Okay, so I was going to post this in the regular customs thread and if its wrong to post it here I apologize. It just seems that 1/6 figures don't seem to get much love on this forum. So awhile ago I got into the idea of taking 12" Joes and other generic 12" guys and making customs of some of my favorite Joes.
I bought myself an RoC Destro and wondered what I could do with him. So I used a little Model Masters Flat Black to give him gloves. (I didn't know how to remove the hands on the bigger figures) I also used a thin coat of Model Master's Drab Green to give him a darker look. I like it. I was trying to go for an almost IDW look for him. The clothes and accessories are miscellaneous stuff I ordered online. Let me know what you think. Sorry the photos are so dark, I may try to get better ones tomorrow.

This is the way I always envisioned Destro.

Nice. Destro was the best of the 12" movie line.
To pop out the hands, use a hairdryer to warm up the forearm, take an extra twist-tie and twist it around the wrist, then use pliers to pull on the twist-tie and it should pop right out. I use the twist-tie to apply pressure to the wrist, not the hand.

Thanks guys. I will try and gt some better pics this afternoon.
The figure was a great base, but I just couldn't get past the eyes. The little bit of drab green over them really seemed to do the trick. Under bright light you can still see the shadow of the iris and pupil under the green. It's kind of eerie, which I dug as I like IDW's take on him kind of being a ghost of a man inside the mask. After his eyes the hands just had to be done black, they stood out bad.
I've got some other figures planned, but I'm not sure I'll ever really be done with this Destro. The case actually works, so I may construct some crazy looking bomb type device to put in it, and I'd like to get a set of cuffs to chain it to his wrist. Plus, as an arms supplier I'll probably keep buying him different weapons, you can never have too many.

I second that! Great work!!!

Destro always looks better in street clothes. I never understood the disco suite thing. Even in the 80's it was just silly.
Great job.

Okay, I took a few more close up shots in brighter light, but I think I'm just unable to take good photos. I think the camera is just fine.

Great work. Love what you did with the head and adding the leather jacket is a nice touch.

Damn, you're making me want to go out and get one of those Destros!
Be a whole lot cheaper than the Sideshow route.

Thanks guys. Price and impatience were my main motivations. While I will be getting some Sideshow's here and there, there are alot of characters I'd love to see done, and I don't have the money to buy a Sideshow version of everyone. Also, there are many figures I'd like to take a swing at that Sideshow will likely never get to.
I picked up the ARAH 12" style Joe 3 Pack on clearance. It included Rock n' Roll, WetSuit, and Ace. Plus I've picked up a few generic guys here and there.
My youngest has already claimed the WetSuit, which isn't a big deal as there really isn't alot I could do with him easily. However, the Rn'R doesn't really look right to me, he's too clean cut, and Ace already looks waaaayyyy to much like Wild Bill for me not to take a swing at him.
I've got lots of things planned, but I'm not sure who to go with next. Any ideas?

I could have sworn that 3 pack came with Wild Bill.
You sure it's Ace?
As for R&R, just give him some nice, all new 1/6 scale duds, and give him some washes on the head and hands to dirty him up.
Maybe bandage one of his hands, a dab of red paint for battle damage.
They have all kinds of 1/6 scale accessories, go to Cotswald collectibles, you could give him a pack of smokes!
Toy Soldiers makes boots with actual laces for God Sake, go crazy.

They list him as Ace, and he's definitely not geared up as an Army chopper pilot. However, he has brown hair and a handlebar mustache...so to me he's Wild Bill, I can't look at the figure and see anything else. So i HAVE to fix him.
The thing with the Rn'R figure is the hair and beard is very well groomed. To me R'nR looks like Thor in U.S. Army fatigues. I know one of the high end companies makes a pretty grizzly looking dude, but I think he's got red hair. I may see if I can pick up a plain figure of him and just kitbash the gear, then get myself some paints to redo the do.
I have grey paint, I was half tempted to use the Rn'R to do a commando Shippy, but with the grey dyed beard from "Springfield". lol

Wild Bill was supposed to be in that 3-pack when it was announced. Why they changed it to Ace, I don't think anyone will ever know, but his accessories are awful. Everything in that set is a rehash of other figures, but not bad for bashing.

Yeah, that's what I figured. TRU had them on clearance so it seemed silly to pass them up.

That's wierd. They show up for me, and they are all linked to my photobucket. So if one set is working, they both should be. I got no answer for that one.

You're right, I saw that set so many times, I just thought it was Wild Bill, never bothered to look at the name.
If we're thinking about the same guy, Hot Toys made a Bad-ass Vietnam era SEAL Machine gunner who is beyond cool.
He's got a machete, a cigar, amazing.
If you took the time to paint him, his face is covered in green camo, that would be the ULTIMATE R&R.
Yeah, you want a definitive R&R, use the Hit Toys guy as a base and give the Hasbro R&R to your kids.

The Hasbro R&R is a solid figure, and he looks good, just not for R&R. Since he's my favorite Joe, if I'm going to do him up, I want to make sure he's absolutely killer.

I think short sleeves for R&R is the way to go.
He's also gotta have gloves.
I know the original didn't, but it's little stuff like that, that will add realism and make him look more badass.
