Okay, so we've all come across killer deals on Joes before. But have any of you ever payed more for a particular item than you should have? Perhaps you were too eager, or made a rash impulse buy? I know I have. here's a few examples.

Paid $52 for a broken/incomplete mauler
Paid $65 for a 1992 Headquarters with broken lights/sounds.
Paid $10 for a 1992 Joe with loose limbs and faded paint.

Paid $2 a piece for what I thought were classic 1982 straight arm Joes but, upon closer inspection, they were Lanard Figures!!!!

arrggh! Am I the only one who has made such dumb purchases over the years?

Wow, those are bad.. sorry.

Nope, never gotten "ripped off" on a purchase.

Gotten a Joe that wasn't in as good of shape as I thought (looser joints) and another that was more paint faded then the picture showed.

I've never been ripped off, but I've done some ripping off in my day. I once sold some boob some Lanard figures for $2 a pop who couldn't tell they weren't Joes.

oh yeah. i'm sure we've ALL at some point or other paid a little, or a grip too much for an object of obsession - i.e. Joe's.

my solution was to flip the items to someone else for small profit, or to break even at cost. of course this doesn't work for all items, but most of the time, if you put it out there, someone will want it.

sometimes you can resell and take a small loss. you can take those funds and purchase something you know will sell, or trade.

small business, amigos.

as far as price is concerned---if you agree to the deal....you cant scream "ripped off".

now when it comes to condition--the representation can be distorted....but even still, its still your call.

I bought a carded 25th Armored CC and the card was mangled
so I opened him and found a killer deal on ebay for another armored CC and IG Destor MOC.
20$ shipped I think... sumtin like that
dude never sent it.
Contacted him heard back once and then never again..
disputed through paypal, he never replied again
and paypal awarded me the win and I got my money back.. but it still sucked

One Sgt Slaughter also known as Josh Lockaby owes me 30 dollars for an underbody to a Night Raven he never sent me. What's real interesting is that he claims to have sent the refund via paypal but apparently he also sent that to the wrong address.

I would not call it ripped off but lack of attention to details.
I won an MIB Polar Bear which was not pictured in the auction but was in great condition but was missing the missiles. At $11 you really can't scream murder but I learned my lesson.

i wouldn't call it being ripped off, but i bought a loose. complete FANG from a dealer in Pensacola (over the phone, no less) with the agreement that for what i was paying, she would throw in a Cobra soldier at no extra charge. This was back in 2000.
i drove all the way down there from the southeast corner of alabama with a friend who wanted to grab some SW/Joe stuff, too.
she feigned ignorance and i nver got a pilot for the FANG.
But i don't fuss much- i paid 20 bucks for the toy and had a fun trip to the 'Cola. the friend came out like a bandit with sweet deals on vintage SW figs and MIB Sandcrawler,

I just mourn the idea that someone will not keep their word.

but ripped off TF wise....you got a few hours to kill? plenty of that to share.

I once paid $40 for a flawless MOC Yellow Stalker. $40 still seems like so much for a single carded figure.

I paid $150 for a Gold PDD about 6 months after their release and the guy never sent it. I bitched so much that he finally said the Post Office fucked up and returned it to him and sent me my $ back. I lost the money order he sent and screwed myself out of a refund. To this day Gold PDD is the only figure I don't have.

"RIP OFF" is all relative. If you ask me, paying $8.00 retail for a MOC is a rip off. So YES! Every purchase of mine is a rip off!!!

I have been ripped off plenty time. 2 was by far the worst I've ever experienced. One was through ebay. I brought a momc scrap iron for 200 and when I got the mail, it was nothing but a magazine! Lost the figure and my money. The 2nd was I invited a guy to my home to make big trades. He wanted the piper and I told him its not for trade and hegot pissy and left. 2 days later I came home to see my door opened...it was wide open. I had a gut feeling that some of my figures was gone. I walked direclty to my room hoping that all my figures was still in my display case but unforuntly a lot of my figures went missing. My 2 piper, destro gold and silver, some afa vintage figures, my afa bridgelayer, and most of all..my 2 favorite figures (mutt & junkyard and storm shadow)were gone. I know its the same person who came to my home the other day prior to the break in. My step son left his window open and that's how the muthaf***er came into my home. I tried contacting him, his number was no longer in service, sent him emails and no reply. Spoke with the police who then said the chance of me recovering my toys were slim because its a toy and they had hard time believing that they were worth that much so they closed the case.

HAHAHAHAHA

I just killed myself

I have had my fair share or rip offs but also
more problems with negligent packaging and dumb responses
get this is just bought a V vs V 6 pack tru exclusive mint sealed
anti-venom patrol. been looking for it for a long time and the guy sends it with 1 piece of bubble rap and brown paper all warped up no box!!!! WTH I opened the paper and guess what the bubble was all crushed I sent him a message about the problem and he told me
and I quote (it was mint when I sent it out go talk to your post office). ok..... lets just say I am going to report him to ebay and file a claim if the next answer I get from him is not what I am looking for.also 100% feedback been on ebay since 02 I guess 100% means nothing

What a nightmare, my story pales in comparison so here's the short version.

I paid $40+ for a Phantom shell, I knew it had no parts but I thought for sure it had that elusive rubber nose piece, obviously it didn't. I was so disappointed when I opened the packaged I had to recheck the ebay auction to make sure, anyway that's when I learned the old trick I've seen plenty of times now, photographing that particular plane in such a way as to make you think the tip is there when it's not. Not sure if everyone does it on purpose but that's the first thing I look for now. That's still the only part I'm missing from the Phantom, oh well live and learn.

Damn dude!

And that is the reason I don't conduct any sort of biz or trades out of my place.

I met this insistent bastard at a CVS. He wanted to check my ARAH collection. Yeah right!!! He was a buyer for one of the items I had on eBay!

Mofos are crazy and once they get a view of your stashes, is all over. You are asking for a break-in.

no but i have had bad trades, like i sent off my stuff and the other party decided they wanted stuff i added to my list after we agreed to trade.
also i have had people send me broken crap. like why would i want to trade for broken stuff.
i have even had both happen in the same trade.
now on the other hand, if you bought the ultimate battle pack and all those repaints, it looks like hasbro ripped you off!

Yea..I agree with you. Its a lesson learned..the hard way. Never been the same way since and all my buiness will be held somewhere but with some people I know and done buiness with many times will be allowed to do trades at my place or his/her places. I'm still looking to replace what I lost but still is a lesson learned the hard way.

I bought IG Destro when he first came out at a comic store for 30 bucks CAN. This was before Joes hit retail stores in Canada. It was impulse because he looked so cool and new figures were flying off the shelves as comic stores were the only place to get them at the time. I still sort of kick myself for paying that much, if I just waited a few months I would have had him for 9 dollars at another comic shop I found later.

I was just commenting to my wife tonight about how i have had nothing but good transactions, and that i will probably be due to get ripped off soon. Honestly, if i am looking at E-Bay and see an auction that looks to good to be true, i won't bid. I always check feedback and look for neutral or negative comments. How the auction looks too is another thing i look for. Most of the time i will not buy anything with stock photos. It s always good to see exactly what i will be getting. I won't buy from anyone who has changed their E-Bay names recently in fear that they started a new account to rip off someone and not want to ruin their main account. These are just a few of the things i look for on E-Bay...

Here on the tank i am a little more relaxed. I have dealt with brand new members and have not gotten stung once. I have had some great deals and if i am a little bit worried, i will have them ship first...

I rip my self off. There is this guy at the local Swap Meet that sells 80's Joe's. He has em in a big class display case thing that lay's flat. He sells them 2 for $5. They're in a ziplock with weapons. So I walk up and I get all excited and stuff. So i'm just picking them out left and right. I get home and broken crotches, broken thumbs, wrong weapons. It's my fault though. Does this happen to anyone else?
