Sideshow said teh pricing of the Joe figures is $79.99.

Discuss.

I, for one, unless they make a PERFECT Snake Eyes, am not going to buy a single one at that price.

Well, that's what it costs for the kind of work Sideshow does.

What do you think they should be, $29.99?

Personally, I have no interest in these figures, because I don't collect in the 12" scale. But for those who do, I'm glad Sideshow is making Joe figures and I hope ya'll enjoy 'em.

I dont think I'd buy one at 80. 50 I would have, but I can't see spending that much on a doll.

Star Wars figures are in the $50-70 range, depending.

We got hosed...

I was going to buy 3 but at that price I'll have to think about even getting one.

If their Cobra Commander turns out well I might crack for it.

Star Wars has a much bigger built in audience and market. More SW pieces can be made and moved. That's why they have a lower price, not because the people at Sideshow are out to screw us.

You know, I think it will be like this...
The ones hasbro will create will be like the spy troops one we already got, the slideshow ones will be like the crewcut edition joes. Just a hunch...

Same here. Although, even if I wanted these I could not afford them. I'll be lucky to get the rest of the 25th figures this year, including...um...several BATs and Vipers (and HISS drivers and Televipers and...).

I am also not into collecting the 12 inch figures. I have enough money and time and space invested in the small joes. The price also has alot to do with it...My wife would kill me if i spent more money on the 12 inch figs...

Eh, 12 inch figs are not my forte at all.
Kudos to those who buy them (or can afford to)
As for me, I am staying with 3 3/4...

If their stuff looks up to par with SW figures, it still isnt worth 80 bucks.

I have a few 12" figs, I have 4 Hall Of Fame ones they released in the 90's (Snake Eyes, Duke, Stalker Cobra Commander) which are awesome, and a figure of a Japanese Kamikaze pilot...

I would consider buying maybe one of these, it really just depends on whether they look good enough to spend $80 on, and for me it'll be more like $100 'cause I'll have to pay shipping charges...

I have lots of the Sideshow SW figures. Most of them are amazing, but they do have their share of misses. I was really looking forward to getting at least a couple of figures, but that price point is way too high. Sideshow used to claim that we paid more for Star Wars because Lucasfilm charged so much for the license. Now we have Hasbro's original main line figures and the price increases!? I am very disappointed.

I will consider getting Flint, but only if he looks absolutely amazing (I was kind of underwhelmed by the Hasbro 12 inch version, but I will get that one since it won't cost an arm and a leg). I can't afford anything more than that right now, I'm afraid :(

I'm not a 1/6 scale fan but I did preorder the 1/6 Takara Batman Begins that also comes with a swappable Bruce head and pre batsuit for $165. It is a reissue, the original came out a few years back that people paid as much as $400 after it was OOP and also retailed for about $165. I also preordered the Hot Toys Predator (Wolf) from AVP:R for $140. These will be my only 1/6 scale...I hope. At first I would not allow myself to get these, but after reading some reviews and seeing some pix, I just caved in and went ahead and preordered it. As for the gi joe 1/6 scale, it does not interest me now, the 3 3/4 figures are good enough for me. Hopefully.

I have that original Batman Begins figure from Takara. Not to get you too excited, but it is the greatest, most incredible action figure I've ever owned. The sculpt, the accessories, the costume, and the poseability are near perfect. I blame this figure for getting me into the expensive world of 1/6 figures in the first place.

I don't normally collect 12" figures anymore, wanted to get 2 each at around $50, but will now only get one, unless I see a good deal on ebay. I just hope there aren't exclusives, cuz then I might definitely have to get 2, just not directly from SS.

I am hoping this line will bring success and they can start making some amazing statues!!

I originally pre-ordered him from BBTS for $165. I thought that was too expensive at the time.

There's no way I'm gonna dish out $79.99 + tax on a '12 figure.. I don't care how good it looks or all the nice packaging or accessories it comes with.. that's waaaay too much.

But to all you rich guys with money to burn.. have at it.. :D

my 10 cents....

I bought my brother the 12" Rambo III from sideshow for christmas and that thing is awesome. It's got this rubber skin that covers the figure and make it look real, with the exception of the wrists you can't see any of the joints. Veins, muscles, scars that stuff looks real, and the accessories are amazing. His bow actually works and has movable parts along with 4 or 5 arrows with differant heads. All of the weapons are highly detailed and most have movable parts, that thing is just bad ass. If that's what they have in mind for GI Joe than I'll be getting them all.

Wow...too rich for my blood... But hey, if you love 'em, what the hell, why not? I mean, I did buy 20th anniversary Optimus Prime for $80... Me? I'm more than happy getting my 25th Anniversary fix, lol! If that Rambo is any indicator of how the Joes will look, they will indeed rock hard!

That is the Hot Toys Rambo. Sideshow is just a distributor for them. Sideshow will be more like the star wars figures, nice but not as nice as the hot toys and cheaper too.

Wow, that's way too expensive for me! I love the detail Sideshow has in their figures, both in the face sculpt and the outfit and guns and stuff but I'm too used to paying under $10 for a carded GI Joe figure, or even $20 for a 12" doll. $80 for one doll is crazy!

The Sideshow products are well worth the usually heft price tag in my opinion. I've got a few of them, one of which is the $350 Lord of Darkness from Legend that is worth every penny. Their stuff is just flat out a work of art, the quality is top notch (real cloth, etc.). Assuming the designs of this line are my preference, I could see getting the entire line. The teaser commercial is pretty cool too.

Something else about the rambo figure. Hot toys has been "helping out" sideshow with alot of newer products lately :) Like their indy figure, and the hobbits. They've given them alot of pointers on how they do things, and the first thing to come from this colabotration is the New body used on Indy and the hobbitss. i think the joes are going to be more akin to Indy, than the current star wars line.

I'm primarily a 1:6 collector these days. In that realm, $80 is pretty inexpensive, and if the Joe stuff is on par with the latest Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Indiana Jones stuff Sideshow is putting out it will be worth every penny. Add in some Dragon and Hot Toys weapontry and equipment and these will be truly amazing.

SPeaking of, what up, Lerath! Nice to see a Freak over here.

Star Wars figures are now in the $80-100 range. They started out at $49-54 and slowly went up. I knew the Joes were going to be around $80 so that is not a shock. If you want them pick and choose, that is what I know do with Star Wars 12" figures.

I'm not a big fan of the 12" or 1/6 scale of figures. Mostly because they milk one body mold for all the figures regardless of height or build. I'm not necessarily against spending $80 for a figure but it has to be damn near perfect for me to pull the trigger.

Then you haven't been keeping up with the Sideshow product. They have varying sizes...small, regular and large. They even have used a "Big Boy" one that is beefier and tall.

Sideshow Collectibles G.I. Joe News
Posted by D_Martin on May 20, 2008 at 05:51 PM CST:
Collectors eager to see what Sideshow has up their sleeves with the upcoming G.I. Joe collectibles won't have long to wait. SSc is finishing up the prototype of the first figure in the series and plans on revealing it later this month. As always, keep an eye on CTR for more information on this and all the other cool stuff they will be revealing soon (except that very, very cool Vader figure, which you'll be seeing on Rebelscum very soon).

Can't wait. But sideshow has been sort of hit-&-miss for me lately. (I cancled my padme, imp.officer, ben) But i dropped a ton on the Jabba and Dias... so I guess I'll have to wait and see. If (big IF) they're good enough then $80 + s/h isn't too much to ask.

just wasn't crazy about it. and for the $$$ then I really gotta be "Car-Azy" about it. I'm just tired of the 'blank-staring-into-space' look SS tends to give everyone. For the money I spend (or even a few $$$ more) I would like a swappable head. That way fans of 'non-emotional' figures get theirs, and I get my 'screaming-mad-at-the-world' Darth Maul.
