after looking through all 3 5pack box art in the back, i have come up with this hypothesis, these will be the remaining joes coming out in 2008
dr mindbender
bats (confirmed through questionaire !!)
zandar
iron grenadier trooper
snow serpent
covergirl
bazooka
dusty
jinx
roadblock v2
quickick (confirmed through questionaire !!)
tele viper
big boa
law and order
the logic is why would they take the time to rescan the artwork or create new ones if they are not going to use it in their
future single pack packaging... they have hundreds of joes to choose from... why these...

Hasbro has recently stated that Covergirl, Jinx, and Snow Serpents are not in the plans. The word on the Snow Serpents was a while ago, so who knows if that has changed...but Cover Girl and Jinx were specifically said to not be on the 08 list.

Snow Serpent, Covergirl, and Jinx have already been shot down...I don't remember where I read it, but Hasbro said those characters were not in there short term plans.
Sorry, we must have posted this at the same time!

Bummer on the Snow Serpent.
There was also the clue about a character with a life-jacket (to be reused for Cutter). Some have said a Lamprey, but it's too different. Comic pack Deep Six?
Big Boa in 2008 would be such a waste.

There will be another Serpentor, most likely with Air Chariot released. Hasbro said in a Q&A they had plans to release the original version after the backlash for the current 25th-styled one.

They carefully said that the Snow Serpent wasnt in the plans for the basic figure line.
Never said anything about the comic two packs.
I find it very hard to believe that we wont see an iconic cobra trooper such as Snow Serpent.
Between the 64 single carded figures (Counting the ones from 07 and the 40 they said will be the low # for 08) and the 48 figures from comic packs (07 packs and 18 packs for 08) for a total of 112 figures, not counting battle packs, the 5 five packs that will have a comic in each pack (another 25 figures)....Im pretty sure we will see Snow Serpent.
I also agree with all figs on the 5 packs will be produced...
You also forgot the Python Patrol Trooper (they ahve already confirmed Tiger Force Flint) and the Cobra EEL...
Im sure we will all get our figs....and I for one like Big Boa, I hope he shows up in some form or another.

Yup. I even like the ddp version. But i just wish they would have made him exact to the comic version. He's a lot different. And give him the air chariot from the comic. Damn i would have bought a lot more than 2.

Ive worked in the toy and advertising industry long enough to know a company, especially one such as Hasbro doesnt just randomly pic box art to use...
And I also find it odd that at least 80% of the characters on those boxes have either been released or confirmed...
Also if it was random, why change the box art so subtile with the second cobra pack? That only costs $$$ and if there wasnt a reason for it, why would Hasbro waste the $$??
And after seeing that damn Butterscotch Horse that has been such a flop and at every damn Target and Walmart...I wouldnt put it past Hasbro that IF the joe line continues a strong as it started, that the Terrordrome or USS Flagg wouldnt reappear.

let's see how bats and quick kick will turn out to be.
for quick kick,
I hope they don't add a small red dot on his white headband, in the cartoons and the marvel comics he only has a plain white headband (NO red dot!)
it would be cool if a cobra bat can be fully detailed with a working claw that opens and closed.

I'd rather have a new Big Boa then Major Bludd, Wild Weasel, or the twins. And now that Zartan, Buzzer, Ripper, and Torch have been covered when are we going to see plans for a 25th Zandar?!
Although I'm bummed about the Snow Serpent it's not as important as some of the other COBRA troops I'd like to see make the list (like a new IRON Grenadier or Techno-Viper). Besides the big H has a habit of changing their minds on a day to day basis so we might just see plans for a Snow Serpent down the line.

Ya. Remember, this line should go all the way till the Joe movie, which is August 2009. Plenty of time earlier in 2009 to get Snow Serpent out. I hope this style will continue for the movie line. I digs it.

After all of the "please make Snow Serpent" (which I don't disagree with btw), I'm ready for some of the earlier Joes as listed above.
Also, lest we forget Eels, who absolutely deserves a 25th style makeover in '08.

Okay, who wants the BATs to feature the classic "hologram" chest sticker, and who wants for Hasbro to add actually molded detailing?
Personally, I want them to have the molded detailing only if they have some sort of clear plastic window. Thing is, given the new body types [split torso], I don't think either option is likely.
So... since I have brought up the box art theory more than once myself, let me offer another idea.
When Hasbro originally made up the collages, they made sure to include the most notable characters from both the Joe and Cobra sides. That is, they picked characters known to be fan favorites or to have had leading roles in either the comics or cartoons.
That being the logic, there's no reason why these shouldn't also be the figures that are released in the 25th line because they're the characters that people recognize both from fandom and childhood memory.

Very good point, but I still want my Zartan to more closely resemble the original 1984 version. I always thought that the Dreadnoks and Zartan wore tank tops and T's because they lived in the hot and steamy swamps of the South.

Since news of this "give the Box Set art another look" broke I've been checking mine also, and it really is uncanny how many of the figures pictured on those boxes have been made or are rumored to appear in future waves. Why would a man who is deathly allergic to sunlight expose more skin? Or more importantly, why would a collector in the 21st Century be so obsessed with bad '80s fashion statements? ;)
I'm going for random collage... ;) BHiga6181 is right on the money when he says there's no way Hasbro chose that stuff at random. That doesn't mean everything on the box art will be produced, but it does provide a good window into what they were thinking for the line. He stumped me, however, with this:
And after seeing that damn Butterscotch Horse that has been such a flop and at every damn Target and Walmart...I wouldnt put it past Hasbro that IF the joe line continues a strong as it started, that the Terrordrome or USS Flagg wouldnt reappear. I'm not sure how someone who claims to work in the toy industry could honestly believe that. You saw so many of them over the past couple of months because it was last year's item. Remember the second year of Tickle Me Elmo? Hardly a "flop", the pony was not only a rousing success, but THE hottest toy of the 2006 holiday shopping season. There isn't anywhere near the kind of market for a Flagg or Terror Drome as there was for that creepy thing.

Okay, so I did my Zartan custom figure using Gung Ho's arms and torso, but now I don't know if I want to paint Zartan in his comic/original figure art colors (white chest pad), cartoon colors (blue chest and knee pads) or silver with a slight bluish/green color to it (the original '84 figure's color). I'm kind of leaning towards the figure's colors or the comic book/old figure art colors. Just wanted some second opinions before I choose.
Hicks_Royel
01-04-2008, 08:39 PM
Eh... I'd think the silver is a more likely option. The white probably is only the result of lacking better colors for the comics.

I just don't see how we can NOT get versions of these guys, seeing as how they meant so much to the heyday of all things 80's GI Joe. To be honest, I'd be really quite shocked if we didn't at least see Blowtorch and Mutt/Junkyard. Ripcord, I'm not so sure. He was a H-U-G-E favorite of mine as a kid, but I have no idea if my fervor and fondness for the guy is indicative of all Joe fandom or simply localized to just me and maybe a select few.

I still need to touch up and tidy up the paint job a little, but the figure turned out better than I thought it would. Okay, I can't begin to tell you how happy it made me to see Hasbro go with the updated look for Zartan in the 25th Anniversary line. It was, with no exaggeration, the Zartan figure I'd been waiting for since I was a kid. The photo of 25th Zartan was what made me commit to obtaining a complete collection of the line, and especially to buying duplicates for a loose display. It was the proverbial straw, and all that. I absolutely hate the half-shirt look, and it always bugged me that such a cool character got saddled with such a lame aspect of an otherwise awesome design.
Now having said all that, you did a terrific job there, DarthBrett. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't impressed.

Thanks all for the positive feedback. Recipe (really simple)
Head, chest, hands, legs - Zartan
Arms, torso, crotch - Gung-Ho (since the new Ripper and Torch also use the same torso piece, you could use those, too. Torch also uses the same arms and crotch. So use Torch if he's easier to find.)
I painted his gloves and boots all black and also painted his shoulder straps, elbow straps and outer knee pads black. I ended up painting his chest pad and knee pads with a shiny silver to make them seem more reflective in appearance. I had to mix 3 paint colors to repaint Gung-Ho's crotch piece to match Zartan's reddish brown pants and I also repainted the belt to be all black.
His torso is a bit lanky (but it's the same torso that's used for Ripper and Torch, too, so I think it works). Also, after placing Gung-Ho's arms into his chest-piece, I noticed that his shoulders were quite loose. So before you glue him back together, just put some tissue or paper towel into the chest piece. This helps fill up the cavity enough to make the shoulder movement stiff again. The only thing I wish I could add is some sort of shoulder pieces to match the original's costume better.
Don't get me wrong, I do like the new Zartan that Hasbro has given us. But I wanted to make a Zartan that resembled his original costume more closely.
