View Full Version : Please help me name my custom toy line!!!!
So Im back in school, senior year....graduate in May....STOKED!!! Anyway, I got my first assignment in Senior Design class. I have to do a business package (logo, letterhead, envelope, etc) and construct several complete packages for a TOY STORE! Right up my f'n alley for sure!!!
So heres what I want to do. I want to design for a store that sells custom personalized action figures. So basically like build a bear, you can go into the store, pic out a head, body, etc....and you get a toy just like you. Then based on whatever you want to be (Army,Navy, Firefighter, Chef, Chargers fan, etc) the packaging and cardart is made to match.
I want to make it along the lines of classic GIJOE packaging....but I dont want to use the name GIJOE for a company name. I cant for the life of me think of anything....except lame stuff like Action All Stars...(blah). Any ideas???? Thanks so much guys!!! Sam

Someone on the spawn boards was opening a store and everyone said his screename would make a cool store name, but he didn't like it.. so with that, I offer it to you...

If you don't use it, I swear by some means, one way or another, I'm opening a store and using that as the logo.

If gearing towards kids, which would most likely be your main market, then, Pocket Pals, or if you want to go a little less "kiddy", then, Assembled Action. Just don't call it "AA" or you might attract some unwanted attention.

Figured Out is the name I always planned to use if I ever got into any type of action figure business, but since I have no motivation and will never do anything with it, you can have it.

Assembled Forces is good if all you're making are military customs, but doesn't really fit the scheme of football player or ice-cream man, or whatever other generic options there are lol

This made me think of another on: Go Figure! (exclamation point in the name).

What about doing something different than making the packaging look like the vintage GI Joe cards? The design industry is all about doing original work. Knocking off an existing style that's in the same genre (ie, action figures) is going to be looked down upon. If this were real, it would be a sure bet that Hasbro would have an issue with you using a similar design. Use this opportunity to create something unique. There's plenty of things you could come up with packaging wise. Since you're doing a build-a-figure store, come up with something that incorporates that idea on the packaging. That store concept is going to spawn plenty of ideas that could carry over to the packaging. You can look at different substrates, shapes, containers, etc for the packaging. This is an opportunity to ask yourself what you would do if you had an unlimited budget. Have fun with it!
Thanks guys!!! I defintely have my favorites. Ill post them up later.
Great advice GGPIKE....although Im not that worried about Hasbro having an issue with my design since Im not going into graphic design after I graduate.....but I like the idea of exploring other packaging ideas....which I was planning on doing. Im planning on doing something a little more elaborate than a card and bubble....I mostly just want to use the illustration and explosion (my version) that GIJOE cards use! ;)
