View Full Version : So... it's gonna be more on the sci-fi / fantasy side.

While I was personally hoping for a realistic take, I'm totally up for a "high altitude" sci-fantasy flick.

I'm saying it's gonna be like this from reading CIAD's intel. Here:

Latest G.I.Joe Live Action Movie Intel from Toy Fair:

*CGI imagery: Scenes of Neo Vipers in red costumes shooting rockets at the Joes in a battle scene in a downtown city!

*Duke & another team member shown in Sigma Style powersuits in a battle scene going through the city, battling the Neo Vipers!

*All kinds of concept art for vehicles shown! - Sharc & many others! All look incredible....ESPECIALLY THE NIGHT RAVEN!

*Destro's MARS Base Shown!

*A Firebat Concept (?) was shown

*Updated version of the G.I.Joe Polar Battle Bear!

*Hi Tech shown inside of a Command Vehicle

*Concept art of Scarlett's Uniform shown via CGI, and looked GREAT!

*Really excited about Cast & Crew, The entire team behind the scenes is doing it right, listening to the fans and making sure that a lot of effort goes in to the film! It's going to BLOW EVERYONE AWAY!

*Pictures of Baroness' vehicle shown!

*No one will be dissapointed with the updated look of the classics!

I pray to the film gods that it won't be too "extreme" but it's Sommers we're talking about and that's what he does.

Extreme flicks can be good but it depends a lot on who's directing them. Here's hoping the Van Helsing days are behind!

One thing's for certain: we're likely to hear a lot less bashing now, because if the take won't be too realistic, then a lot of stuff can be adapted more easily. I mean... neo vipers??? WTF

SO... what are your thoughts? Afraid it may end up being too cheesy or extreme? Or are you cautiously optimistic and curious about the route they're going for.

Judging from CIAD's report, one thing's for sure... we're in for a lot... A LOT of movie toys.

See, I don't mind a bit of a sci-fi feel to things, given that it's set 10 years in the future.

Most certainly!

I was totally expecting this. What I didn't expect was an all-out sci-fi film (from the looks of it).

Hopefully CIAD or DESTRO will give us further updates on this.

Check this out:

You can expect to see many geographic locales in the G.I.Joe movie as the story takes you all over the world including the arctic, the bottom of the ocean, northern sierra, Moscow, Washington D.C. and more. Finally, we can expect to see next generation military equipment in the film, for example a chief scene in Paris where the characters will be using next generation military equipment that will allow them to run faster and jump higher than normal people.

A little Sigma 6 influence perhaps?

A little Sigma 6 influence perhaps?

Personally, I hope they keep the movie far, far away from Sigma 6. And by "far", I mean "light years away".

That would be preferred but this news seems to make it at least sound like there is a bit of Sigma 6 influence. I'll be okay with it unless they end up being called "Sigma Suits" or something.

I'm in the "wait and see" mode! I'd like there to be a healthy balance of reality and sci fi.

You know, powered exo-skeletons are being research now anyway, and some have enough working for them to allow people to run in them and allow the wearer to lift extra weight (up to 205 lbs, according to quick, dirty, and usually unreliable research on Wikipedia).

At any rate, while we're not 10 years away from Marauder Powersuits a la Starship Troopers (the novel, not the movie which should've been subtitled "Doogie Howser, S.S.) it's not unreasonable to toss in power suits of some sort.

as long as we don't change the size of the figures...lets stick to the 3.75" inch fiugures and vehicles.

The concept stuff sounds okay...amazing and awesome ....not really...but we will see.

If I were them, I would never say "10 years into the future..."

I'd just "let it be" - just don't say when this is happening. It's sometime in the near future and that's it.

Cuz, as much as 2001 (Kubrick) is a masterpiece, ya gotta admit many felt let down when the real year went by and we had no PAN-AM jets taking us to some base in orbit! :p

So... in order to avoid such "let downs", they should just shut up and let the viewer speculate on when this could actually take place.

I thought we'd be travelling on flying cars by now. And to think the Transformers animated film starts with "It is the year is 2005..."!

I got to be honest, the super powered suits thing sounds ridiculous. They didn't go that far with them in Sigma 6.

The first I heard was in a review when it mentioned Breaker had a computerized surveillence suit, which I thought was cool for the character.... especially if he piloted small hovering surveillence equipment with it.

I'm really going to be let down if snake eyes is in a powered suit. If there was any character that didn't need an update, it was him. He's badass as a human and the onlyt super powered suit I'll accept is something like metal gear.

mmm, odd for me to say, but it reads like the movie may be better then what i thought. the sci-fi will add some excitement to it.

Just say NO to power suits!!!

Maybe Snake Eyes will have more of a "stealth-tech" suit.

Like, say... as if the F-117 was translated into a commando outfit :D

That would still be too close.

I don't think an appearance of powered suits in an action sequence means the movie is based on Sigma Six. That's overreacting.

Sorry, this sounds T-e-r-r-i-b-l-e. The more I hear, the less I like. Power-suits=LAME. It should be so easy to make a great movie using this existing GI Joe mythos, Instead it's going to get all wacked out into something stupid and unrecognizable. Just call it "GI Joe Extreme" and be done with it.

LEts see, in the original GI Joe we had:

-BATS
-Serpentor
-All the vehicles

But somehow, most of the soldiers were wearing fatigues, t-shirts, and uniforms into battle. Power suits, like it or not, are consistent with the original Joe universe if we accept the level of technology shown in the show.

Certainly.

I'm not watching this if Robo-Joe isn't in.

My kind of problem with the direction the movie is going, that it's so apologetic.

The more I hear about this movie the less hopeful I am. Transformers really set the bar for adapting my childhood nostalgia into a movie.

Actually thats very true. The US military has been working on one for some time now and one was debuted a month ago in Tokyo at a tech expo.

I was hoping too for a dark toned-realistic Joe flick, but again, Sommers is for me the worst choice so far, it's just that he goes nuts with the stuff he does.

Supposedly, they're drawing from the comics rather than the cartoon, so hopefully, the lead will be flying.

Based off the script reviews, they are going to have things like laser or pulse rifles or something. And they will have jetpacks.

Based off the Toy Fair reports, they have suits that help them run really fast like the Flash through Paris.

I'm just worried about a "cool" combat scene with staind's "Get down with the sickness" blaring as joes are dodging bullets and killing neo vipers

A poor soundtrack could destroy this movie. I hope it's more like "Silent Interlude" and stealthy with ninjas and joes destroying cobra through great recon.

I think music is the last thing to worry about; Alan Silvestri has a fantastic track record and ought to do a great job.

Some of these story elements sound bizarre but they could be cool if they are done properly. I hope Sommers is the right guy. I am not a big fan of Van Helsing.
