So i have a rather large collection of 25th single figures and comic packs on my walls at home. They are taunting me, i really want to open them. However i also have a rather large collection of vintage joes that are all loose... so should i keep battling the 25th line and be happy "playing" with my vintage, or give in to temptation and open everything ?

Just to give you an idea i have over 75 singles and over 35 comic 2 packs, in addition to more than 12 vehicles , 11 battle packs and 9 5 packs... what should i do ?

If they have the 25th logo leave them carded and get the comic logo versions. If you don't want to spend any more loot open those bad boys up. Free them from their plastic prison.

Open the ones that you have doubles of.

Easy answer.

Keep the single carded foil ones MOC that you only have one of.

anthonyjkiller
03-18-2009, 03:27 PM
yeah i figured i probably should leave all the foiled ones alone, and there are quite a few doubles, some trips even a couple quads... i just don't know if ill be able to stop once i start opening lol....

just open your comic packs real easy like and when you are done put them back in the package. maybe when you realize how crappy most of the figures are , you will choose to keep them in their tombs.

Everytime you get the urge put your hand in the door jam and slam that door. That will stop you from opening them.

stick with (major blood) dont open those foil cards, if you want them, people on the tank, would gladly get you the ''comic card'' versions for you for trade

MrClean

Ask yourself this: Are you ever planning on parting with them or are they forever yours? if you plan on keeping them, then do what you want, no matter what the foil logo or whatnot. Open them, and if down the road you want to have another carded one, guess what? They made a lot, you can find it later.
So I say - open 'em and enjoy!

(To put in perspective - I've opened carded Megos that I never had any intention of selling. And I don't regret it a bit. They're not "money" to me, they're enjoyment.)

Yeah, sounds like that with 35 comic packs, 11 battle packs and so forth you should have a couple of repeats that need to be opened.

Open the new ones or ONLY the ones you like

If you can afford two of everything on foil, then there's your answer. If not, I say free them. My living room is a dissaster area, but it's fun as hell for the little kid in me to see my Scarlet with an MJ 50.cal sniper's rifle (which she can hold and aim very realistically) drawing a bead on some BATs at the other end of the room.

Open them up. Foil or not, it's all just worthless cardboard and plastic keeping perfectly good toys from being used.

Seriously, opening new figs is half the fun of collecting for me. Whenever I get a new one I can't wait to rip it open and put him in a dio.

open the doubles on the comic cards, i would leave the foils alone. i've opened many many foils, but the one's i have now, i'm keeping mosc. you gotta at least put your hands on some of them, it's kinda a waste not to.

There is a lot of complaints about figs not being able to hold their weapons right etc etc.

I have kept everything MOC in fears of being dissappointed with the outcome of the figs and just cuz they look nicer MOC.

I only open comic packs and get doubles of figs I liked.

I have not run into any complaints since I just display mine but if you were playing with them then it would probably be another story.

I open everything now, I have 1 foil SE with Timber sealed, but got another one to open. I just got the last SE and its foil, so I'm wondering what to do.

The thing is for me though, I have been collecting, Marvel, DC, 12" Universal Monsters from Sideshow and about 2,000 other things. 98% of my collection is carded..you know though, I'm like the most sentimental guy--along with my childhood collection. You know where my stuff is gonna go? Nowhere--I have never sold anything comic book/toy related in my life. EXCEPT an IG-88 back in like the 4th grade for something like Garbage Pail Kids and at 32yrs old YES IT BURNS ME!!

If anything..BIG maybe here, Ms Right comes along and I have kids, they will be passed on.

Joes came out 25th and I couldnt resist-almost nightlty I spend time with my shelves, or rearranging things and I love it. Cant wait for more, cant wait to mess with em.

The problem I have now is stuff like my sideshow Frankenstien and Dracula etc..theyre going on 10 yrs old now, they werent cheap then and I have this feeling like theyre worth something.
I'm dying to open the damn things and set em up in a case, PLUS the boxes are great and they can be "re-packed". But we both know it wont be the same.

I wont sell em, ever. Why keep em sealed? I think Im so used to seeing them like that I might hate it the other way.

Im so on the fence. Tell ya what, you open yours and I'll open one of mine, pm me if you do it and we'll get through this together lol

my moc color changing snake eyes haunts me.
Even though I can't stand the character, I'm dying to see him go from black to white...
Someone that has a loose one, tell me that the packaging lies, and it doesn't work. so i can get some sleep.

Dude, just go to Target/Wal-Mart/TRU/HTS.com and buy all the stuff you want to open.

I wouldn't open foil stuff right now given that the demand/value for them may increase.

But those white carded figures are not worth much.

[QUOTE=Syn3sthesia;624048]There is a lot of complaints about figs not being able to hold their weapons right etc etc.

This is especially true of Alpine, Barbecue, Wraith, and the Dreadnok 2-pack.

I don't blame you for refraining from opening some of those.

Agreed. So many people are keeping them MOC that the value wont be great down the road. Unless you have something rare like a Yellow Stalker or Wild Bill I say open them.

I know you're joking, but...

Isn't he temperature sensitive like most color change gimmicks, couldn't you just leave him in a cold room?

the opening began last night :) i opened all 5of the mass device battle packs, 10 comic packs, and the cobra legions 5 pack. they look glorious out of their plastic prison. i had so much fun opening them i think i am going to start opening the single cards and vehicles today :) i am a little disappointed in some fo the figures, they are a few that just don't stand right on thier stands.

Other then that minor inconvenience i am happy :) i just need to find someone willing to trade the 2 missing elements i need for the MASS device... i have the one that comes with cobra commander, i just need the ones from the red cobra dive, and i don't even know what fiigure the gold element comes with... i highly reccomend watching old gi joe cartoons whille opening the figures photos will be posted soon :)

Sell off the MOCs, and buy them all loose. Then you won't feel bad having ripped them open, and you'll have the figures plus extra cash for buying more stuff. win/win

Set them free!!! They're just toys and you should never collect for value. You don't think there are millions of other people that collect this stuff storing them away thinking their going to put their kids through college by selling their collection? Get real, those days are over and modern figures will never be worth the same as vintage ones. I collected these from the beginning and have all the Silver foil cardbacks and opened them all because they are just too damn cool. The only thing I would keep carded are the exclusives.

HunterSkunter
03-21-2009, 03:38 PM
Yeah, there is enough room to mix. You can open the non-exclusives, maybe keep some foiled cards back, but there is always a healthy balance. You just have to find yours, and if that means opening them all, then by all means, go for it.

I opened all mine. Whats the point in owning something that you can't touch. Ok, not true.. I didn't open my variants, and exclusives. But I did open the rest. Who cares about packaging other than clipping off the file cards. Tear them open, enjoy them, they're mass produced, and will have no real value for years to come.

I open all my Joe toys to pla... *cough* I mean pose them and stuff (lol), but all my Clone Wars figs are still MOC. Captain Rex, Commander Cody, Ashoka and the rest are all taunting me to open them too. LOL.

I will never open them though; I can appreciate their awesome Star Wars-ness without opening them. It is only with my Joes that I am compelled to mess around with and making shooting noises as I pose them around. LOL.

Thats why I keep all my moc joes in a closet. My loose joes can roam the house.

03-24-2009, 01:16 PM
they look better than collecting dust on a shelf.

I have everyone sealed, and the ones I really liked I got doubles.

I got doubles of every comic pack to get the comic.

Now I have a bunch of loose figures in ziploc bags just siting there, I realized I wasn't a kid anymore and opening them was pointless and a waste of my money, I don't play with them, I don't display them, cuz I got the carded ones in star cases on my walls, I will now be selling most of my loose 25th joes and vehicles.

Maybe in the back of my head I was wanting them for my future kid(s) but I can worry about that when and if I have one.

we were not little boys no more, we need not to get down the floor and play with it., collecting moc joes is fun, after a few years, you will realized that you are tough to resists all those temptation and it is always amusing that the foil cards you own started to appreciate its value., but another story for the customizers (i admire them a lot) if you are engaging this type of collecting, w/c is collecting and customizing then you have reason to rip them open, but if your not into customizing then i think your in your 'early' second child hood :) i'd rather see toys accumulate in dust (only if i have them in acid free starcases) than to see them accumulate dust on old boxes :).. that's IMHO

anyone need a foil carded serpentor, red cobra ninja x2, iron grenadier destro x3, or firefly ? those are the ones i have doubles of and see no purpose to open them... i am going to open my sddc cobra commander and one of my docs, so the v1 25th foil doc is up for grabs as well.. and by grabs i mean sale :)

once i get home and double check my wall o joes i may have more to add :)

so yeah i just caught the deal of the year..... 60 moc more then half of which are 25th foil, the sting raider, python patrol conquest, tiger force rattle, doc moc, a loose 25th lot of 89 including silver head pdd, and the shark variant shipwreck, the ubp, over 100 vintage with weapons, some random vintage vehicles, slaughters marauders low light moc, classic lunch box, and 2 vintage collector cases....... all for $600..... :) ill have to go through and look at the vintage stuff, but i know for sure there is an original cobra commander, bone white storm shadows ver 1 and 2, steel brigade, and much much more..... the kicker is the guy knew exactly what he had and did it anyway... i know he spent well over 3k on all of it........ im so excited its gonna be hard to go to work tomarrow instead of staying home to pl... err admire my collection :)

Oh yeah, open them! Only MOCs I have are 3 Funskool Dreadnoks (Zartan, Buzzer and Zarana), 25th foil IG Destro, helmet CC and jetpack Duke (because they look nice on the wall and I already have more than enough loose of each), and a Diver and w11 Zartan I picked up to trade. The other 150 or so are on shelves, freezeframed in battle, or being made into customs. I love opening Joes! :D Doc was a real thrill to open, I didn't get him until a couple weeks ago.
