View Full Version : G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary SDCC Exclusive Gold & Silver DESTRO
DESTRO
05-30-2007, 10:24 PM
In 1982 Hasbro introduced a new line of products that changed the landscape of boys action figures:
G.I. JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO … which quickly became one of the most memorable toy lines of the 1980s. Not only is Hasbro commemorating the 25th anniversary with the release of a special edition series of A REAL AMERICAN HERO figures, but they are bringing you one of the coolest convention exclusives ever! There was a time when DESTRO briefly replaced his bad-to-the-bone suit with a very flamboyant outfit: dark and deadly DESTRO was now dressed in leopard skin. The unusual deco was given the go-ahead for production, and a few hundred of these garish guys made it into the world before Hasbro decided the deco was too over-the-top. The colors were toned down, and DESTRO was back to his usual black-clad badness. Because those leopard-skin figures are almost impossible to find, we've decided to give you a treat. We're bringing him back, just as briefly as before, for his tenth anniversary. At Comic-Con 2007, he'll be available in two versions for your viewing and collecting enjoyment, so grab both of them while you can!
G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary 2007 SDCC Destro will be limited to 5000 peices.

I thought that both figures would be the same except the face plate until I checked TNI and found the picture of the silver one. The price isn't too bad either at $9.99 each. Now if I can only find a way to get them. Looks like I may have to reconsider having my brother check HTS when and if they put them up.

I'm starting to think the same thing but the gold is just so different from the original Destro. I'm glad ComicCon is in the later part of July since it gives me time to save some money for them. I've changed my mind about the Transformers movie figures and plan on buying a lot Saturday so the extra time is good, that is assuming they don't release new 6" Titaniums Prowl and Soundblaster in July to take more of my money.
Damn it sucks being a huge Transformers fan and a G.I. Joe fan right now with so much coming out this summer. So much to buy, so little money to buy it with.

Exactly man. Doesn't help that both the conventions are close to each other, and a motion picture in between, and a cartoon soon afterwards, smack dab an anniversary line to collect, plus the usual marvel stuff and this year just HAD to be the 30th anniversary of star wars.:)
Looks like hasbro owns all our wallets guys.
This is the first pic I have seen of silver head destro. looks good! I won't be able to get it but I do look forward to the cobra 5 pack to get regular Destro.

i may go. its a 7 hr drive each way for me. i need to find out whats the limit on how many you can get before i make my final decision to see if its cost effective for me to go (im figuring 140 dollars just in gas for the trip). theres some fellow collectors i know that live in my area so im going to run it past them if we all want to carpool down there. anyhow either way im getting one of each for me. even if it means ebay. :)

You got it a lot worse than I do. I don't collect Star Wars, the Botcon set is too much for me, I don't know anything about the G.I. Joe convention set other than I won't get it either, haven't bought much Marvel stuff, and I'm very skeptical of the new Transformers cartoon and toys (based on the rumors and the teaser shots). If I was collecting all the stuff you seem to collect I would have to stop eating and cut off my lights. You are right that Hasbro owns both our wallets, at least as far as disposable income anyway.

I have seen somewhere that the limit is 2 each on figures and they mark the ticket you use to get in. I'm not sure if that is true because I thought I read last year that a lot of people were getting a lot of Nemesis Prime figures, who I have yet to get. I think Destro went to SDCC last year so maybe he can tell us.

If Destro makes it to HTS I hope they market it similar to the recent McLuke, send out the email the day they plan on making it available. I dont want a repeat of last years Nem Prime fiasco

The Limit was 1 of each Per Day and they scan or punch your badge so they know who was already inline.. Thats why its not worth a plane ticket just to get exclusives. The key is to but a bunch of 1 day passes and grab as many as you can.
I might go this year for 1 day fly in on friday and leave the next day after I collect exclusives, and take Pics of the new Joes.

Actually, that particular move of theirs has almost enraged me. I read the email telling me to hurry up and buy it now only to find out that it said coming soon. I check back later, same thing. I check again the next morning, still "coming Soon" (Not knowing that they'd already sold 300 someodd figures on the site) I call them around 5pm Sat. they tell me they don't have any more and don't know when their next shipment is....it was 5 hours later and now they're sold out  If they do go to the HTS site, I do want an email, but I want it to tell me WHEN they'll go on sale, not to rush over to their site so I can wait all day as if I have nothing better to do than buy their toys

I got the email in the morning and left the page for Luke up and kept refreshing it til it said in stock. And it was still available on Sunday morning. It didnt sell out til the late afternoon, on my computer anyhow.
