View Full Version : Too many Troopers?

I just opened my set of Wave 4 figures from Hasbro Toyshop and found something extra. Along with the Duke, Airtrooper, anc two Cobra Troopers I ordered was a second Airtrooper I didn't. He's not listed on my invoice, and I didn't pay for him. It appears that Hasbro just accidentally grabbed two figures and dumped them in my box instead of one.

Now I'm no thief, and I will be calling the customer service line later today to tell them. But I don't really feel like taking the time, or spending any money to send this back. I didn't ask for it, and I'm not facing the heaviest shipping season of the year for their mistake. I've decided to call them and listen to what they want me to do and kind of wing it from there. I would like to hear any other advice. Is this a common mistake?

I'd imagine they'll just tell you to keep it for all the reasons you listed ~ it'd cost them practically what the figures worth it to have it shipped back ~ but I'm sure they'd appreciate the gesture, as would your conscience.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I'm not taking something that doesn't belong to me, but I'd be surprised if the asked me to go to the trouble of packing and shipping it back at their expense. I guess I'm calling to make sure that it's ok to keep it.

same thing happened to me, except I got an extra Buzzer. bummer, I sure would have liked to get an Air Trooper, but they were sold out before I could order.

Well I kept to my word and called Hasbro's customer service line. The operator asked me to re-pack the Airtrooper and send it back to them using the return label on my invoice. I guess it is worth it to them to take things back.

I'm sure it isn't worth it for them. Perhaps it's just a corporate policy put in place with bigger ticket items in mind. What's the cost of of return shipping versus their profit on a 6$ figure?

I applaud you for doing the right (at least in my opinion) thing though!

I agree that it was the right thing to do but i'm sure a majority of us would have just kept the figure. I suppose that's why they include the return shipping label. They should have said keep the figure and "Happy Holidays", that would been a nice jesture.

This happened to me, too. I ordered 2 troopers and got 3 in the mail this week.

the right thing for Hasbro to do would be to PUT THESE FIGURES IN THE STORES!!! so that we don't have to contemplate keeping THEIR errors

^Agreed...

And since this is Hasbro who feels no shame in replacing one product with something completely different and less sought after...

Keep it.

Obviously I'm no saint, but I didn't want to take something that didn't belong to me. I wanted to keep the figure and assumed that this is what they'd recommend when I called. Now you see what honesty gets you. A clear conscience, but one less trooper. ;)

I guess the plus is that this will go back into Hasbro's inventory and someone who actually wants it will get one.

Exactly! I think Hasbro should have offered to give you the figure, but hey, they didn't. So now you have to send it back.

A small price to pay for a clear conscience.

Is it really worth your time and money to box and and reship it back? Trust me, it's also not worth their time either given that we are talking about five to six bucks. Besides, if in the future you get a figure with a card that's all banged up from Hasbro, wouldn't you want to have them replace it without the hassle? Keep it.

You should just keep it. It's their mistake, you didn't steal anything. Besides, it's a $5 figure (even less than that for Hasbro to make it), i's not going to make them go bankrupt.

no matter how you rationalize it to yourself, taking something without paying for it either on purpose or by accident is stealing plain and simple. it doesn't change anything if hasbro made the mistake or you did.

will they arrest or charge you for it, not a chance in hell.

what it all comes down to is morals/ethics/honesty. i would have returned it to a store if possible vs. mailing it simply because if it happened to my little boy and he asked what to do, i would tell him to do the right thing and thats return it. i should hold myself to the same standards as i try to instill in my children. i would mail it if they sent me the return label/box unless they are ok with parcel service. who knows, if you call them demanding a return shipping label, they may insist you keep it. then it's a gift:)

naturally many others may disagree as is evident already. if thats the example they choose to set, that's there choice. i don't condone it but i won't rake them over the coals for it either. life is about choices...

There's no store to return it to because I bought it directly from Hasbro's site. I called to let them know they made a mistake, they asked me to send it back. I will be dropping it off at the post office tomorrow, end of story. It wasn't mine, I didn't pay for it, so it doesn't belong to me.

End of story.

what it all comes down to is morals/ethics/honesty. In that case, Hasbro's failure to compensate our man RolandofGilead for his time and effort in returning the product is stealing, plain and simple. :p

Now there's some irony for ya.

I packed the trooper up and will drop him off today on the way home from work. Personally, I think they should have told me to keep it. Now, I think they should send me a Yellow Stalker for all my troubles. ;)

They shipped it five days after I sent the e-mail, and just responded to my e-mail yesterday, thirteen days after I sent it. What I paid in shipping charges for an order they couldn't bother to cancel in five days should cover it if you want to keep the figure. ;)

if you bought from online only shop, your choices are naturally limited as to what the right way to resolve the issue.

i have had similar issues with an online shop in the past, towerhobbies. i purchased a min-z autoscale for my rc and it arrived broken. i emailed/called them and naturally they asked that i return it. i asked them for a return shipping label and thier response was to just keep it. i would return an extra joe provided they give me the paid return shipping label. if they refuse to do so, i would simply tell them they are free to stop by and pick it up but i will not inccur additional costs to resolve a problem they created.

oddly enough, in my example with tower hobbies, they ended up sending out a replacement that was even more damaged than the 1st item. in the end i had 2 broken items and 1 new in box and it only cost me the initial purchase price. i simply gave away the 2 damaged items as it felt wrong to profit off them. more often than not, i've found that when promted to cover thier mistake, they will just make the problem go away by essentially giving it to you. especially for inexpensive items.

Well, if you returned it you've showned Hasbro that you qualify for the honesty award, My hat is off to you, That's what I like about this board, the honesty and looking out for the big picture.

The Moral Dilema continues...

I just received an email from Hasbro Toy Shop that the figure I returned was received. That's just fine, only they've also credited the price of the figure back to my credit card!?

Now what?

Give up man, why fight them on this? The money the credited you was to reimburse you for your time and money spent to send this extra figure back to them.

You should have just kept the damn figure in the first place and saved yourself all the hassle. If keeping it really would have made you feel guilty, you could have just tossed it in a Toys for Tots bin before XMas and been done with. I don't think anyone could have questioned that as a resolution.

If having this extra $6 (or whatever amount is is) credit now makes you feel guilty, just donate that amount to someone or someplace. Hasbro has probably already spent more on this one extra figure that was sent to you than they could to even make any profit on it now. Any more time you make Hasbro spend on this is just raising the costs to them, that is why companies often just write off small mistakes like this because it is not worth their time to deal with it.

I give up. I think I've done everything humanly possible at this point. Although I never thought of donating to Toys for Tots. That would have been a very decent thing to do.
