View Full Version : Weird stuff at wal-mart?!

Okay so I usually hit up a few targets and wal-marts daily to search fro 25th figs. I walk into a wal - mart today and while I'm meandering down the star wars section of the action figure aisle, I look down and what do I see:

1 x Phantom Menace Obi-wan
1 x Phantom Menace Padme
(both still on the card but looking like someone ran over them a few times with their bike)

So as I'm standing there awestruck that a 9 year old action figure is sitting in the toy aisle at wal-mart I'm overtaken with morbid curiosity. How much are they asking for them and are they even in the system?

I run each one under the price scanner and they read:

Obi-wan Kenobi $5
Padme Naberre $5

My guess is that some collector has found a way "return" his worthless Phantom Menace collection?!
Has anyone else ever come across something so foul??

WTF!?!? Are you serious!? Why didn't you ask the dudes up front about it?

I have seen this one time about 2 years ago at my local Walmart. It was a deluxe snowtrooper POTF figure.I scanned it and it rang up like 6.99.Back then it was a 5year+ figure.I thought maybe they found it in the back and just put it out or something.I can't believe people would try and return them.Think about how much joy you could bring the less fortunate by giving your worthless or unwanted toys to them or their kids. Not trying to toot my own horn but I was cleaning out my sons room and I had two star wars posters brand new with the cardboard backing.I took them down to my local book/comic store to try and trade them in for a dollar credit each.A young kid like 7 was intersted in them so I just gave them too him and he was super excited. It's always good when you can pass it forward and bring someone some joy and it doesn't cost you a thing.Sorry for getting off subject.

A couple of months ago I found a CARDED Vader from the Unleashed line. The date was 2001-2003 (I forget which exactly) The card looked like it had sat in water fo about half a month

Today I found a He-Man figure from 2002 at K-Mart It was the blue and yellow guy with the hologram on his chest

I wonder how it got returned... Wal-Mart checks their stock status before accepting returns and will refuse if they don't stock it.

My thought process is that they're items that were found in the back of the store or a warehouse somewhere

I found a carded Voltar in the EXACT same manner in a toy warehouse I worked at back in 1995. I should've kept him.

here's weird...

i went to a wal-mart sunday.....not a super walmart mind you, but a wal-mart. no groceries, no car care center...hell, there wasnt even a star between "wal" and "mart" there was a dash!

and inside i found NO JOE! not even spaces for them and two green carded POTFs (maul & kenobi) from 2000...both scanning for regular price. oh, and there was only ONE scanner in the whole store...at the jewelry counter.

lets do the timewarp again.

Yep, I'm not really into star wars and dont know all the names, but about I guess two months ago I was in one of my two local wal-marts and noticed an emporer in a blue robe when he was a senator. This was the black and red carded figures that were released after v1 phantom menace. He's long gone now, guess someone snatched him.

That's got to be the case. Just a couple of months ago I was in a Wal-mart and they dumped a whole bunch of old product onto an endcap for Clearance. Among the junk were several Ric Ollie (Captain Obvious) figures looking dusty but new.

When I worked at Walmart. Stuff was just thrown on the overstock racks in the back. So I can believe that something that old could get lost in the back.

I am very doubtful you will ever find something the old at Target because every couple months they purge the backroom.

A few months ago, I found a Ninja Batman from Kenner's Ninja Batman line from 1997. Yes, that old. This was at Target.

perhaps the single strangest thing I ever seen at Wal-mart was bacin 2000 I found an original Return of the Jedi endor soldier (someone had to have returned it, because it was in way too good condition). Strange stuff indeed.

I went to Wal-Mart last week to look for 25A stuff, they didn't have any but they did have an old 2005 Comic Book 3-Pack with Snake Eyes, Zap and Grunt for the $9.96! I picked it up to keep MOC and am selling my loose ones in an E-Bay auction right now. I've always regretted opening up all my comic packs in the first place.

Nothing will beat when I found a Japanese Masterpiece Skywarp at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago. Did not ring up, was not in the system, and when they called back saying thay had a "Large Transformer that turned into a Jet" the guy said it was $24.88!!

Just last week I saw some transformer from 2003 that had multiple languages on the package. I left it there. It is gone. I'm not that into the transformers but I wish I would have bought it.

They are not from a warehouse, as so many assume. Whenever you find these odd one item finds, they are the result of either returns or were found stashed in the store.

A few months back, a 12" Talking Duke appeared on our shelves.

Supposedly, you can't return products that aren't in the system, but I'd really like to know why Walmart would keep cancelled lines in their system. My suspicion is a LOT of this stuff doesn't ring up and the service desk reactivates the UPC to do the return, which fucks up the whole system.

Yeah a couple of years ago a Castle Greyskull apeared out of no where. Months earlier they were clearanced out for like $15, then this one shows up and they charge full price for it. I think that thing sat for almost a year.

I saw a McFarlane Dragon figure hanging in the Transformers section at Wal-Mart the other day... I had not seen it before in my daily hunt, in fact I haven't ever seen a Mcfarlane figure at Wal-Mart before. I'm thinking it was a return.

But it was weird to see it appear out of the blue.

Shin you got lucky on the MP skywarp. you can order them on wal-mart.com. My guess is that someone ordered one and had it sent to the store to save on shipping, but never picked it up.

Now why can't I get that lucky? I can't bring myself to pay the $100+ for it.

So sweet, but soooo expensive... but I suppose he has a bit more articulation than the Skywarp I had as a kid. :) I wonder why he's so much more than Starscream though...

Because it isn't a domestic Hasbro release. Walmart has gotten into the practice of allowing secondary sources into the website, and they've been carrying some Japan stuff for a while.

Actually what happens is that the figures "fall" behind the shelves or inbetween the aisles. Sometimes by accident, mostly collectors trying to hide stuff. The floors get mopped at night and wax (liquid) is poured on the floors, this leeks under the shelves and its what warps the figures cards. Then when the employees go to move the shelves for an aisle restock or to make a display, they find the damaged figures and just put them out. IT happens all the time and I see it frequently at Target.

Its because the Starscream has been released here in the States. The skywarp is a jap import. thats how they justify their pricing.

I am starting to see the dragon line show up more and more at WM.
