreamwave covers for the two joe/tf crossovers. He also designed this awesome optimus prime as the rolling thunder and megatron as destro's denominator. I have NEVER looked at those vehicles the same especially the denominator. I hate star wars/tf and marvel/tf stuff but g.i.joe/tf is a no-brainer....I have been waiting on this line since 1986:).
