Oops, I meant Non-JOE Female Figs. Oh well...
So, I ordered some of these spylounge.net female action figures from Guru-planet. You know, the agent Annika ones. Now, first things first, they're obviously beefcake stuff. The type of stuff that happens when Maxim is the most popular magazine in the world. Not saying that it's a bad thing, but you know why people are buying these things...
Anyway, I was curious to see how the figure was constructed. You never really see anything outside of GI Joe, Marvel, Star Wars, or Indiana Jones. So, it's refreshing to see a company try to tap into our inner pervert and create an obvious sexploitation doll. Again, not a bad thing, but the only Joe with any real sex appeal is the Baroness and there's only so many variations on a theme that you can do.
The figure is surprisingly sturdy and excellently made. For $8, I thought for sure I would get a piece of [poop]! Now, time will tell if she falls apart too readily, but from what I can tell, this is fairly finely crafted piece of hardware (I'm trying to eliminate all the boner jokes, but sometimes they slip out).
The presentation is not the best, but then again, it's $8, how can you go wrong. Maybe the zip lock bag is a little cheap, but it comes with a nice insert card, and shipping was fast as hell! (Less than a week)

There's two in the package. I bought the blonde assasin(?) set with the green because I have grand designs of turning some of these into hot fighter pilots. They come loaded with a variety of weaponry, which to my surprise was quite intricate and impressively crafted.

She comes with a HK MP5-PDK with silencer, a ninja sword, an RPG-7, and a matching tac vest with a small turtle neck piece that I assume covers her cleavage.

One of the many things that impressed me was the design of the figure and its overall sturdiness. Now, the problems come with the lack of compatibility with 25th Figs. The neck ball is tiny and on the clavicle, which means (yup), the figure has no inherent neck. It has basically a half-neck with the other half being on the head.

This means that compatibility without a new head sculpt is nil. The description might as well start out with: "She doesn't own a single turtleneck..."

The head it comes with is not tremendouly exciting. In fact, it's downright boring. It's this lack of detail that cause you to think she's unattractive. And the hair. but it's okay and maybe would be okay with a little modification.

Overall, the figure will take some work to blend in with the 25th ladies, but it seems like the perfect figure to customize in some way. I bought four, so I'm gonna get butchering and see what we can come up with...

Thanks for the review. I was wondering what the quality of these figures was like. Can't wait to see what you can turn them into.

I saw some similarly-sculpted "Rodeo" figures at a local craft/hobby store. They were around the $8 mark as well, but unfortunately they were too cowgirl to use as anything besides Wild Bill's gals, and let's face it, Wild Bill has been repainted so many times, he's not getting any ladies. Sorry, WB, but you've been blackballed.

Great find. Here's the link for anyone interested:

The cleavage is simply absurd, but the various different figures have decent head sculpts. Really, at a glance the only thing that doesn't fit in with the 25th Joes as well are the arms. Otherwise, they'd make great generic female Cobra troopers, with a little paint and gear.

Great review Zoomie!
I've seen these before, and was tempted to order some, but i didn't liked the lack of articulation on the hips.
these later models have ball jointed hips, so i think they look great.
The good also, is that they're quite generic (a smart move), so there's a lot of possibilities for customizers. The simplicity of some models is great for those who like to sculpt a lot.
A few questions:
-do they have screws ? (insert joke here if you want) i mean, seems like the legs a sealed piece...
-what about the plastic? soft or hard or both (much like Joes)

I am interested in the female with pony tail for my Pythona custom. So I have a few questions for you if you don't mind me asking.
How good is the artiulation?
What kind of plastic are they made from, soft or hard?
How well do they pose? Do they just fall over?
Are they made cleanly, I.E. good mold lines?

How good is the artiulation?
The articulation is actually very good. The figure is only limited by the shoulders (always a limitation in small action figures) and the legs have a full range of motion, unlike v1 of this figure.
What kind of plastic are they made from, soft or hard?
The plastic is hard and almost feels like injection molded plastic. Of course, some resins have that feel too. This one has some engineering going on to it, from the joints to the way it's put together. It feels very hardy, but the again time will tell if I'm correct.
How well do they pose? Do they just fall over?
They pose pretty well and come with little stands similar to that of Joes. But they have no ankles. The boots are molded down from the knee to the toe. But they have great balance. I placed mine on a peg, but there was no moment that felt like the figure would fall when I placed it on the table, which means besides the obvious weight on the front end of the toy, it still balances because the designers were actually thinking ahead.
Are they made cleanly, I.E. good mold lines?
They are incredibly clean and professional-looking toys. I know nothing about the company that makes them, but I can tell you I'm impressed. There are no molding lines and the limited paint is done sparingly enough to look quite professional.
This toy, IMHO, is quite a find. They are perfect fodder for customizing. And I don't think adding ankles would be that difficult for the more intrepid souls on this board.

There do not appear to be screws. I'm going to try to figure out how to get the legs open (insert more jokes here) or how to get the torso apart in the next few days. I've got four. I figure I can destroy one trying to figure out how they come apart.

I answered this question above, but it does feel like Joe plastic. Very well crafted and durable.

LOL
Ok...well, from what it looks, legs should work exactly like the arms.
Basically, if you don't mind much the double knee joint, you could simply take off the peg on the knee, and switch the lower legs with those of a Joe (simple jointed leg)
From what i see, there shouldn't be great issues with compatibility. Putting one of these heads on a female figure should be easy, and doing the oppositte shouldn't be hard neither (you'll need a bit of sculpt too)...same for ankles (really easy actually)

My only concern is the hands. Drilling/cutting/carving hard plastic is not that hard. In fact is better to "shave off" details than soft plastic. But it could be a pain if used in hands, cos they would like the flexibility needed to hold different weapons. But oh well, good enough :)
Keep us informed in any case!
It would be interesting to see if they're full solid pieces, or hollowed.

No way missy, i thought on that first :)

Cool review. I've always been curious about these. I predict they're going to be experiencing a bump in sales the next few days.

So, the plastic is slightly more malleable than I originally thought, but still on par with 25th Joes. The pieces are also not as compatible. It looks like the arms might be, but the torso is one solid piece. And the hips are also one piece. The legs simply snap on the pegs. Now, it's not to say that it isn't compatible, but it's not perfect. I would also suggest warming up the action figure in warm water before trying to remove any of these pieces, as I malformed several of them trying to remove them. The figure is also painted, so be prepared for touch-up when removing them. The most fascinating part is how the joints work. They are held by a pin (one of which I broke) and actually depends upon flexibility to get it into place, not unlike the 21st century toys pilots (like my F-104 Kraut pilot). I still like the sturdy design of the toy and feel that with minimal redesign, it can make some cool action figures. Mind you, this is not a plug and chug project (just attaching different parts), it would probably require some adjustment to make it work well, but nothing beyond the talents of most people on this board...

These are not all the pieces, just the ones of interest that I got apart. Be careful, the smaller joints will deform under the pressure of a pair of needle nose pliers. I broke off both shoulder pegs trying to get those out, so warm water and patience is a must... I had three more so wasting one for short-term satisfaction was okay to me. Plus, I might use the parts to cast more pieces...

Awesome. Thanks dude! :)
Pretty much what i suspected.
Y'now, the waist piece, being like that, can be adapted easily to Star Wars figures, to give them the ball-joint hip articulation...
Now i might order some of them. Again, thanks for the "sacrifice" you made!

Thanks for that dissection, I got as far as popping the legs off of mine before I stopped. I stupidly only bought one a year ago with hopes of customizing it but didn't want to destroy it, so there it sits collecting dust, I never got around to buying another.

Hate the bump a really old thread, but I'm curious about something. I know bodies can't use Joe heads, but how does the reverse work? Trying to find more female head options (that don't require painting the eyes, something beyond my abilities).

I would speculate that you carve off the extra neck attached to the head with a scalpel or hobby knife, then use a dremel to drill an acceptable hole to mate with whatever neck post you intend to put it on, much like converting BBI heads.

I am surprised they didnt paint the neckline to show the cleavage like they normally do. In the store they show here cleavage but can be covered up with the vest.

LOL! This should be a requirement on any resurrected thread!
Following the link to SpyLounge, I only see v1 body (limited articulation). Is there a different link showing the v2 bodies?
