It was moving. All the speakers were good. What Rev.Sharpton said "he wasn't strange his situation was strange" made a lot of sense. MJ's daughter speaking at the end was really emotional.

Bad here. But I had already stolen my mom's Thriller tape by then, lol. I was so excited back then, living in Orlando, FL. I saw Captain EO the first week it came out.

I heard that the estimated cost of the extra police presence for crowd control was between 1.5 and 4 million dollars. Seeing as how that city and state are in such financial dire straights I wonder where that money is going to come from. Oh well, what ever it cost it sure did look like quite the event.

M-J was the thing when we were kids. I saw him live at jfk in 84 when the j5 were on the victory tour. When Usher sung his tribute, even though I hate Usher, I was fighting back tears. When Marlon spoke I couldn't help but cry. It was very moving.

I don't get it... all of the media attention has been nuts... I think they finally outdid themselves.
I also hate it when I see about 5 MJ headlines on CNN.com, then further down I see '8 US Soldiers killed in Afghanistan last 2 days'
1 of these stories deserves a lot more coverage than the other...

One day he's a total freak that molests little boys. Nobody gives a rats ass about him. Everybody talks bad about him & movies like Epic movie & Disaster movie constantly make fun of him.
Then he dies & all of a sudden he will be so missed & he was the greatest entertainer every & it's such a huge loss to humanity & we love him so much we just can't believe he's gone & can't live without him.
WTF people? I mean really! Talk about going to extremes! Where was all this love for the guy a couple weeks ago?????

MJ was arguably the greatest entertainer that ever lived. the only two that can rival the claim are the Beatles and Elvis, and neither had as wide and varied a fan base as MJ, which is what puts him over the top. the Beatles fall to third because they couldn't dance.

I'm on board with everything you said. I've said the same thing myself. Still as an artist the man made a huge impact. He was a big part of alot of our childhoods. No doubt he peaked very early still....He was the most famous person in the world in my lifetime. He was one of the first truely global brands & he always though outside the box.

my mom was watching it and crying. i couldnt figure out exactly what i thought or felt about that.
i think that if time has no beginning or end then it happens all at the same time and were all dead and just dont know it yet. you know, like every point of recognising consciousness is the only moment and every variation repeats itself over and over in the form of genetically infinite different forms all the while deja vu happens in a big spiral that eventually draws further and further out with the polarities of pleasant and negative experiences becomming more distant into the complexities of enormous gray areas then into white and then the black void of the center where it started to begin the cycle over again despite our best efforts not to notice it.
so if the time line is actually more of a pi type of grid with no lines and only different segments then nothing ever dies and most likely exists in several planes of existence at once.
making me feel very little about the entire concept of funerals.
i hope they play slayer's "god hates us all" album at mine.

last week, MJ was still the greatest entertainer that ever lived, he just wasn't relevant so nobody was talking about him. I'm not sure why those two simple dynamics are so confusing.

Things are bad right now, like the economy, the war and crazy random violence. People want to be upset and grieve about these issues, but if they do it makes them too real. We are a nation of escapists who escape from our fears and grief through television and entertainment. It is easier for people to show all of this emotion over someone they have never met than it is for them to deal with what is really bothering them in their own lives. If you are one of these people standing in a public city square crying with others you need to look deep down inside and figure out what you are really upset about and deal with that. You will be much happier for doing it.

Getting laughed out of every conversation we tried to have about him. I never stopped thinking he was the greatest entertainer ever. I never thought he molested boys, either. But I do think he was a socially inept person who believed his status as a humanitarian and entertainer would excuse his STRANGE behaviors and RETARDED personal actions. I mean...if he just didn't get why having prepubescent boys hanging out would freak people out and make them suspicious, sure, that was VERY naive.
But continuing to do it after the first trial? RETARDED, Mike.
But he made THRILLER.
THRILLER.

Like I've quoted before, time isn't linear, it's more like a wibbly wobbly, timey whimy....ball

From pedophile to saint. Great rehabilitation! It works!
Coverage and mourning of MJ is so far over board. It's obscene. The media have jumped off a cliff with no regard for common sense. MJ has knocked more pressing issues off the discussion table.
Kim Jong Il threatens america with nukes. We're so short-sighted and obsessed with MJ that a crazy dictator who starves his people, builds a vast arsonal, imprisons hundreds of thousands in gulags and extorts the world for food and energy could lob a few nukes while we're obsessing over a fallen celebrity!!!!!!!!!
BTW the Dear Leader has fired a few test misslles to break our attention away from MJ.

Yeah, because the good people at the Pentagon are glued to CNN and are too busy Moonwalking on their desks to notice what's going on.

I know it is sad, but unless Kim Jong starts singing and people can call in and vote for him, no one in this country is going to care what he does.
