Basically just someone thrown in there to have a dead person so that the point of the Joes not leaving anyone behind is made. They could have easily just put the tracer on Nitro Dude's body and then left it behind, but nope, that's not how the good guy's play.

My thought too. I think Nitro Dude was thrown in as well as Snake Eyes getting busted up good to show that Resolute is not afraid to have death and violence as they keep saying. Also, Storm Shadow and Tunnel Rat manage to bloody each other in the other Resolute Comic.

Hasbro or whoever made the comic chose to kill Nitro Dude because no one knows or cares about him so it's no big loss to any fans. They just wanted readers to get a shock at the fact that a Joe has died letting us know it will happen from time to time.
