Literally, I suppose...

Course, he's missing his tattoo now.

But I think the minor change makes a big difference for a guy who's suppose to spend his life out on a boat.

Now I believe he's from Southern California.

His name was Hector Delgado and he hailed from good ol' Chula Vista in San Diego, CA. BTW, Delgado is a Spanish and a Portuguese name in origin so he's white (but would probably be on the tan side, since he's of Spanish or Portuguese descent, but not necessarily). He also could have been Hispanic. His family could also have been from Mexico (it's possible he was of another South American ethnicity, too) and their name could be traced generations back to a Spanish descendant in the family tree.

BTW, I like the figure better with the tan.

The back story: go to the bathroom before you start reading... Or skip to paragraph... four...?

10:42 pm. The date, Dec 30, 2008. The weather was cool but still surprisingly warm for the second to last day of December in Kentucky. My name is Royel, I carry a brush... Buuuuuh-bu-bu-buh...

I'd originally taken the forearms off to add to my Zandar figure. As such I'd painted them a flat sea blue to match the figure I was making. I realized too late, however, that the plugs in the elbows didn't easily match up. Following my typical lazy self, I scratch the forearms and went back to Buzzers...

Not wanting an armless Shipwreck, though he was posed doing a fancy armless jig, [inset picture I never took] I began stripping the blue back off using rubbing alcohol. As it turned out, the alcohol worked too well and took the arms down the pale white plastic in places. Funny story the arms aren't dyed after all.

Having some Testors Light Tan [item no. 1170] left over from my Zarana figure, I decided to give Shipwreck a nice, healthy coat of sun worship more fitting of a guy who is suppose to live his life on the open sea. I used a toothpick to paint in around the details of his face. Personally, I'd never understood why so many of the joes sported such pale skin. My partner, Detective Bill Gannon, approved... My girlfriend, on the other hand, merely shook her head... Buuuuuh-bu-bu-buh...

Being a "Squid" I'm sure he'd have a pretty nice tan. Great work!

BTW, what brand of paint and what was the exact name of the paint color you used?

You're probably right. I was going off of his filename Delgado and was just guessing what his backgrounds could possibly be. BTW, I don't remember a lot of the cartoon's story-lines. Makes me want to watch them all now!

Yes, in the cartoon Shipwreck was adopted, it was in the episode called "Captives of Cobra Part 1."

you changed his race! wait what the hell is shipwrecks race?

His real name is Hector Delgado, hes from Southern Cali. He's Hispanic, so actually, the tan version is accurate, unlike the white one. Is hasbro racist? hmmm?

You know, all this and I was just going by the picture on the card. Maybe it's my eyes but he doesn't look pasty white to me.

Well, I just found out that he is adopted (guess this was revealed in the cartoon) so he's only a Delgado by name, not by blood.

Also, his adoptive family could either be white or Hispanic. Assuming his adoptive family is of Spanish or Portuguese descent (the Delgado name's origin), they're not Hispanic. Spaniards and Portuguese are both European (or white, if you will) and are in the same general grouping of other Southern Europeans, such as Italians or Greeks. On the other hand now, if his adoptive family were to be from Latin or South America (which is certainly possible, since his filecard doesn't specify) they would be Hispanic.

I agree, he looks like he's been out in the sun a lot in his picture.
