View Full Version : Issue 144 tie-in to "Hot Potato"?

One of the later Marvel issues(#144) features a flashback to Snake-Eyes' helicopter crash. The story added the new wrinkle that Snake-Eyes simply wrapped up his head and "Charlie Mike'd" by continuing the mission.

The mission was in Trucial Abysmia, which makes me wonder if this flashback was the first part of the "Hot Potato" mission we saw in the back-up story of issue 1. Sure, Snake-Eyes had to have run back and put on his new "Commando" attire and mask. Plus, Scarlett returned from the hospital. So I'd say "Hot Potato" obviously took place at least a week after issue 144. But Stalker is working undercover, just as he was in issue 1. I'm guessing Stalker stayed in the field the whole time.

Just kind of a neat, accidental tie-in that can lead to speculation and some fun "fill-in-the-blanks".

Man, that is cool..personally EVERYTHING about Trucial Abysmia was Mr Hama at his best. I remember randomly strolling into a book store and picking up a few issue's..my Joe/comic/collecting days were about to end until I saw that Cover with SE holding CC at knife point.....awesome awesome awesome!

No, Hot Potatoe wasn't that mission. The "charley-mike" mission involved rescueing George Strawhacker (sp?) from Cobra. The Hot Potatoe mission was getting something from Sharif.

Two different missions. Hot Potatoe was awhile after the "charley-mike" mission has Snake-Eyes would have been in the hospital alot longer then a week, same with Scarlett.

Stalker wasn't so much in disguise in Hot Potatoe, as he was blending in.

This thread reminds me how annoying it is that reprint anthologies never include Hot Potato.

Sure, you're right. It wasn't a week..much less a month. Nor is "Trucial Abysmia" mentioned by name in issue 144 (found that out after re-checking the issue).

You could spin some yarn about how this was actually the first involvement of the Joes "somewhere in the Middle East". Just the start of things that continued to build until a final blow-off/exit in "Hot Potato". Or how Sharif and his minions were the Joes' first recurring villains until Cobra made their big official splash in issue 1.

conspiracy...conspiracy...conspiracy...

they don't want to re-do hot potato because it shows Snake Eyes and Scarlett together, as a couple...at least R&R mentions is...and the movie doesn't...the new mag Might not...

ok, just kidding...

i really have no idea why they don't print it...i really liked hot potato...i liked alot of the early stuff.
