Well, look, I couldn't resist the SE...have one in the mail from a 3rd party...and I have Duke preordered. But I have to agree with you here, though not for the same reasons. If I'm going to drop 100 bucks on a toy/collector's item, it better be a core character from whatever universe. Firefly for $100? Sure. Zartan? Absolutely. Beachhead, Shipwreck or Flint? Yes, yes, and yes. But...Cobra Sniper....? Looks cool, but not $100 cool.

Thank you for understanding. I won't buy them, yet I do understand the draw of these. $100 for this, while cool, is way too much, and strikes me as little more than a quick cash grab from a company that makes tons of profit off these figures.

Yeah, this seems like a pretty transparent cash grab. I doubt there are any "new parts" involved in this figure; it is probably essentially a Sideshow Frankenjoe. And hey, good for them if people buy it. Capitalism and all. Just won't get my dollar.

Yeah big deal, hes a regular Blue Trooper with black gear that they already released, I am army building the hell out of these type of guys! Don't got the money to play? Then step back....Its a plus that he is a classic cobra troop and not an ROC turtle viper! Gawd Sideshow don't you dare change lines on us to ROC ever!

I guess a sniper is cooler, but it surprises me if they were going to go the "repaint" route they wouldn't do a Stinger Driver instead, since it's a 'canon' redeco...

I'm digging it... but at the same time like Foolproof pointed out $100 for what basically amounts to a repaint is pretty steep. Perhaps if they had some extra accessories or gear. Just one rifle and one pistol, there should be NVGs and maybe even some type of Ghillie Suit. That would better justify the price IMO.

Plus mixing and mathcing gear/clothing at some point with all of these could present some awesome configurations...though I dread trying to undress and redress these big figures LOL thier little buckles and stuff, theres soooo many and so much to work with, I dun have the patience for that LOL...

True, very true... hell i'd probably buy 10 just to fill the dearth of troop builders that have actually been worth buying lately. If it wasn't for the EEL, Para-Viper and Snow Serpent repaints there's a good chance i wouldn't have bought a single figure for the rest of the year.

I believe other than the rifle the head is different, haven't compared to others but read on other forums that it is indeed different.
To get this license is probably costing SS a crap load of $$ so they are going to make as many troopers as they can until they don't sell anymore.
I don't have a huge problem with it, of course I want main characters, but it doesn't take away from the other "core" characters they are planning for many years (that was also already confirmed) it is a simple retool that you don't have to buy if you don't want to.
If they put out all the main characters early the line will surely die out very quickly, and we won't get to see the b, c, and d characters.
Patience they have already done quite a bit with this line so far, and I am sure it will get much better.

more time and development to come up with a Cobra viper, this is just a couple simple retools.
Do you people think all the characters are just done and sitting on shelves waiting to be the next one in line to order??
C'mon with hasbro approvals, design, prototypes this takes months and months.
I bet this along with the officer was decided when they made the trooper.

Actually Hot Toys 1/6 scale retail for considerably more. It's a good idea and not a complete repaint. Custom making a 1/6 scale figure at this end of the quality scale costs in that price range anyways.

As nice as it is...I'd rather it be a less generic character. I mean, all the little bits are nice, but can be readily found at a hobby craft shoppe for less.
Like someone said earlier in here: I don't mind dropping a hundred dollars on a unique sculpt and costume, but this has nothing stand out to merit the tag.

Well, KIND of disappointing, to be quite honest. I mean, they already announced a repaint - the "Cobra Officer" - fairly recently. This is a nice looking figure but I kind of wish they had sat on the mold/design for a while and released this down the road sometime. It'd be a perfect SDCC (or whatever) exclusive.
I pre-ordered it, but I may cancel it down the road, especially since there's no exclusive (yet?) and shipping from Sideshow to Canada is so expensive. I kind of want to get every one of these, but I might just decide to wait and get it from a board member or something after its release.
It's only a matter of time now. If they can make a sad repaint/retool like the Bazooka Trooper, i'm sure a "Sniper Trooper" won't be far off.
I'm surprised Hasbro NEVER did up a trooper in black like this. The closest example I can think of is the Action Force "Hunter" character who was a repaint of a Cobra Officer and was actually a good guy who was a member of the SAS.
I have picked up some of the recent bootleg RAH Cobra Troopers in black which are of a very high quality. This reminds me of them quite bit.

Pre-ordered him... a really nice trooper, but Sideshow is killing the wallet. They are releasing one every month now with my Cobra Officer and the throne environment due out before the end of the year. Timber withe the Waypoint environment should be in my hands on Monday. I agree it's like a "repaint" for Sideshow to do this, and I really like the figure, but we need some more Joes to even things out. Sideshows coming out so fast is taking me out of the 3 3/4 game right now, except for some select figures. In my opinion, Sideshows really are the ultimate Joes.

To those of you in Canada, there are some sites that have (mostly) pretty good deals on Sideshow stuff (well at least one does). PM if you're interested. It may take a little longer than directly ordering from Sideshow, but it's worth it.
As for me, my Cobra troopers are finally arriving either today or Monday, and I picked up the Cobra Commanders and Snake Eyes. Since I'm not buying 3 3/4" anymore, I can justify these guys.
Sideshow has stated they're doing Firefly and Beachhead...plus they've got the dioramas and whatnot coming too (plus environments). I think they're doing a pretty good job so far. They know everyone likes to troop build, and at $100 you can get one of each or multiples of certain guys. I bought two Cobra troopers, but I'll probably only get one of every other trooper...
Here's hoping the next SS GI Joe is a Joe though...preferably Beachhead (or Scarlett).

Are you fucking kidding me? You collect GI Joes and you say that Hasbro makes lackluster figures? Or are you going to say that's irony too? I don't pay $30 for GI Joes because I can pay $8 for something that may not be in your top tier bullshit, but is fun and look good enough for the price point.
I know I'm opening myself up to the argument of price increases, but let's just ignore that for the sake of not getting into it.
It would most definitely kill this line. Not everyone pays $30 for figures on ebay, because not everyone can afford to. I don't understand how sideshow making 3 3/4 inch figures for $30 kills the GI JOE Hasbro line please explain? Sideshow takes it's time and creates awesome well done 12inch figures as is and their workmanship would be superior to Hasbros figures on any 3 3/4 scale figure if they ever did them. They even come up with original figures like this Sniper and Hasbro can't even be bothered to do so? The only risk Hasbro would run is loosing high end collectors who value the work Sideshow does to make these types of figures (or 3 3/4 figures for that matter). Honeslty with the lack of support that Hasbro is throwing for ARAH due to ROC stuff, a different manufactuer who wants to produce figures of this magnitude is needed, and I see no one other than sideshow that has the inclincation. More power to em if they ever do em, and if they do.... will definelty get my $30 per figure....

At Sideshow's current rate of inflating the costs of their items if they made 4" figures they would be in the $30-40 price range. Too rich for my blood (and I think most people out there), but to you millionaires knock yourselves out !

Yeah, I stopped buying the 3 3/4" earlier this year. Blowtorch was my last. I even skipped the Cobra Island stuff (somewhat regrettably, since I was waiting forever for Mindbender). I moved, packed it all away and now just display 12" (same goes for Star Wars). I don't regret it, especially since the Rise of Cobra stuff pales in comparison to Real American Hero for me.

You do not have to be a millionaire to enjoy these that is silly...it's just 12 Joe figures (or less if you count the gas/shipping/additional figures form a full case you may or may not want you end up with just to get the one figure, you pay to get them) or 12-15 stops at Starbucks a month, 8-10 times of going to a nice restruant for dinner a month Beer runs or cigrettes etc. Just depends on what your priorities are on. I cancelled my premium level HD ($100/month) TV stations to have extra funds ever so often for one of these. Not like they release them every freaking other day...plenty of time to save between releases.

These figures have 30 points of articulation. With that many points of articulation, how is new figure going to be different that what's already out there?
I'm the first to admit, Sideshow is vastly overpriced, (especially C.C.'s throne.) unfortunately they get away with it because the product is hot.
My only complaint is that since Sideshow is charging so much for the figure, is the COBRA ensign should be an actual patch.
Say what you will about the COBRA sniper, that figure is a better dollar value than DC Direct's Wonder Woman will ever be.

These Sideshow figures are extremely expensive but they look so cool! My kids and I just sit there and look at them on display. I see that glassy-eyed look in their eyes and think that if my dad had some of these back in the day when I was a little GI Joe collecting machine (still am), I probably would have died and gone to heaven. Thus, in my case, the kids and I enjoy hours of fun putting these deluxe figures on display and occasionally we might even include them among our play figures (read that as, careful kids or daddy will kick your butt).
When I was a kid, I'd save every penny and gladly blow it at the local stores on Joes... Now you can't buy them all but the kid in me can't pass up these sideshow beauties either. I'll let you grown-ups debate the ethical dilemma of Sideshow's exorbitant pricing, but consider this: Would Duke let mere money stand in the way of recruiting a deluxe Joe team member from Sideshow? Would Cobra Commander let mere financial obstacles impede his plans to own as many awesome figures? What does the kid in you say? All I can see is my children (and myslef) all goggley-eyed and smiled every time one of these cash cows comes in the mail.
(As for you negative nay-sayer types: Good grief, I am beginning to wonder if some of the wives/girl-friends of the hopelessly addicted collectors are writing some of the stuff on these forums)! Yo Joe - The kid in me is signed up to get one!

The Kid in me can't justify the ridiculously high price tag. :)

I believe other than the rifle the head is different, haven't compared to others but read on other forums that it is indeed different.
It's definitely a different head sculpt. I have the Trooper and his eyes suggest he's about to go on a PCP induced killing spree. Whereas the sniper has a calm, albeit nefarious look in his eyes.

I think these things are awesome. The Crimson Cobra Commander, Cobra Trooper, and Sniper are just killer, and I'd love to own them. However, they are just plain overpriced.
