Inside the Dragon Fly Scarlett and Hi-Tech frantically try to stabilize Rex. They are heading for the International Walter Reed Medical Center.

Cut To Day:

Still unconscious, Rex lies in a quarantined hospital bed. Every inch of his body covered in blue viscous burn gel. Duke looks in on Rex through a thick wall of plastic when General Hawk shows up. Right to the point Hawk starts to explain what the purple substance was. Destro and his team created 'Nanomites'- microscopic metal eating termites. The weapon to end all weapons. The chemical burns that Rex suffered are from the heat reaction when the metal breaks down, 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. Duke breaks and tell Hawk the team should have been warned while Hawk tells Duke he had no idea that Destro had this weapon. Duke very pissed at this point says someone knew. Someone did.

Break to General Flagg's Office

Duke and the rest of the team stand before Flagg who is extreamly critical of the mission and the destruction of the Nanomites. Duke defends his actions as a heated debate takes place that in the end was a waist of time. Flagg already has his mind made up. For disobeying a direct order and costing the nations weapons program dearley, I expect a resignation from you and each of your team members by tomorrow or you can expect a notice of dishonorable discharge by tomorrow afternoon.

Later on that day in Rex's Hospital Room

Duke enters Rex's room to find him conscious, in pain and dissfigured. Rex sees the shock on Duke's face and starts to speak with a now raspy and guttural voice "my vocal chords got burned up, this thing's eating me alive. They have a short chat about his condition and Duke does not let him see what his face looks like in the mirror. Rex then changes the topic and tells Duke to Quit the Bullshit and tell him what happened with Flagg! Duke explains the team got a Forced Discharge - Let us keep our rank and record. But gave us the clean boot into the street.

Rex's heart rate skyrockets! They sent us in there unprepared! They could have warned us! They did this to me! And now they are going to bust us out! Rex continues on his outburst ripping out his IV as the medical team rushes in to dose Rex to calm his anger as they usher Duke out of the room.

Andrews Airforce Base, Maryland

One-by-one, the Joes approach the Supply Sergent handing over their IDs and weapons as they are discharged. The supply Segent says some words of injustice as they talk about Rex.

Back at the Medical Center

Duke and Scarlett have a chat with Rex's physician who says that he is concerned about Rex's Mental Deterioration. Then Rex wakes up from his last outburst to find Duke again at his side. Rex tells Duke Something's wrong with his mind. I feel like I'm possessed. i'm thinking terrible thoughts. I don't know who I am. Duke blows it off and tells Rex that he will be fine with time and takes Rex's hand to show the fading X Scars and tells Rex to think back "To Hell And Back" Remember..................... As Rex Fades back to sleep.

A tinted blacked out Range Rover idle in the parking lot nearby.

A sultry brunette in a long black leather coat and bright red lipstick watches Duke walk by to his car and leave. A beat later she steps out of her SUV and heads toward the hospital. We see her take off her long coat to reveal a Nurses uniform. She enters as Rex lies asleep, the Baroness takes out huge syringes and reaches for his IV and inserts the contents.

The next Day:
The Joe team is seen sitting around talking about what has gone down. Snake Eyes and Scarlett have a fight. Then suddenly Duke gets a call from the medical center, Rex is missing. The team goes to see what has gone down at the hospital when they meet up with Rex's doctor. He can not explain what happened but points out that strange syringes and unknown trace amount of drugs were found by the bed. They were not from this center. They then break to Rex's apartment where they meet up with his landlord who tells the team he ran off without paying the rent but understands why. He would have done the same thing with a woman like that around his arm. The Joe team does not understand why or who the woman is? The Joe team then leads a mission to break into headquarters to use their top secret computers to track Rex down. They find phone numbers and trace plane tickets to Paraguay?

Break to Destro's New Headquarters.

Pitch Black, the thunderous sound of roaring water in the distance fills the room. Suddenly, a bright spotlight turns on shooting down on a man standing in the middle of a huge room. The man is wearing a heavy black suit with the hood up, hiding his face.

A voice in the dark starts to speak: Welcome, soldier I trust your travels were comfortable enough?

Rex speaks in his raspy tone - Long enough for me to wonder who was paying for first class and who wants to see me get stronger?

Destro: Lets just say that we have a common interest and perhaps a common enemy. You see im looking to fill a position and I understand you have run into a career "hurdle". With your combat experience and intimate knowledge of the tactics and strategy of G.I. Joe, you are the ideal canidate to lead my army. Rex ask Destro there are 50 men you could get for this job why me? Destro reply out of those 50 men only you have been bitterly betrayed by your government.


Suddenly the lights dim and Blue Shirts start to attack Rex. Rex makes short work of these men and the fight ends with Destro approaching clapping his hands. Excellent work People call me Destro as he steps into the light. He then points out the Baroness and starts to talk about Rex's new Code name "A name worthy of a warrior, we shall call you Cobra!"

Meanwhile the GI Joe Team makes prep for an unofficial mission to see what is going on down there. They fill Hawk in and set out.

Back at Destro's Base

Destro and the Baroness Escort Cobra Through the vast complex. As they walk we get a first glimpse of Destro's Super Soldiers ( Bodies bulked up by gene doping and other performance enhancing drugs) They pass by rooms filled with medical personnel testing the Army: Pain Threshold, Sleep Depravation Ect..... Untill they come upon a state of the art operating room. Inside and older bearded man, Doctor Bender prepares a hospital bed for Rex.

Cobra, meet Doctor Bender our chief of Medical Operations. It was his drugs that got you back on your feet. Bender speaks to Rex and tells him they are going to start a much more Dramatic Treatment. The Doctor opens a refrigerator drawer with bags full of green tinged blood.

Cobra: And my face? The scarring?

Destro: In due time. For now, let your scars remind you of your betrayal.

Hours later:

Cobra lies unconscious on a hospital bed. Twenty transparent tubes run into his left arm. Twenty more run out of his right. Doctor bender turns on an ominous machine. Cobra's red blood cells begin to drain out of his body. The opposite pump a strange cocktail into his veins. Blood Plasma, green glowing liquid.

Behind his closed eyelids, Cobra's eyes Twitch Severely as his body begins to change. Destro stands over him watching with closed fist dreaming of crumbling cities....

I don't like the whole "Rex" thing too much but what I always DID like from this draft is the concept of Destro being ultimately responsible for the creation of Cobra.

Eventually, "the man who would be Cobra" probably defies Destro's commands (different views) and ultimately turns his own organization against him.
