Since I've been responding so much to Echo7Solo's thread on his Ripcord WIP, I figured I'd give y'all a preview of the Ripcord custom I'm working on. He is still a work in progress but I do have some paint work done to the figure already(the base Olive Drab) but still have to add the darker green camo and decide what to do about all of the grey areas. He does have a ton of gear that I'm trying to make as close to accurate as I can with the supplies I have. The HALO rig and the ruck harnesses with both be RIT dyed black here very soon but the HALO rig still needs a little fine tuning. Also, Duke's head isn't final. I'm debating on whether to resculpt it a little, leave it as is with red hair, or use a different head(possibly 25th Ace or DTC Barrel Roll modded) So, check out the pics.

Head: 25th Duke (for now)
Body: 25th SE v1
HALO rig: Dusty Trails MC-4 parachute pack, 25th Stinger Driver, Air Trooper, and SE v1 harnesses
Rucksack: BBi Modern Paratrooper ruck, 25th Stalker and Air Trooper harnesses
M4, MP5, silenced pistol: BBi Modern Paratrooper
Helmets: VvV Slipstream w/ Dusty Trails HALO paratrooper mask/25th Duke
air hose: Star Wars Firespeeder Pilot
air tank: CO2 cartridge from VvV Frostbite paintball gun
explosives pack and knife: 25th SE v1

yeah he is right. Most people just do things because it looks close enough or looks cool. You are going for what looks "right" and functions right. Very cool. Hat's off to you bro.

Thanks for the compliments! Lost a whole weekend of working on him due to being out of town but I'm back home and out of school for a week so I should have him nearly finished, if not completely finished, this week.

I don't know if that is a fair assessment of why customizers make certain decisions. maybe it is parts limitations, or simply less skilled abilities. I know my 25th Ripcord isn't merely as complicated because I was more interested in mimicking the originals gear, not an actual HALO Jumper. that has nothing to do with close enough or looks cool, which seems you are inferring a negative connotation to such (if I am misunderstanding your meaning and am overreacting, I apologize) -- I am aiming for a different look of the figure, one that looks more like the original figure, than someone who is interested in mimicking an actual HALO gear.

that being said -- wow, that is just freaking sweet.

I think it is an awesome custom. But like gunslinger said, I'd rather see Hasbro do a version that resembles the original.

Here's an update(3/20/08):

Dyed and painted the accessories and added the camo pattern to the uniform. Still need to do some minor detailing to the uniform and modify the head and he'll be pretty much set. Let me know what you think so far.

Wowzers man that rocks & rocks hard.
You`ve done Ripcord proud.
I doubt we`ll see Hasbro`s version half way as sharp as this (though I pray I`m wrong).

The HALO rig & damn the sweet idea of the backpack too are both easily attainable for Hasbro to do (moreso with info you`ve provided Hasbro).

That you have used experiance for a fully equipped HALO jump Ripcord rather than the Hasbro "Hollywood" jumper (quasie chute rig) types they have done in the past.
That shines through & certainly makes your figure the best I`ve seen of an HALO jumper.

I RIT dyed the HALO rig and the backpack as well as the explosives pack, helmets, and air hose. All but the air hose and explosives pack have been painted too to add more detailing.

As for the redhead part, well, he's still not quite finished. I still need to add some detail to the uniform and modify the head and paint it.

Ripcord is finished, well, except for a new head from Alyosha. I went ahead and painted the Duke head to be Ripcord as a placeholder. I did get the body detailing painted and took a few more full loadout pics and some action poses.

That is an incredible Ripcord. The perv in me voted for the Baroness, but yours was easily my second favorite. I guess maybe the Baroness got DQ'd or something. Anybody know?

I hope you win man. Maybe when my son (2) is my age Hasbro will make one this accurate.

The Baroness figure and the Vietnam SE were both DQ'd for vote boosting(creating new accounts to boost their vote count).

I recently found this old thread from '08 and I'm OVERLY satisfied wit the uber-realism brought for this figure. Awesome job on the halo rig. More custom Ripcords should be done like this.

Wow, it's been a while since this thread has surfaced! Thanks for the compliments! I actually won the GIJCC Custom Contest with this figure and still have him in a acrylic case in a curio cabinet with some of my favorite Joes. I was in the Army as a Parachute Rigger at the time I did this custom so I had all the reference material I needed to properly pull off a nearly accurate HALO rig. I may go and do a 30th anniversary Ripcord and see if I can make an even better rig. Thanks again!
