I upgraded this past week from a rca 25in tube type tv to a rca 32 lcd model #l32hd31r and a dvd surround sound system model #rtd315w

and i am trying to hook a them together with my xbox so i can have surround sound with the tv or xbox. For the time being i have the xbox hooked to the tv by hdmi cable and just the tv has surround sound not the xbox.

the tv has the following connections on the back
1hdmi 1/dvi input
hdmi 2 input
1 set of componet in [cmpt]
ditigal audio out coaxial
s-video
audio/video in1 [vid1]
video and audio port pc in
antenna/cable

the dvd surround sound has the following
video out
aux in left/right
component video

opticial in
hdmi i think it is for video out but not sure cause it is not labeled

the way i have surround sound to my tv is going from audio in on the surround sound unit to the audio out jack on my cable box

so if i use the hdmi cable from the surround sound out if it is a out going to hdmi input to the tv then plug my xbox in the the audio jack on the surround sound unit and use a spilter cable for the video out will i have bad video quality?

If your DVD player/surround sound system has an HDMI in, then just run an HDMI cable from your Xbox into the 'receiver'. Then run a second HDMI from your 'receiver' to the TV. If not, you can still run an HDMI from your Xbox to the TV and an optical cable from the Xbox to the 'receiver'. But you will need the HD cable kit to do so.

Would you be able to hook a fiber optic cable from the xbox right to the surround? If so I would think that would offer you the best sound. I have a pair of Tritton headphones that work like that. They have a fiber optic cable that goes from the xbox right to the power box of the headphones. I'm not sure how it compares to other set ups but I have been impressed with how it sounds so far. Super crisp. You can hear someone change a weapon or reload if you are close enough. Not sure how that will translate into a bigger system though.
