Michigan G.I. Joe Sightings

Okay, so I mentioned this back in April or so. I'm curious to know who might be interested in a get together in the Walled Lake area (between Novi and Waterford)?

I am looking for a place to host a "custom" party. My church charges $70 (time, 4-5 hours, shouldn't be a problem). They charge to cover custodian/clean up/etc. I was also going to check in with our local hobby shop. It's small, but I thought they could benefit from a gathering of people who might want to have access to some model master acrylic paints. ;)

I figured I'd call the hobby shop tomorrow. If we went the church route, I figured I might ask for donations and/or hold a raffle for a few figures (found a lifeline and zombie viper the other day) to defray the costs.

So, thinking out loud. If we could nail down a date, would anyone be interested? I think it would be a lot of fun to work on customs, get to know fellow Tankers, and maybe even swap figures during a morning/afternoon/evening of fun. Even bring some food to pass. Thoughts?

But to answer your question, no. I found one set here in Michigan. I just tried ordering a set from a friendly manager on Saturday. I guess tomorrow is the moment of truth, but I doubt it. She scanned it and said first that it was a new item; then she followed that up by saying it was a discontinued item. She still said she'd try to order them, so we'll see.

My guess is that they are delayed until March, just like the other movie figs. Which is a bummer; I really wanted to land another set to raffle off at my custom party!

There is a little comic/toy store called Sweet Lou's in Millington. I have been there a few times over the last few years. I was always amazed by the old toys he had the times I had been there in the past.

Since I started collecting modern joes, I wanted to see what he had again. As far as current stuff, he had a few POC figures (Recondo, Dusty, arctic Destro, swivel kick Snake Eyes) a dozen or so 25th figures (I can't recall them all) and comic packs, some 25th vehicle sets, Some other early 2000s figs, and a lot of loose vintage stuff.

He also has a loose Flagg. Out of curiosity, I asked him the price. He said if someone were to come in with cash, he'd let it go for $575. He said it was complete except for one missing railing.

He checks ebay for prices, so I wouldn't expect amazing deals. His store is also becoming cluttered (to put it very kindly). It can be hard to move around. But if you are looking for vintage stuff, he has a lot, including Star Wars, He-Man, and the like. It almost feels like a museum looking at the vintage stuff he has.

Yeah, been there many a times. I just don't like the fact that he sells things at evilBay prices. Ummm, so sell it on eBay if you want to 'try' to get that price, not expect it from a store out in the middle of nowhere. Either way, he has an amazing amount of stuff, it is just that one can get it cheaper with patience and effort.

I went to TRU in Saginaw today and they didn't have anything good. Tons of Renegades Cobra Troopers and Firefly and CC. I did snag a set of DG figures in Freeland yesterday so those are starting to pop up again.

Dollar General on North Larch street in Lansing must have restocked their Joes... I scored a full set there about a month ago, yesterday there were 1 each of Shipwreck, Cobra Commander, Snake Eyes and Cobra Trooper. I bought the Trooper and Snake Eyes (natch), but if anybody's looking for the others, they're probably still there.

I'd recommend the Shipwreck, with the right accessories, he makes a fine POC City Strike Shippy... pic related (excuse the dust)

This store use to be my secret, i swear i mentioned it to one tanker and within a month all his stuff got bought out, i was actually kind of mad about it as i didnt know he was going to let everything go like that, lou always trys to charge top dollar no matter the condition of his stuff. Ive told him numerous times that if he is going to ask full price then he needs to clean his stuff up, he really doesnt understand the differance between mint and beat up, seems like no matter the condition, he wants whatever the highest ticket on ebay is.

He is a alright guy but he has terrible negotiating skills and it can become very frustrating trying to make a deal with him. He use to have most of the night force vehicles like the night ray and night boomer but some aholes came in and bought it all. lou was asking such high prices i never thought it would sell, guess i should of pulled the trigger. Another thing about lou's store is it is a effin mess, he has shit everywhere and you really have to bug him to get him to dig it out for you. Ive gone thrugh so many boxes in his store and found gems just hidden away, he has a insane amount of stuff but you could spend hours in that place and still be mind fu*ked.

Sweet Lou's is awesome i only make it there a few times in the summer but it love going there and can spend hours just looking at all the cool stuff, i especialy love looking through his "JUNK'" boxes in the back !!

It looks like TRU Southfield got a full revision case of POC wave 1 and 2.

It was one of each of the following: wave 1 CCommander, Firefly, Alley Viper, SShadow, Jungle Duke, BHead, and SEyes. wave 2 Zartan, Dusty, Arctic Destro, Jungle Viper, and Swivel Hips SEyes.

I agree with Shipwreck! I did the same thing, but also added the brown shoulder straps from DG Duke, giving Shippy a more vintage look, ala the early 2000s. Got that idea from another Tanker who modded Shippy, to also include the fins and spread wing Polly from the ROC/POC version.

I just stopped by the sale at Apparitions. i won't be set up today but will be there tomorrow. The only Joe items i saw today was a FLAGG for $150 (incomplete but not bad) and a Rolling Thunder for $40 (only missing 1 small missile). Tons of games, lots of Star Wars and Star Trek stuff, lots of random toys and comics. Looks like it'll be good.

All the Dollar General figures were up in the front of the store at a spot I didn't check.....
They must have had 3-4 cases worth.......

As far as Sterling Heights goes, 1 Target (Schoenherr) hasn't put any Joes out yet. Further up Hall Rd/M-59, however, the Macomb (or Clinton Twp?) store had a few of the basic figures on the pegs, all warmers though. They did have 1 of the Slice/SS/SE 3-packs though. Yeah looking back on the thread I was at that Walmart at the right moment.. didn't get the dark ninja, looks great but I had to draw the line somewhere. Meijers on Lake Lansing has Testor's acrylic paint on clearance, I got the amazing Airbrush set for $12 and smaller paint sets are only $2.50. I always swap my figures' parts, heads, and gear, this will be my first foray into paint outside of sharpie.

Riteaid in Plymouth (mainstreet) has a ret. Flint and a vintage roc Destro. Target wixom has all wave 1 retaliation, and Walmart New Hudson had a ninjaduel SE and sneakattack SS. I took SE and left SS. Still not digging the movie SS look. Happy hunting all

Dude, my girlfriend went there and got the rest for me today. She was on the phone with me telling me what they had and she put all the ones I told her I wanted in the kart. Then she said a guy came up and started flipping through the pegs at what was left and then saw she had them all. He told her if hed have been 5 minutes faster he would have them. Then he grabbed the ninja cruiser off the shelf and said I bet he wanted this one too, oh well.

that is so funny. i was the other guy. if i said "oh well" i didn't mean to sound like a dick. i really only went for the ninja cruiser. i was still on the fence about the rest of the figures, but i am glad they went to another tanker.

Picked both of the new three packs this weekend at the South Lansing Target and grabbed some vintage stuff of Evil-Bay.
I've not been hunting in awhile, been under the weather had school all last monday and toward the end of my last class I was feeling chilled and aching.
Sure enough that night I had the pleasure of worshing the porcelin god until about 6am the following morning. The next day was ruff as I expected it would be, but by noon I was off to see my Primary Doctor who informed me that I not only had picked up Influenza but Brohnchitis as well, wth lol.
So why I am getting better, I cant take a flight of stairs without dripping sweat and succumbing to a fit of coughing. The cold outside is the worst, its as if I'm allergic to it. If I step out into the cold as soon as it hits my lungs I'm gasping for each breath, I've got two different inhalers that help a bit plus antibiotics but I feel like my chest, or more too it my lungs are filled with fluid. Sucks
Just had to take a break from school work to vent, its way cool to see you all finding stuff out their. Keep posting Michigan Tankers, I'm living through all your hunting finds. T/C

Did a quick run today. Howell Meijers had wave 1. Retaliation (I grabbed a cobra trooper). I found a black DG Trooper a the Dollar General and left 3 ss on the pegs.

Scored wave 2.5 again at walmart on court and belsay in flint on my way home from work. I had a employee pull the case from the back for me as they weren't on the peg's yet. I grabbed alley viper, dark ninja and lady jaye, left the rest.

Check your TRUs if you're looking for wave 2.5. I stopped by 7 Mile and Middlebelt on a whim tonight after striking out at Farmington Target. Picked up Firefly, Joe Derp, Dark Ninja, and Wave 2.5 Snake Eyes. Also snagged the lone Crimson Hiss for 14.99

Overall that concludes my searching for wave 2.5

I left a Lady Jaye, Rockblock, Cyber Ninja, and both avail Storm Shadows for someone else on the pegs.

I'm done and clear until we see ultimate line stuff in wave 3-4. Now to go get ebay violated for a couple Xaviers and Jubilee. Aside from that I think I have just about everything I've been looking for. Might have to dip into completing some of my burgeoning transformer collection.

They had 2 Wave 1 Red Ninjas marked $5.22 but they rang-up $6.97

It still felt like a deal at $6.97 with all the other stores charging $10.00

TRU Madison Heights had 2 full cases of the new wave.

They were all there as of this afternoon, minus the 2 Alley Vipers. Those 2 figures had to come home with me.

They also had all of the Kreo single figures and all of the Kreo sets.

I was very tempted but decided not to go down that road and start collecting another line other of toys.

Made a run to East Lansing today. Very, very little to be found. TRU had renegades Scarlett and Wv1 ss and se. They had several vehicles ( fang boat, new hiss, and the cobra VTOL from last year)

Target had two Wv1 Roadblocks and lots of the se on motorcycle things.
