What's with the "friend list" feature? How does that work. I have a friend request from someone on the board.
Also, are there no emoticons on the site? I'm used to seeing a list of them when I'm in the reply screen, but I see none.

The friends list can be used a couple of different ways. First, to add a friend, go to the members homepage and look for the befriend so and so button. Click it. You will be asked if you want to send them a friend invitation. If yes, go ahead and send it. It will be up to the recipient if they accept or not...
To accept friend invitations. You will notice the your notifications link on the main titlte bar to the right. Click that and look for friend invites. If it is highlighted, that means you have a friend request. Click it and you will come to a screen, blank for now but after accepting friends, they will show up here. Anyway, scroll down to the bottom of the screen. You should see a box with a member or members wishing to be friends with you. You will need to click the little box inside their box to accept or deny. If you don't click the box, nothing will happen. After that, your new friend should show up on your homepage shortly and that is all there is to it...
Let me know if you still need help...

As for the Smiles, in the reply section (Not the Quick Reply at the bottom of the page mind you, but on the page when you click "Post Reply") There is a white smiley face. Click this and you can see all the emoticons.
Here's a couple in the list:

Well I figured out the basics as to how to accept and give friend notifications, but my question was more in the nature of what do they do?
What does having someone on your friend list do?

I don't see the white smiley face. Is this site not firefox friendly? I can't imagine it wouldn't be in this day and age. But then I am using the ubuntu linux version.

Ok, for any other newbies wondering, I figured out why I can't select smilies.
The default setting for the board is "basic text", or text only. You can find this option under your user cp under "Edit Options". You need to set this for at least "standard" or you can't see the smiley icon necessary to choose smileys.

Sorry, that still doesn't tell me anything. Does that mean you guys use it to "hook up" ? I don't use myspace or facebook. I could go into a semi-long rant about why I don't use them, but I don't feel the need to offend anyone. (at least not anymore than I probably did)
Could you please be more specific?
