View Full Version : I Enjoyed The RoC Figures...

I really did! I liked the RoC figures... I know that there were a lot of Tankers that didn't like them... either for the toys themselves, or the pricing...

25th was great, and i hope they continue to remake classic Joes in the new styling, but when the line died down last summer i looked around...

I was staring at all of the figures that i was using 2 years prior, just in a new sculpt... My ARAH joes were put up, replaced by the superior (in my opinion) 25th/ME versions. And not much had really changed...

Along comes the RoC line... Great figures, new outfits, and if you didn't like the character's names, you could just change them up and *BAM* instant new army... I liked the uniformity of the blue camo, then later the greens... I liked the RIA look... Didn't care for the Delta-6 suits too much, but i still got them, they can stand in for STAR Brigade until i get them going with customs...

Speaking of customs... This line brought a ton of new parts into the mix. Badly needed female sculpts, tons of new web gear...

So, with a lot of negative feelings about this toy line, i thought it would be nice to have a thread to say something positive about it.

I'm totally with you there, just seeing all the custom Sci-Fi's on the forums here is proof of that.
If all we get in the future is lots of Frankenjoes and repaints from Hasbro, at least now they have more to work with!

As a whole, I disliked the line, since I severely disliked the main characters figures, and those were what I found most around here.

However, offscreen joes and other vehicle figures I found great for the most part. The Offscreen 2 packs, the Base sets from Walmart, vehicle drivers like Rampage and Thunderblast that definitely fit in with my 25th/Classic, plus Resolute Snake Eyes and the TRU exclusive single packs with Firefly, BBQ, Doc and the like. Lots of stuff to like about the set, just not the primary characters for me.

Absolutely. RoC had a vey real world feel to much of the line as far as the figures are concerned. Too bad they dropped the ball on that end with the Cobras, but the fact that they tried to make the Joes look a little bit more like a real unit was very, very cool.

I hated the movie, and thus- everything from the movie.

However, I did like getting more modern weapons and I really enjoyed the offscreen characters.

I use them as an European Union Counterpart to GI JOE I call them the Imperial Guard due to the eagle representing the HRE.

I enjoyed the movie and the figures, was nice to see a different take on the Joe line where JvsC, VvsV, Spytroops, and Sigma 6 kinda failed to me.

I enjoyed a lot of the ROC stuff, but I found myself avoiding most of the main characters (Duke, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow). Some of the new characters like Helix and Stone are some of the best figs we've seen in recent years. I really like the Destro even though he's clogging the pegs right now and I've found myself buying a lot of Neo Vipers and they were the one thing that I thought I'd never buy. Individually, they're not exceptional, but they look much better than I expected en masse. They make great army builders at the $5 price.

I like the RoC line as well, movie and off-screen characters.

I don't equate the movie and toys together, meaning liking one doesn't automatically mean like the other and disliking one doesn't automatically mean disliking the other.

But I did like RoC, but like the RoC line alot better.

And like Chief, I integrate my RoC with my 25th/ME Joes and get a larger army. Simple renaming (which I did with the 25th/ME and original ARAH as well) and get a large army and some of the more obvious holes in the Joe line up filled.

yes the 25th was a great update to our beloved RAH figs. i felt the same way but it was Res that got me going not roc. as res had the same idea that roc had to update the look of our fav charters. to bad res didnt live longer as i would of loved to see how they handle all the joes & cobras.

Until i see pre-order offers for a Resolute 7-pack, i am pretending Resolute doesn't exist right now...

There really weren't that many characters in Resolute that got new designs.

Duke, Flint, Rock 'n Roll, Gung-Ho, Snake-Eyes.

Stalker got dreadlocks. Scarlett's was same basica design, just modernized it.

Lady Jaye, same (even complete with the cap).

Ripcord, basically a new character really.

Shipwreck, could qualify.

But anyways, back on topic, lol

I would love if they'd do a PIT Commando in the green camo pattern as well as the brown. Now that would be a great repaint.

And I use most of the ROC repaints as my Resolute versions, its pretty close. The Offscreen 2 pack Gung Ho, for instance, TRU Firefly, Snake Eyes obviously, Shipwreck could qualify on this also, his ROC version was a pretty good Resolute-like interpretation.

I absolutely hated the movie but loved the toyline. More affordable and common than 25th was. The only figs I never seen was accelerator duke and kamakura but those are no big loss to me. I'm fine without them. Desert Dukes, Reactive Armor figs and Pit Commandos are what made this line great for me. Instant background troops. Army building at it's finest.

What off screen characters are you people talking about were so great? Did I miss something here.

Everything you said, the unified look, custom possibilities, etc were the "bright side" expectations I had when 25th was wrapping up.

I think after the trial and error of 25th, ROC has the most impressive construction, articulation, and sculpting yet. It's a shame so many classic guys were made during the baby steps and couldn't benefit. Vintage designs done now would be even better than 2 years ago...but I wouldnt want to rebuy stuff so soon.

At the ROC's launch, despite a bland look, it was nice seeing a few figures with 100% new parts. It was also cool that they often come with so many accessories, since they aren't trying to match a vintage character. Spotting some 25th at TJ Maxx did make me miss it more than I realized though.

I've said it a couple of times in other threads, ROC got me into GI Joe toys for the first time since I'd stopped in 88'. Love the look and gear of the figures much more than the 25th stuff.

well thats what made res cool for me updated looks even if they where close to there v1 out fits. also it was only a hr show if it was in for along run who knows how they could of made them look.
to add to your list of joes that got new looks was BH,RB,wild bill, spirit, airborne, doc gray hair, &Tunnel rat thats alot of updates where most wont get figs.

Until i see pre-order offers for a Resolute 7-pack, i am pretending Resolute doesn't exist right now...

lol i hear ya man i just hope they are good molds & not just the one we got already lol.

now if you go buy toys that look like res is RB,flash, charbroil,SE,the one vehicle driver ,gung ho,&helix lol .

the only thing roc really gave us to me is new female parts & helix.

I don't classify a shirt color change or hair color as an update, not really.

Beachhead, Spirit, Wild Bill were the same. I really didn't seen much difference (Spirit got rid of the pony tails).

I would have liked to have seen what else could have come out in that style.

I loved Flint and Rock 'n Roll.

Oh, i agree... Myself, i liked almost all of the Joe figs, but only a select few of the Cobras...

My kids loved the whole Viper series, so we ended up with more than a few of them, though...

Take Night Adder, he's an ROC figure, in ROC packing, part of the ROC line.
However, I don't consider him part of the movie, he fits in with 25th/ME just fine imo.
Also Charbroil, let's face it, he was a nod to the ARAH fans, and for that reason I got him.
He may be a frankenjoe, but I appreciate hasbro's effort none the less.

That's because the whole figure except for the head is from the canceled Resolute Roadblock (at the time). I like that figure, too...don't get me wrong. I just mean he fits in because the base figure was designed for that line.

I love the ROC line, it took what was good about the 25th/Modern Era line, and vastly improved upon it. Not counting the repaints that carried over, mind you.

I felt like a little kid when I walked into Target that first day, and spent 150 bucks on all the movie figures I could get my hands on.

yup there where things that where under the roc banner but was not roc. sorry to burst your bubble. just cuse it said roc didnt make it roc. CS se was Res SE all the way. this here is where the problem lies. just cuse it was under the roc banner ppl think it was for roc it wasnt it was for the 25th/me/res line that they stuck in the roc banner not line to get us roc haters you can say to buy it. also to boots the roc label.the battle stations where for the 25th line just had roc figs in them.

That's what I'm saying, I bought tons of ROC stuff, but the only thing I have that was actually in the movie are my Steel Crushers.
It will always be all lumped together, but I still don't like any of the Movie interpretations of the characters.
I'm not saying the movie Storm Shadow figures sucked, I just think the 25th/ME lines offered better versions.

I thought all the ROC figs were great. there was a lot of repainting and part meshing going on but...they really made it work for the most part. plus many of the figures I had never seen in their 25th paint jobs b4....IE BArbecue, Para Viper, Night Creeper, Televiper, Etc. so they all felt new to me. it's a shame tho that a lot of the female figs like Cover Girl and Baroness are shelf warming...I hope it is because hasbro sent tons of those and not cuz people aren't buying them. we still need more female figs in the future. I don't want hasbro to get discouraged! and kudos to them for having so many female figures released this past year even.

They are coming cheaper...eventualy (over here anyway, we take a while to catch up) But that said i do prefer the more darker realistic movie style anyway, even if the movie itself isnt entirely a fan fav. There were 2 reasons why i got back into Gi-Joe; the ROC figures and the Resolute movie!

I loved the RoC movie and the RoC toy line as well.

Recently I've been looking at my Joe collection and my interests have been leaning more towards ARAH.

Pics of the Red Shadows con exclusives even have me day dreaming about O Ring Joes.

I just watched Operation HISS and I'm all set to get excited about RoC again.

I'm a mark for GI Joe.

It's Toy Fair weekend. Wooo Hoooo!
