Ok, this can be any ONE fig, vehicle, item from ANY of the Joe lines but only one.

Yes one…

I know it’s difficult but for the sake of fun and in order to evoke some serious thought…what will it be?

A figure?

A vehicle?

What saw the most play time as a child?

What line, what generation one item and NO second places or near miss…just list the one thing you love best about our beloved Joe line and tell us why.

Me personally, it’s the Hiss tank. I can’t put my finger on it and for some reason I did not have one as a kid but I love the V1 Hiss. To me it’s the most unique, individual and instantly recognizable piece from the entire Joe line. In my opinion, this single item stands out to me more than any other including the many figs. There are other amazing Joe vehicles but fro some reason the Hiss is so unique, it just stands out. The Rattler, the Flagg, the Skystriker...all cool vehicles but all have a real-world (or close to real) counterpart...the Hiss is all alone in it's originality in my opinion.

And for some reason I find myself trying to buy more and more of them...one just isn't enough!

Tiger Force Flint. He's easily my all time favorite figure. I really dig the color scheme.

The Defiant, Because it was the one gift my whole family went into together to get for me, I had many adventures with it, as a young teen I loved space and the possibility of the millitary having battles out in it's vastness just gave me plenty of battles. I had the Defiant up till Hurricane Katrina (along with all my collection) and lost it all, but it's name "Defiant" stayed in my head through the whole ordeal, I started over with everything but the memory of my collection and my Shuttle Complex will always be with me, I will always collect G.I.Joe, because here we are 25 years later, the cold war is over, our heroes have changed many times, but G.I.Joe is still here Defiant still, and God willing Defiant Always!

Killer Whale.

That sucker by now had to have at least 30 engine rebuilds in it. As a child...that was in every mission:
A) it was a vehicle
B) worked on land and sea
C) carried a good bit of troops

My original mail away helmeted Cobra Commander. I was sooo siked when I sent away for him and when he finally showed up, he was in the thick of every battle kicking Joe butt. Thats my all time fave Joe toy. :)

There's so much cool stuff it's hard to choose, but I have to say the Defiant has an obscene amount of playability to it. More so than any other toy in any other toy line. Most playsets have one or two gimicks they focus on, then you toss in a few opening doors or elevators and you're done.

However the Defiant has the elevators, secret compartments, manned turrets, cockpits, moveable chairs, doors, ability to combine with itself into two different configurations and to top it all off are the small details. Like the wire that plugs into the backpack for the spacewalk tether, well the spacestation has a peg that plugs into the same hole in the backpack so the pack can be stored next to the airlock. Then there's the floors of the space station.....look on the bottom of them, they have foot pegs underneath them to simulate anti-grav! How cool is that!?

The original GI Joe HQ/Command Center from 1983. That playset brought me more hours of play time than I could ever count

I would have to say the Rattler. With it's hovering capability (at least for me anyway), the huge weapon payload it carried, AND ability to show battle damage (!!!!!), it was at the forefront of all my Cobra attacks.

Good answers!

Truth be told had I owned the Defiant or Flagg that would probably had received my vote…I’ve never even seen on in person…:(

And the Rattler is another favorite. Not quite up to the Hiss’s level in my Joe world but sweet nonetheless. It got a TON of playtime as a kid!

My favorite Joe toy would have to be the APC. It was one the first vehicles I got and was used in just about every mission the Joes were sent on. Land or water, troops or cargo, the APC was there.

Somehow my mother ended up breaking it by accident shortly after receiving it. She saw how much I loved it and purchased another one for me a few days later. I love my mom!

I agree about the Defiant and Flagg. The first, and only time I ever saw either of those at retail was when I saw somebody buying the Defiant at Service Merchandise. I went right up to the box and drooled all over it as it was being paid for. I wanted one when I saw it in the catalog insert, I would have walked to the ends of the Earth to have one after seeing it in person. I finally got one in pretty decent shape a couple years ago and have slooowly been restoring it to all it's glory. I just got the last big piece I needed at this years JoeCon.

The Rattler was my fav as a kid. The Defiant is my fav as an adult.

The original VAMP. Hands down my favorite vehicle driven by my favorite character/figure. Throw in Scarlett riding shotgun and I had hours of fun.

I never had the Flagg or Defiant. Oddly enough I never wanted them. I always prefered the smaller stuff like the VAMP, RAM and Sky Hawk.

Alpine and his pick axe... hands down my all time favorite toy and cartoon character. I loved how his axe had that loop at the end and how well it stayed in his hand.

Lent him to a friend one day, got him back and he had cut his pick axe down to a small nub like on the card art!!!!

I had never been so pissed in my life!!!

I don't know why, but I keep coming back to the Moray. I've always loved that vehicle. Just think it is so bad@$$. I had one when I was younger, and I got one of the TRU '05 ones now. But I'm still going to try and pick up one of the original '85 ones.

rattler.

i love the A-10. rattlers were obviously inspired, in large part, by the A-10. i also loved the fact of how wild weasel has maps and such on his thighs putting them in his lap when he sits. the rattler would always end up crashing into the pit causing mucho damage.
and then, lo and behold, like dead bodies in a video game that disappear due to limited memory, it would disappear...allowing another rattler to break the horizon and further ruin GI Joe's lunchtime. (oddly enough, the same disappearing act was performed by my two cobra soldiers too)

the post specified toy....so that was the toy...

my favorite Non-toy joe item is my Firefly bust by the now defunct palisades toys.

My choice is a vehicle, because that's what honestly fueled my obsession with joe's. I never had any of the big playsets or bases, otherwise I'm sure that would be my pick. Right now I'm torn between the original VAMP or the Thunder Machine. Vamp was the 2nd joe toy I got, the first was HAL. I loved the vehicles because they were so realistic. They came with those detailed blue prints which I would stare at and study for hours. I loved how the HAL could be towed by the VAMP, and that's what really hooked me for good - realistic interaction. To put this into perspecive, the only other 'car' type toy I had was some star wars stormtooper transport vehicle (not ever shown in a movie that I know of) that had 2 doors at the front with unrealistic seats and doors, and 6 pockets (3 on each side) for you to slide toops into. When I played with this, I always hated hoe the character could not realistically enter the pocket. Coming back to JOEs, here's the VAMP where my driver could climb into the driver seat, hold on to a stearing wheel (only one hand though lol). The inside was detailed, the outside was detailed. It has gas cans and realistic labels. It had a tow hitch for the HAL. I swear the HAL was permenatly attached to the vamp for all missions. The Hal had a step ladder for the character to use to climb up into it's seat. This level of detail is what hooked me into joes.

Now earlier I mentioned the Thunder Machine, so I'll come back to that. I liked it for all the same reasons as the vamp, but I always think of it first as a favorite instead. I think that's because I loved it's sleek, bad-ass design. I loved how it was peiced together from other cars/machines. The front end had that camaro front to it, which always made me think of Knight rider (which I loved as well). The doors opened up from the top, which was my favorite part of the Back to the Future car. The jet engine on the back was just bad-ass looking. I would play with the TM and as it got damaged in battle, I could easily remove parts and peices from it with out risking too much real damage to it. For this I remember liking it the most.

A close third is the Tomahawk helicopter for all the same reasons. I'd take the seats out and put my RAM motorcycle in it and have my joes do a quick landing, shoot out the back hatch on the RAM and adventure away. Vehicle to vehicle interatcion enthralled me.

I'm going to go with figure. Firefly is the man. although I now prefer the comic three pack version of him with the new sculpted head over the original. I just remember reading the comics and just loved his persona. It was great how he always threatened to kill someone if they saw his face. That would be another one they need an unmasked comic for...unless they already have one and I somehow have missed it.

I used to use Wild Bill and the Dragonfly to drop Sneak Peek behind enemy lines, usually hidden behind some shoe boxes or couch pillows, as a forward observer for both Slip-Stream and the X-30 and the Thunderclap...nothing was more badass than loading the shells in the chamber and having the bolt come back out the breach...is that right terminology?

The Cobra Ice Viper is cool character too...

Funny to hear others reminisce. Gi Joe was able to touch so many kids' lives and create memories and passion. I can honestly say it is one of the biggest things I miss about being a child. As little as I collect things like this it is kind of fun to pick one up now and then but nothing compared to the feeling you would get when your mom would bring one home or you would tear into one for christmas. I would have to say the killer Whale that I got for xmas was the best...like the little boy getting his red ryder. I still have it. I have sold many of my figures on ebay but couldn't quite part with that one...thanks again mom!

I always play more with the figures cuz I used to pick just some random transport so I think the ones I used more were the maybe Slice and Night creeper leader the one with the eyes covered I always tought was great a dude that cannot see and fight lol so they always go into the joes quarter to steel info or kill random soldiers

I'm cheating, as mine is a subline. It's the Outpost Packs. Checkpoint Alpha, Machine Gun Defense, Forward Observer, Outpost Defender, Ect.

I'm a sucker for stuff like that.

My favorite Joe toy would have to be the APC. Land or water, troops or cargo, the APC was there.

I agree! The APC was the one I used the most...It was able to carry the troops to the battle and just about every play session it would get turned over on it's side and become something for the joes to hide behind as cover. I loved it!!

I'll have to go with the Terror Drome. The ultimate Cobra base, there was so much you could do with that thing. Any captured Joes wouldn't spend much time in it's jail. Oh no, they were always thrown into the Firebats launching area to be burned alive.

I still have it but I'm missing a bunch of the smaller pieces. Eventually I plan to track down those missing pieces and restore my Terror Drome to its former glory.

As far as figures go Flint was leading every mission. He had to. Duke was captured.

Phantom X-19. This is one of the best vehicles made for any collection in my opinion. I'm usually more of a ground support aircraft guy, but this thing is amazing. If you're not sure about it, look it up on yojoe.com. They have some great pics of it there. Seeing those made me buy it the second time around. It looks like how I imagine the Aurora to be. Too bad it was released after Joe had already jumped the shark and I was pretty much done "playing" with Joes.

Now if I can just find a nose cone for that thing!

If I'm picking just one character, with apologies to Snake-Eyes, Stalker, Grand Slam, Shipwreck, and many many others...Duke. Duke was always the leader of my team when I was a kid, was always the hero of my battles, etc. I'm thrilled to be getting him with a jetpack, even if it is just a repaint.

my fav was the flagg. i was young enough to play with it when it came out. a close 2nd was the terror drome or the difiant. by the time i got those, i was just collecting and not playing with my collection with big battles. however, right now i am obsessed with getting a cobra hurricane. damn, those are hard to find.

with the flagg in the middle of the room, one of us would take the ship and the other would take a base constructed out of tables and couch pillows. i think the flagg always lost out to jet bombardment and ship attacks by the moray and mocassins. however, the flagg side would always have a back-up ground base on the other side of the room to attack the others base. the flagg would draw em' out, but would always be backed up by a hovercraft or small water craft.

Never had the Flagg....a friend of mine did get it and he destroyed it....we aren't friends anymore, LOL.

I would have to say my favorite figure is my 85 Snake-Eyes. It took me forever to finally find him. he was my favorite character and I remember a special trip to New Orleans to visit my Grandparents. My Grandpa would always take time to Children's Palace and Toys R Us and I couldn't find him.

The K-mart and TG&Y back home in Bay St. Louis, MS didn't have him either. One day after school Mom picked me up and we had to go drop off a prescription at Eckerd Drugs and low and behold there he was......a quick begging to my mom and she bought him for me.....of all the places to find him.

As far as vehicle the Mobile Command Center. I didn't get the Flagg or the Defiant or Terrordrome but this was the one big vehicle I did get. As an adult I scored a mint loose complete Rolling Thunder which I love.

Hey TKPrime where did you grow up?

I think my favorite Item is the DTC HISS,hate me if you like but it's just so well designed all except for that turret of course but everything else, woosh. The way the the hatch doors stay up,the troop compartment, the excellent missle system, the look and feel of it. If you have one you know how ridiculously leet it is.

and that's my two cents.

For me, it will be the VAMP. It's been over 20 years since that thing originally came out but so far in my life time, it was because my grandmother surprised me with that gift. If I recall, my friend and cousin, they would get everything they wanted from their parents. My parents...didn't really get me toys for Christmas. So, it was a year that I got what I wanted and my grandparents surprised me with it. Didn't expect it... So, being a kid...just to get the VAMP with Clutch, for me its more sentimental but will always be my most favorite Joe item.

I hope that it's released again for the 25th Anniversary.

Definitely the original VAMP. That was my first Joe vehicle and one my first Joe toys overall. That was one durable toy! Clutch drove that thing all over the house, usually with Stalker or Grand Slam riding shotgun. Not sure why those two...

I miss my VAMP terribly. :( I parted ways with most of my Joe stuff in the late 90s, and just recently got back in with the 25th Anniversary this summer.
