View Full Version : Resolute Snake Eyes *IN HAND* Pics and Review

While I'm not the insaniac (not that I blame him at all!) that paid $300 plus on Ebay for his Res SE, this is easily the most fun $50 I've plunked down on a Chinese test shot/product sample. This design is so full of "WIN!" that it makes me wonder why we haven't seen more stuff of this caliber before now. That being said, I sure am glad that it's here now, and the bonus of a great animated movie to go with, makes it even better. If ROC fails, Hasbro has got a completely winning incarnation of Joe to fall back on that should easily please fans of the property.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the first Snake Eyes that can actually hold his sword in this 2 handed grip without some part of the body looking un-natural or like it's about to break. Kudos on the design!!

Here are some basic pics of the figure without accs/gear. As you can see, the harness and belt are loose, but not really intended to be removable. Fine by me, less parts to try to keep up with while still allowing all the functionality that is needed.

Basic weapons layout. The scabbard was warped when I got it, and I tried to dip it in hot water to straighten it out resulting in the wavy finish you see here. Live and learn. Also, I'm not real sure what purpose the crampons serve here, but in nothing else you can add them to the Blizzard custom you were working on.

Some geared up shots, showing weapon placement and size. The rifle seems a bit dainty, but it most likely is really in 1/18th scale and my perception is off due to seeing the size of the older and larger weapons of the past.

A curiosity mostly, but as you can see this has the now famous "HM" markings, the current "H" brand that has been used lately, and a very weird sharpie code on the head.

Here are a couple of comparison shots to give you an idea as to overall size. The upper body and arms are a touch skinny, but well defined so they work well for a character who is supposed to be "ninja-style" physically fit. The overall sculpting and detail on this figure is outstanding, and this is easily the most bang I've ever gotten for my Chinese buying dollar. I can't wait to grab one of these off the shelf at retail!

wow, this could have been a perfect figure with a holster and pistol. Why does SE always get the shaft when it comes to a holster! Is it because of his sword and scabbard? Mold it on his leg already!

That figure is awesome.
I think the skinny aspect is great because SE was skinnier then the others, he had a more lithe and agile appearance.
I love that the scabbard sits on the belt, like in the cartoon.
Awesome figure.

not a bad figure. i like the head, but i would have preferred him to be wearing a bit more in the way of layers of clothing and gear. i guess the skintight spandex 'works' for the whole ninja theme... but it's not really my cup of tea. thanks for posting the detailed pics, by the way.

They'll probably give him a rifle like Resolute Duke in the end. (By the way- take that rifle, look at the peg on it. It fits the hole in the V3 Snake Eyes' chest. I'm working on a tweaked assault snake Eyes)
I can't wait to get mine!

Here's hoping we DO see him on the shelf at retail. I would imagine, though, with as much new tooling as appears to be in Resolute-based figs we've seen, they have to show up eventually. Here's hoping. Thanks for the HQ pics; it really is a great looking figure.

Hostile- I would have never noticed that if you hadn't pointed it out. Thanks for that man...it's given me a couple of ideas!
What I did- I took the green version from the greatest battles set (His sword and knives are two-color pieces anyway, just like that rifle). I took the black single carded version and snatched the NVG's. Now he has a "Jungle Warfare" look to him.
Otherwise, this figure... I mean... damn. You lucky, lucky man.
I'd probably drop some of his weapons and replace them with that same rifle, and you could use the training Snake Eyes sword, or maybe even cut that sheath down and slide in a shorter blade. Hell, grab one of the backpacks from the Resolute Cobra Troopers, too... they seem to fit (I have one one my other SE, the one from the cartoon 5-pack that is pictured in this thread- and I simply swapped backpacks, the Resolue Trooper has a shotgun and I thought the bigger backpack SE came with gave him a better "heavy" look).
I'm not telling you what to do, just what I would do. That would definately be a good figure to have, probably an awesome default. It's amazing how they took his "Commando" look and made him more of a badass ninja than ever.

I cant wait for mine to show up this week!!! I wonder how some get out without the branding on the parts.
I know the two I have coming have no watermarks, etc on them at all.
Glad to hear you didnt shell out $300 for him, I too paid $50 for each one.
Now if I can just get a resolute Storm Shadow to go with him...

BHiga and Aly - I just have to ask...
Please don't be offended as I don't mean this in a mean way, but... why would you be willing to spend $50 for this figures - and B, you bought 2 @ $50 - when you can get one for $8 in just a few months? I've always wondered why people are willing to shell out so much for a figure that will be at retail very shortly...
Like I said, I mean no offense, and I hope I don't anger you. And I realize that it's none of my business what people spend their money on... but I'm just curious.

Dude- Not offended at all. For me it's a business write off, since having the opportunity to review it helps drive people to the site. Also, I had a little extra cash, and really did want to see this thing in hand so I gave myself a treat. I've bought some test shots and stuff before, but it's not a regular thing for me.

Hmmm, so the 'skin-tight muscle top and cargo pants' look for SNAKE EYES is popular now?
A lot of people hated the combination when the movie version adopted that approach.
Can't say I'm keen on the 'techno-beard' head, to be honest.

The catch here is....we don't know for certain when (or even IF) this figure will see retail release in the next few months. Or if it does, will it end up a store exclusive (to which he might not have access) like Resolute Gung Ho?
I do agree with your general view, but with Hasbro quickly and quietly canning a TON of Retro stuff in the past few months and the focus on the new movie...even I'm considering plunking down the cash for wave 14 Falcon or Resolute Snake eyes.

There's no guarantees on when these will come out. Will they? Probably. But with the RoC big movie push, most other things will take a back seat.
And think about this: Look at all the carded samples of RoC showing up from HK for sale. And those aren't going to be out for 2+ months. The Resolute SE (& others) are just a handful of samples with no indication of a production schedule. It could be 6 months. It could be a year. it could be never. Nothing is written as of now.
One other reason why Hasbro should be a little more forthcoming in the Q&As with info.

No offense taken at all. My justification is on the off chance this piece never sees the light of day, I dont want to miss out on it.
Will it come out...more than likely but the only Resolute figs I want are the BAT, SE and SS (and a Zartan if he pops up).
And I got two one for me, one for a buddy so. And I usually wouldnt drop over $20 on a joe early but like I said, I dont want to take a chance and miss the boat on this one.
But what I wouldnt do is pay $300 for one or even $50 for one with the sale samples markings on it, Aly arent you a bit annoyred by that??

So the one you bought does not have the blue marker marks on it?
I unfortunately I had to paint the top of his head to hide the marks.
I also order one for $50 (man am I glad I made a side deal on this I still can't believe the item on Ebay went for $300) I did not want to risk this great figure was canned and I would not have a chance to own one.

Want. Badly.
Although the sword is bugging me a little bit. The one he had in Resolute was a substantially shorter katana which didn't have a tsuba (handguard). I guess a custom one of these can't be too hard to come by eventually, hmmm?

This figure looks so freakin' sweet! My only gripe is the pants should be grey to match the torso and arms. Is this a proto or something or is this the final product? Either way it looks great. Thanks for the awesome review and pics Alyosha! Sculpt wise, this and Cobra Commander seem to be the most accurate of the Resolute figures. I sure hope this guy sees the light of day and soon!

Man I didn't notice how small he looks compared to Duke at first. If this is just a proto or sample figure, maybe the with final product he'll be a little taller and his pants will be lighter and knee pads darker. Either way though this is definatly my favorite SE since the 1985 figure.

Resolute Duke is probably one of the taller figures, with the exception of Destro, of course. The neck is really long, and the head is huge.
SE looks...perfect. I don't have anything to complaint. I don't care about the different tones, or even the sword (Actually, Resolute CC has the perfect blade for SE), i don't care either about the crampons, it's just extra stuff perfect for those snow serpents.
Overall, what i'm impressed with, is the sculpt.
Very clean and sharp. The muscles on the arms and torso are accurate and well done. I really hope that in future releases, the torso is used for bare figures like Gung Ho (please!).
The lower arms are perfect too, way better than any other arms. And the whole figure looks proportioned, unlike many others -including the standard Resolute Duke-

its a cool figure and i do like it!, but I dont want to insult you but I noticed that there are so many identical markings on yours that match the one sold on ebay for over 300.00 such as the small scuff on the belt buckle the hasbro stamp on the shoulder the head marking and the mark on his right knee pad, this is obviously the same figure pictured in the auction, so why would you say it isnt?

Great to finally see a Resolute version of SE (RSE). Though I did follow the auction of my compatriot of his custom RSE ($300? wow!), I personally believe examining the pictures release on the net on RSE's profiles would equivalent kitbashing from cetain TFA figures to create a seamless incarnation in plastic. Consider the following recipe:
HEAD-Firefly (with goggles from comic pack with SS), you can even have a removable goggles showing RSE's scarred eyes.
TORSO-Quick Kick (wish list!)
SHOULDERS/ARMS-Resolute Cobra trooper. (wish list!!) I believe the pouldrons approximates the artist's sketch.
FOREARMS-Flint (which I think the featured figure has)
HANDS-Resolute Cobra Trooper (has the back-hand padding)
THIGHS-Torch (for the front thigh pockets)
KNEES/LEGS-Resolute Cobra Trooper (for the knee guards and shin wraps, which upon close examination of the profile pictures actually extend to hug the ankles and encapsulate part of the foot where it attaches to the leg)
FEET-Crimson Guard.
The customizing one needs would be the harness/backpack and the belt/sheath (which should be both removable) and ninjato (or wakizashi) (we can customize this from Storm Shadow from his sword/quiver backpack). I personally believe that RSE packed a "ninjato" for close-quartered combat, featuring a straight blade) than a curved katana. And lastly the belt should have the extra pouch on his right side. Paint away...and wallah! Only if I had all the parts, he he.

Because it's not. I paid for this figure two days before that auction even went up. Most likely I was the first person to make an offer to the seller, and he sent the figure that's pictured out to me and frankly it doesn't bother me one bit. Even if it was though, why would you care?

Because it's not. I paid for this figure two days before that auction even went up. Most likely I was the first person to make an offer to the seller, and he sent the figure that's pictured out to me and frankly it doesn't bother me one bit. Even if it was though, why would you care?
I really dont, its just that as you can see that is the exact figure and if you didnt win it but it was sent to you anyway there will be one real angry ebayer that didnt get his item , I am pretty sure whoever bid and won will expect the exact figure they saw pictured, wouldnt you??

Maybe so, but most likely that buyer got one that didn't have all the markings and was happier for it. I would have been if the shoe was on the other foot. Do I wish mine was cleaner, sure, but it doens't bother me at all as the factory markings just add flavor and legitimacy to the figure as an early product sample/test shot/. I'll pick up one at retail when and if these hit anytime soon that will be unmarked. I just find it strange when folks get all bent out of shape over what someone else paid for something (not that you really did, but in general).

nice review, i personally like the resolute SS a bit more from pics, this is a cool SE but i think the new 5 pack one is a lot better then this.

Everytime I look at these pics it makes me so frustrated tha Hasbros hasn't released this SE figure yet and the small possibility he may not even be released is even more frustrating. This figure is gold and Hasbro doesn't seem to realize it or care.

Just when you think Snake Eyes can't look cooler. Too bad I can't buy him here in sunny old South Africa. Prima Toys has the Hasbro license and they're sitting on GI Joe. Looks like I'll have to go to Brianstoys or smalljoes. This is just crazy.

...this is easily the most bang I've ever gotten for my Chinese buying dollar. I can't wait to grab one of these off the shelf at retail!
Obviously. :-/
While this figure is mostly win, I'm actually a little dissappointed... The sword is way too large... I thought one of the most iconic and bad ass things about Resolute SE was that he carried such a short sword and still did so much damage. Something small, compact and deadly. The image of the sheath tucked at a 45 degree angle on the small of his back, almost completely hidden is just awesome.
... and ninjato (or wakizashi) (we can customize this from Storm Shadow from his sword/quiver backpack). I personally believe that RSE packed a "ninjato" for close-quartered combat, featuring a straight blade) than a curved katana
oh, uh, yeah. exactly that!

As far as the seller shipping the listed figure out to people....There is no way to know if that is the same one. Some of the other figures he had were marked too. He let me choose which I wanted.
I think the worst part ( even though it is nobody's fault ) is that the winner has to pay $303.00 for the figure that we all bought for less ( I paid $30.00 for mine because I bought a few other figures too from ROC ).
The story on these figures is un-told right now....I have no way of knowing if these are all Production samples or not ( even though they all seem to have the shoulder marks or marker marks ). Who knows what the story will be regarding retail.
When it comes to Products that are in china...ALWAYS ask if they have more because 9 out of 10 times, they have as many as you need...or can get ( make ) them.

OMG. That two handed sword holding Snake Eyes is awesome! LOL. This guy better retail... And I mean better... or there will be hell to pay... and I mean hell... Which basically means I will be really, really sad if it doesn't. LOL. I need that Snake Eyes!!!

Agreed! I don't care how this figure is released, whether he's single carded, in a 5-pack, 7-pack, ROC or 25th Anniversary line, whatever just as long as he sees the light of day!
Funny though I'll bet once he is released (whenever that may be) about 2 months later, Hasbro will release several versions of him as well.

I need that Snake Eyes in my life. Probably the most bad ass version of the character, as well, IMO
