as i enjoy this "second coming" of GI JOE i am posting an "opinionated review" of each figure...this is "The Jeaux Report"
sorry Joes! its been a while since the last Jeaux Report....both jobs im currently working, one full, one part, are both overly busy this time of the year...literally getting home at 10ish PM and leaving at 530ish AM almost daily.....but the INCREDIBLE Crimson Guardsman has inspired me to suck up the fatigue and crank out an ALL NEW! Jeaux Report. (and i promised a double-header Jeaux Report, and i will deliver...soon as i can sleep a little!)
The Crimson Guard...or SieGie (as ive always spelled it) is, simply put, one of my top favs in the new line.
this sucker just screams intimidation. the iron mask, the all red outfit...this guy is just plain scary.
(ive always imagined these guys to be bad-ass enough to be wearing a faceplate made of IRON!)
detail out the proverbial "wazoo".
the silver snaps, the eagle emblem, the ranking tags...all great touches. the shoulder ornamentation and the golden rope over the right shoulder look fantastic.
love the fact that the revolver is now more than just a molded gun on his leg.
the guardsman's boots are like detail overflow with straps and snaps to the nth degree...okay maybe not nth, but....lots!
his weapons...straight (including the bayonet). his backpack...nice long peg, fine fit. his joints...tight.
paint apps for the most part are fine.
i know a number of Joes are a tad unhappy with the black visor instead of the original silver, but personally, i love the all black. back to that "intimidation" argument.
is it all roses though? never is...
dont like the "hollow" backpack...at all. the paint apps on the ranking tags are a bit sloppy...but its not really that bad unless youre right up on the figure.
his WORST flaw though....that is one LACKING holster for that revolver. it doesnt even qualify as a holster...its giant tool rack...there isnt even a strap to hold it on his leg!
for all the detail that was put into straps and their fastners...that "holster" is just downright crappy. and the revolver doesnt even sit deep enough in it to boot!
so, on the 1-5 Yo Jeaux! scale...
despite the minor issues and one major...i really cannot give the SieGie, a great figure in '85...a greater figure in '07......anything less than a BIG FAT 5 !!
