Eli will choke, bet on that!

The only real question is how far into next season can the Pats continue to dominate.

I don't know if the Pats win or force Eli to play poorly that would qualify as Eli choking -- the Pats are undefeated for crying out loud and are favored by 2 TD's. nothing any Giant can do today can qualify as choking, they are in a no lose situation as far as public perception of their performance goes because they aren't expected to win. the only team and players that can choke today are the Pats. bring the smack, but join it with logic.

Did anyone see on ESPN that Coach Bilacheat got caught again?

As noted above, the only team that can choke today is the Pats. No one expected the Giants to get here today. Everyone demanded that the Pats do it.

being that i live 45 minutes from Foxborough...you would think i'd be elated.

in fact not only do i not watch football ( haven't in about 15 years) i think it's a lame sport.

but i can appreciate what the Pats are doing and i won't knock them. I just wish people knew there are other sports out there than basketball (awful), baseball (cry-baby millionare's that cheat and really don't do much) hockey and football (boring)

SMACK.

OK maybe I shouldn't have said they were going to choke. I guess I should have said that Eli won't play up to his ability, because in sports proper grammer is a must.

I just think it's funny, two months ago the fans were ready to chase Eli out of NY. Now everyone loves him.

That's what always annoyed me about sports in general. Everyone roots for the underdog and when you do well they want you to fail. I don't get it.

Moss hasn't been this rested since game 1 of the regular season. Pats have 20 players with superbowl experience. Pats like to cheat.

Just a tad bit. Although the optimistic side in me is hoping for a Giants V, the realistic side of me knows that the Patriots are following destiny. They can't lose this game.

That being said, most of the pressure is on them to ensure that the game is one.

If the Pats do win, I think DZ's score of Pats 41
Giants 28 is a bit more realistic.

I will refrain from saying the Pats choked, because I don't think they did. they simply got their asses kicked today.

the Pats were a very good team, but they were never close to being the greatest team ever, and this game can drop them right out of the discussion where they belong into the history books of a lot of good teams that didnt win. heck, not much difference between them now and the 1998 15-1 Vikings who didn't win it either.

and yes, the Pats got their asses kicked. the score doesn't have to be a blow out for the opposing team to get their ass kicked. when you hold a team to 14 points that averaged 30 +, and put the QB on his back all game, you've kicked that team's ass regardless of the score.

And let me just say, on behalf of Giants fans everywhere, PLEASE do not change your opinion of Big Blue. When the 2008 season begins:

1) Pick us to finish last in the division and miss the playoffs.

2) If we do happen to make the playoffs by virtue of luck and playing in the obviously inferior NFC, remember, we won't win a single postseason game.

3) If we do manage to win a postseason game, remember that it's just because we play in the obviously inferior NFC, and that we'll just be one final stepping stone for whatever AFC squad the football gods see fit to use in crushing us.

4) There is no room on a Giants bandwagon. There are more than enough fans in the NY metro area, in adition to the transplants scattered throughout the world, and being hated, booed, and doubted is preferable to popularity. This goes double for all the phony Patriots "fans" who've never even been to Massachusetts, let alone a Patriots game.

On a side note, shouldn't Justin Tuck have been MVP? He had one hell of a game; 5 tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. Still, it's not the "sexy" choice that the QB was.

On a side note, shouldn't Justin Tuck have been MVP? He had one hell of a game; 5 tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. Still, it's not the "sexy" choice that the QB was. Had this discussion with a coworker last week. He asked me to predict the MVP, and I told him it would be Eli Manning, but that someone else would really deserve it. Someone on the defensive line, Antonio Pierce, someone in the secondary, whomever. Yeah, Justin Tuck was as good a candidate for MVP as anyone, but Ross, Webster, Wilson, Pierce, Mitchell, Umenyiora, Strahan, Cofield, or even Alford could have won it on defense, and Tyree was another candidate on offense. In the end, Eli was more deserving than I imagined he would be, if only because of that final drive in the game and the Manning-to-Tyree play.

Now I just hope Daniel Snyder keeps his filthy paws off Spagnuolo.

ok this is the post I was waiting on. CC you have the biggest right to gloat on the boards. I couldn't wait to see you be the mouth peace for every last Giants fan. The Giants earned that victory. But to be honest everybody watching it had to worry every single time NY had the ball I expected a turn over. Every single time Brady would throw the ball I expected Moss to catch it for a huge play. Right up to the last play I expected something and even with one second left on the clock and everybody rushing on the field I wasn't secure. Anybody who doesn't think NE is the best team in the NFL is only fooling themselves. Not taking anything away from NY but the better team lost the game. Regardless of what any of us may think of the Patriots ( in my case it's the coach I hate) they are one of the best teams ever. But this is then NFL and regardless of how good you are or what you do you can loose any given Sunday.

This was the best Super Bowl I've seen in a long time. It was AWESOME seeing the Patriots go down. NY should have beaten them the last time they played them.

they are one of the best teams ever, right up there with the 15-1 1998 Vikings who didn't win it all either. that is why I am glad they lost, because even had they won, they wouldn't have been the best team ever, which we would have had to hear they were. the team they were most comparable too, had they won, would have been the 1999 Rams. but there are a handful of Super Bowl teams that would have wiped the floor with this Patriots team; the 85 Bears, 89 49ers and 92 Cowboys come to mind. heck, I think even the 2000 Ravens would have beaten them -- if the Giants held them to only 14 points, the Ravens may have held them to 10. it isn't the pretty pick to beat the Ravens as a better team as this offensive juggernaut, but time and time again history has proven defense wins championships, and the Ravens were simply dominating, even if one dimensional.

yes, from the season long standpoint, the better team didn't win. but that is why you have a playoff and a championship game, because the better team in those games have to win, and the Giants are the better team.

02-06-2008, 10:50 AM
But to be honest everybody watching it had to worry every single time NY had the ball I expected a turn over. Because they had turned it over so often in the postseason. Oh, wait... Comparing how the Patriots played in the playoffs to how the Giants were playing, I really don't see how the outcome could have been that surprising. Tom Brady had more passes intercepted in the conference title game than Manning had in the entire postseason.

Anybody who doesn't think NE is the best team in the NFL is only fooling themselves. Not taking anything away from NY but the better team lost the game. Regardless of what any of us may think of the Patriots ( in my case it's the coach I hate) they are one of the best teams ever. Oh, please. They don't even deserve to be mentioned among the best teams ever. They're barely any better than the 1998 Vikings. The best team in the NFL walked away with the Lombardi trophy. That's the team that won three playoff games on the road against division winners. That's the team that knocked out the NFC's #2 seed and the #1 seed from both conferences, holding those teams' "big play" offenses to an average of 17 points. That's the team that played against the best their opponents had to offer, not a banged up QB on two bad knees with the league's leading rusher MIA, on the road to Arizona. New England struggled against weak competition - at home, no less - in the playoffs. They lost most of their mystique Thanksgiving weekend, when they nearly lost to the Eagles' backup QB, and followed that by nearly losing to the Raven's backup QB. Two weeks later, they found themselves struggling against the Jets.

Being "the best team" is about a lot more than having impressive stats on offense. It's about stopping the run, defending the pass, and getting to the quarterback, too. It's also about protecting your QB, not just when you're running up the score against teams in the soft AFC East, but when a championship is actually on the line. Being the best regular season team of all time doesn't mean a damn thing.

But you go ahead and keep thinking the "best team" lost its most important game of the season, and hopefully opposing coaches and players will share that mindset when the 2008 season begins.

If you ever looked at the history of the NFL. #1 offense teams have less chances to win then the defense. For instance, 1984 Dolphins, 2000 Rams, 2002 Raiders, 2007 Patriots .... These are just a fews example that was taken from the past 20 years.

I am a 49ers fan, and I was clearly remembered 1990s rivalry between the Cowboys and 49ers. 49ers was always got crushed during NFC championship games. The main reason is their(Cowboys) defensed was ranked #1 and 2 in the league. Guess what they have a great pass rusher - Charles Haley #94.
There is no supprised that the outcome of this game was favorable to the Giants. Statistics still has not proven to be wrong.

But you go ahead and keep thinking the "best team" lost its most important game of the season, and hopefully opposing coaches and players will share that mindset when the 2008 season begins.

you know it pains me to agree with you but I have to. all year I felt the Pats were just too finesse on offense, and dependent upon quick outs to Welker or Brady having 4 to 5 seconds in the pocket to find open receivers downfield. meanwhile, the Giants had the best D line in football that just killed QB's all year, and when push came to shove the finesse Pats couldn't keep them out of the backfield. sure, that type of football may not be as pretty as big scores, but all you have to do is keep the other team from scoring as much as you and you win. The Giants were a better built team for the playoffs, and that is why they are the best team in the league at the end. the Pats, on the other hand, were built for success during a 16 game season.

ive been a giants fan all my life (Im 25) I remember when they beat the bills, but i was young and just a casual observer at that point. Since my teenage years i have become a huge sports fan and have never seen any of my teams win any championships at all. ( mets, islanders, giants, knicks.) I can honestly say that this was one of the best moments of my life. I watched with my grandpa and we were running around like little kids. Going to work the next day with all of the fans en route to the parade was surreal. I have been on cloud 9 since sunday. Its amazing how much joy a sports team can give you. I have never tasted this glory before and i must admit i have become addicted. I hope its not this long until the next time i feel this again.

Full disclosure: I am typing this while wearing my NY Giants championship sweatshirt. WHOOOOOO HOOOOOO

I also work for the NY Knicks and i believe if they ever win it will be even better. But that is wishful thinking at this point.

that would be the Giants best chance for a repeat wouldn't it? I mean if people start taking them seriously then they would loose the advantage they had this season. But now they are champions so they will have every team in the whole league gunning for them. No push over or easy win. No way baby bro is going to choke this time. Anything can happen. I mean their forth string receivers can catch the ball with their helmet! Look, I'm glad they won. And you have good reason to be smug right now. Live it up. Your team has the trophy to prove they had the finished the season better than any other team. New York made history but the funny thing about history is once it's made............ it's over.

Yeah that sucks, especially with the team moving and then winning. And Elway.
At least it will be so sweet when they finally win one.

New York made history but the funny thing about history is once it's made............ it's over. But it's not over, because the Giants are still champs. When free agency starts on February 29, when the draft begins on April 26, when training camp opens, when the first preseason game kicks off, and all through the regular season in 2008, they'll be the defending world champion New York Giants. They'll always be the winners of Super Bowl XLII, and since the Giants won that first one after the '86 season, 20 NFL franchises have gone without winning a championship (15 never have). Furthermore, they'll always be the team that knocked the smug little grins off the undefeated Patriots, and that's a beautiful thing to have over Boston.

Win your team wins the Super Bowl, even when the next season starts, it's never really "over".

Yeah that sucks, especially with the team moving and then winning. Two NFL teams have left Cleveland, only to win a Super Bowl title in another city, although it took the Rams a bit longer than it took the Ravens.

again don't get me wrong. Little could make me more happy in the NFL than to see cheating Bill loose. I loved the interview with him after the game. "were disappointed" For real? No kidding? I hate it for the team that they lost but I'm happy the coach is crying his eyes out over it. But remember the Giants may be champions and they might just be defending that title but in sports your only as good as your next game. Wins don't last forever.

Oh and thanks for bringing up the fact that twice the Browns traded or lost teams that went on to win a championship. Why don't you just bring up the drive? Or give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it. :P

if memory serves me right they were the only team in the NFL who had sole possession of first place in their division when he cut Kosar. Oh and Kosar went on to get one of those "forever" rings as a back up in big D that very same year. What's more he was cut because he was calling his own plays and the cheater didn't like that too much. But no that isn't why I hate him. I hate him because I feel like he was brought in to drive the U-Haul that was moving the team out of Cleveland. I also blame him for Reggie White not going to the Browns who were his original choice of teams to go to when he left Philadelphia and ended up in Green Bay.

as for "the fumble".............. no I didn't forget about that. Anymore old wounds you want to reopen? :)

Oh and Kosar went on to get one of those "forever" rings as a back up in big D that very same year. Yes, he did. I really thought Belichick was making a mistake when Bledsoe didn't get his starting job back once he recovered from his injury, and Kosar was what immediately came to my mind. They pulled it off against the Rams, though, and Tom Brady has obviously proven that he deserved his shot.

as for "the fumble".............. no I didn't forget about that. Anymore old wounds you want to reopen? I'd talk about the Cavaliers getting swept in the finals, but I couldn't care less about the NBA these days. You're not an Ohio State fan, are you? :)

No you see I live in the Memphis so considering we don't have a NFL team I had to pick my own. It kind of sucks with the NBA. I grew up a Lakers fan but Memphis got it's own team so I was stuck with the problem of staying with the team I've loved all my life or go to the home team. I had to say with what I grew up with.
