ok I'm only doing this once.
EDIT:
UNLESS YOU'RE A FRIEND (or a mod) don't bother PMing me with questions about these. That's as elitist as I get. Otherwise hopefully I have a reputation of sharing and caring.
hehehehh.
Not many people are going to do this.
(especially since I had to drive downtown to get them from the bank
and now I have to go take them back).

I don't keep them in my home because I have a curious son, crazy dogs,
friends and family (who may not know better), and because honestly I'm more concerned with preserving these things than anything else.

anyways... these are my personal holy grails.
yes some of them are actually holy grails... but the others
are just things I really love.
Most of them have no actual value.
Prototypes are odd that way. Maybe in 20 years my prototypes
will have some value but I really don't care either way.
I like the process and I enjoy the history aspect.
a few weeks ago I was planning on posting pics of these but I took the pics at the bank and then was asked to erase the pics or hand over my camera (cuz you can't take pics in a bank... which I knew cuz i used to work at one... but wasn't really thinking about it at the time).
but this morning I saw the PDD thread so I figured what the hell.
I'm a stay at home father... it's (almost) nice out.
anyways...
pictured below are the following:
Sigma 6 Dusty (I have the accessories I just didn't feel like going through all that)
Sigma 6 "Blue" Stone
City Strike Snake Eyes prototype
Painted Spasma Prototype
ME Iron Klaw Prototype
Original Pimp Daddy Destro
Rocky Balboa 2up sculpt (authenticated by Bill Merklein himself. yes this sculpt has made an appearance before. yes it's the same sculpt not a second one or different one).

Pretty sweet stuff there!

some of it is DEFINITELY a matter of taste. heheheh.
I am not fond of the Dusty aesthetics as much as its
part in the pre-production/prototype/unreleased/canceled etc
aspect of things. and considering all the canceled threads
going on... I figured it was appropriate.

I think rhetorical questions are acceptable.

Unless of course you really don't know if he got that Rocky mock-up or not, and you were actually asking that question. Then he'll shut you down, homes!

You cheeky bastard. I figured you had a PDD, but a carded PDD? That truly is a holy grail. The Rocky 2up easy to understand the rarity given it's one of a kind, but I don't think many people on here will grasp how hard it is to come across a carded PDD. That's like a grail of a grail.

What is the "Painted Spazma Prototype"? I've never heard of it before. What series was it supposed to be in? He's got a cool TARGET-esq look to him.

which is fine but I can probably already anticipate most of the questions
that would be flung at me via PM in relation to this thread.

i just really love these two prototypes.
the city strike looks like some sort of stealth variant so i love it for that
and the iron klaw is just brutal looking. if they kept the paint apps
muted had they ever released it... I think it would have been pretty bad ass. not sure if a big white skull face would have translated well
in the ME style. but who knows. that's why I sent the head to broken arrow.
so people could have it to play around with.

Those 97 carded figures were what ultimately got me to decide to stop being a carded collector all together 12 years ago and stick to loose since half of the bubbles fell off just due to gravity :D

I'd have to say the Rocky sculpt wins out for me as it's a one of a kind type of item. In fact, I think this is the only 2-up sculpture I've ever seen for any figure. (not to be confused with a 2-up figure)

let me ... clear up the whole PM request thing.

what I meant was... if you have an actual question just post it in the thread. that way i'm not getting four gogzillion pm's asking the same thing.
also it deters the 'where did you get it, how can i get one, how much do you want for yours, is it real' stuff.

for other stuff I don't mind getting PM'ed those questions... especially with new protos or whatever.

but for this stuff... one of the reasons people don't really share what they have... is they get badgered constantly. they really do.
keep in mind there are a LOT of people on this forum who don't post.
you should see what they have.

you wanna see what even I don't have?

Did you get it from, or to your knowledge, has it ever been on ebay?
I remember a few years back, there was one on ebay, and he was in the same position.
I know this because I stared longingly at it for way too long.
Thanks for sharing all your goods, I knew you had stuff in the bank, and the not knowing was killing me.

some of it is DEFINITELY a matter of taste. heheheh.
I am not fond of the Dusty aesthetics as much as its
part in the pre-production/prototype/unreleased/canceled etc
aspect of things. and considering all the canceled threads
going on... I figured it was appropriate.

Are you crazy? Dusty is one of the best looking Sigma 6 8'' figures. Great stuff and thanks for sharing!

i didn't really mean as a whole... I just mean compared to the rest of my stuff.. he's big and bulky and "stiff."
him and the blue stone are like sore thumbs when put next to my other stuff.

what's the story on the blue Lt. Stone? "midnight" figure or actual canceled product?

good question.
some people claim there's no such thing as
midnight figs and yet there's obviously a possibility
of it.
i guess it begs the question... why would they make them?
I mean to make the figure, paint it, and put it in a box...
I got this one for pretty cheap so it's not like someone was
out to make a profit on it.
and that person got it cheaper.
so the original seller obviously didn't make that much off of it...
and the china sellers BUY them from factory leakers so
the factory person (who might have made it) made even less
on it... although USD does go a long way in China.
now if there were hundreds I'd understand.
but just a couple... and for non-extreme prices... seems
kinda odd to me.
but i'm not dismissing the concept.
i personally have no info on it to that degree.
justin at generalsjoes is a sigma 6 deity.
he'd be the best one to ask.

getting prototypes in general is easy.
it's WHICH ones that gets tough.
lately there's a huge anti-surge of prototypes.
somewhere between this gap in product and
the china sellers personal collections...
it's been dry as hell.
the person who sold me the POC Zartan, Snowjob, Arctic Duke, Desert SS, and most of my other ME protos... kept some for himself.
because he's also a collector.
so there is stuff that even I can't get.
and the vintage stuff is so damn cool even I don't have access to
that stuff for the most part.
grrrr.

to be honest it looks factory.
part of me wants to think that this was gonna be
an international variant or maybe this was the original color
and then it got switched to that color on yojoe.com
there are spots that look kinda messy... and almost
obviously hand painted... but like I said... overall it's very

Yeah, would be nice to have two to compare. Then you could really get an idea if it's been handpainted or factory applied or both.

This figure was almost made on three separate occasions, and I'm fairly certain you have the 2001 proto version of that Spasma. They were first revealed with factory samples at the end of the line in 94/95 and it had a yellow paint job with black tiger stripes. When they re-released the line in 2001, all three of the first wave were painted very different from their original counterparts (except for Warwolf, his colors were just inverted which was close enough that I sold my carded sample of him at my wife's insistence :( ).
Looking at the colors of the 2001 painted proto of Spasma that went unreleased (due to poor sales of the first wave) Preproduction: Spasma (http://yojoe.com/archive/preprod/01/spasma.shtml)
you can see that your figure matches this one.
After they were cancelled from KBToys, I remember a dealer at the New Orleans con (I believe it was Corey from smalljoes), told me he was trying to get a deal with funskool to produce the set as a smalljoes exclusive but it fell through since he couldn't get guarantees that they wouldn't sell it to other dealers. (not 100% on this since this was some years back and was told to me in the middle of line waiting to buy action figures, or maybe it was the dinner, gah can't remember).

Too cool of a figure to almost be released three times but never make the cut.

I personally am a huge fan Of PDD, I understand why you cherish it. My favorites however, of your grails, are the blue Stone and Dusty, I collected Sigma six with a passion. Very Nice Gyre, may you enjoy them for many, many years to come.

Killer stuff. I've had dreams where I'm walking through an old, dusty Toys R Us and find stuff like that PDD on the pegs. Hey, a man can dream right!

So a good question now is, what does your foreign collection look like?

You have some beautiful pieces Gyre. That Rocky sculpt makes me
very jealous. I just watched Rocky one on encore two days ago. Now after seeing your sculpt, I feel like running up a flight of stairs and punching a raw steak. Lol. I will happily trade you a 2-Up for that sculpt.

such behavior would only make that even more apparent.

getting prototypes in general is easy.
it's WHICH ones that gets tough.
lately there's a huge anti-surge of prototypes.
somewhere between this gap in product and
the china sellers personal collections...
it's been dry as hell.
the person who sold me the POC Zartan, Snowjob, Arctic Duke, Desert SS, and most of my other ME protos... kept some for himself.
because he's also a collector.
so there is stuff that even I can't get.
and the vintage stuff is so damn cool even I don't have access to
that stuff for the most part.
grrrr.

I have to say this because I can't get it out of my head. The way you type in line format vs paragraph format makes me read your posts like freeverse poetry. It's unintentionally hilarious to read random GIJoe conversation that way. Sorry, I'm an English teacher and that's just how I see it. I can't make myself read it normally!

Thanks for sharing your stuff, too :)

hey take it easy on me I've only been collecting for a year.
hehehehh.
i spend most of my time trying to find the new stuff.

Avoiding teh uber-elites...nice call. :D

Stuff like this (and the 80's stuff if/when there's a chance to see it) is pretty cool just to see/know about. Like the ROC vehicles that got cancelled and mindbender/chuckles sets.

It'd be nice to see those get re-released later on in the line at some point since it seems like those got the short end of the stick when retailers/hasbro made the switch to focus on the movie line.

Some of it is a mixed bag when it comes to the preprod stuff b/c some of it is legitimate changes coming from Hasbro to modify details like a paint mask or slight change to a sculpt, and then there are the guys who throw whatever is leftover from running test shots together (kind of the impression I got from that Spirit figure) and also running multiple test shots "just to check" lol...even with the volume they run through production, it seems like there are always more that pop up from time to time.

yeah the Spirit figure is an odd one.
but I didn't pay a lot for it and all the other protos I received from
that seller were "real" or more accurately... NOT kitbashes.
i'm not saying they didn't have the proto vest and proto spirit head
and proto firefly body just lying around... but to put them all
together and make a sort of militant Spirit akin to Billy in the Predator films DOES at least pique a little interest as to what it might actually be.
either way I like the look of it.

Man, the Manimals were so freakin' weird. I remember seeing them in KB's, but I was in my "too cool for Joe" phase, so I passed. Sad now, of course, but that's life. At least I still have my Lunartix figs, cheesy as they are. I need to bust those out of storage.

I'd just take some exclusive pics for their website since I had
to go downtown today anyways and deal with some

anyways... and while taking pics for casa slaughter I realized I never posted
a pic showing the scale of the 2up for YOU guys ...so here ya go:

Very, very nice pieces you got there, Gyre!
Thanks for sharing!

I am also glad to see some love for the Manimals! :-)

I love how jaimanstone made the connection between the blue/black Spasma and the TARGAT figure... That works!!

It would be fun to do a diorama with them together...

Thanks again!

YOJOE.COM | Spasma (http://www.yojoe.com/archive/unproduced/spasma.shtml)

Aah, that's the Spasma?

I thought at first it was some sort of Cobra Commander in...well, a dick suit or something like that lol.
Very curious figure.

Interesting the "Blue" Lt Stone. It reminds me to the Cobra Disguise Flint.

I don't get the whole "Holy Grail" thing, but there's some funny weird stuff in there.
Have you considered to do some sort of expo in a gallery or something like that?

Not to my knowledge, Hell, until this thread was zombied back to the front page, I didn't even know a "blue armor stone" existed!
