Hi, I'm considering collecting a full run of the marvel GI Joe comics #1-155 in NM condition. What should I expect to pay? And is it possible to get this in one shot, or do i need to piece it together?

Thoughts? Experiences? Advice?

Definitely try to get it in one shot.
NM issues should run $3 -$6 and $20+ for the last few issues.

lately I have seen the complete collection sell for between $500 to $600. I just saw #155 sell for $100 not too long ago.

Yeah I sold my extra #155 for $100 2 years ago. Don't forget about the G.I. Joe Special #1 that came out after #155. Thats a tough book to get and it fetches $50-100 easy. Small print run.

I ran completed the set last summer and started with just issue #1. I found about 100 issues on ebay in one lot for $240. The last 5-10 issues are crazy high at times but if you keep your eye on ebay and on here, you can get it for $25-40. I agree with TransTorture...try to get in one shot...you'll save a ton of time, hassel, and shipping costs of individual books.

Thanks for all the responses. Ok, I'm going to watch ebay and also post a wtb thread in the trade forum. Any other suggestions?

Good idea. I've never been to one, but I see there is one right here in Los Angeles in March. I just checked out their site.. they have a lot of interesting ticket packages w/ lots of cool special items.

I like to see numbers like that.

Got my issue of 155 for $8 from a comic shop that had no idea that it was a rare last issue. I took it up, bought and ran. Check the interior, first printing, good condition. I was happy!

If you are getting them to read and not as a collectible investment type-thing, you can always get not-mint copies and just use the reprints that Hasbro's been sending out with comic packs for years for issues you don't have.

I've seen not-mint Joe comics for as cheap as $1 or less. Still intact, just not mint. But I agree with those who say you'll pay less in the long run the more you can get at one time. It would not surprise me with the economy in the state it's in, that comic book stores are hurting big time and you might be able to get a good deal, even on the rarer later issues, particularly if you buy in bulk.

Don't forget about Special Missions, either. If you want a complete Marvel run, you have to include those as well. Some of them are directly tied to the main title and then others feature characters you didn't see much of in the main run.

And don't forget the European missions and the yearbook issues and the gijoe transformers issues too. That would be cool if they released all the gijoe marvel on CD rom

I'd just be happy if the collections had continued past volume five. Maybe IDW will get around to collecting the entire run now that they're printing the comic.

I picked up my second Marvel #1 in November for $3 at one of my stores nearby, and have seen #155 for as low as $10.

I sold my whole run a year or so ago and got $550 or so for them and i was happy with that (it was a lot more then I had paid for them when I bought the set)...

I sometimes regret that a little- but I really didn't have the room to store them - and they were all pretty much strong NM/M (maybe a few were in the VF area, but most were at least NM) so I never felt like i should read them, so what good were they doing me?

Now I have scans of all the comics on my PC, and whenever I want to read them I can - and i don't have to feel bad for trashing my NM comics :)

Thanks. I went ahead and purchased this auction. I'm assuming you're the seller based on the near-identical user-IDs. This should be exactly what I was looking for.

What would be even cooler if there was a double disk DVD-rom set that had the complete Marvel, Dark Horse, Blackthorne, Image, and DDP series with a complete navigation system and included 3-D glasses.

That would be awesome.

I'm not sure... I'll have to get a pair and try it out... however I was only able to find the first two issues in 3D, still working on the rest.
