Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but does anyone know the background of the author of the ultimate guide. My girlfriend gave me that book when it came out and it's almost in shreds. I carry that book everywhere with me, everywhere. I know he's on the boards and maybe here, I don't know. Does he go to the cons, i wish he would do a presentation on his experience putting this thing together. How do you guys feel about the book and how does it fare with the others. Maybe he should do a revised version with updated prices, cause ebay is blowing those prices away!

Anyway, he is responsible for reviving my interrest in being a completist, at least from 90-94. The easily lost pieces is a great addition. Before I got the book, my mind was still in the frame of collecting Joe from 82-91/2000-present. My vintage collection has quadrupled since I got his book. I am even falling for the neon. :)

Last I heard, he was working on another installment. (he posts on yojoe.com from time to time)

I agree though. His book is the Joe bible.

yeah, he gives a shout out to yojoe in the book, but i wonder if he lurks here undercover.

Mark has been involved in the online Joe community for a long, long time, and yes spends some time on the boards, though mostly as a lurker. He was at the Convention in Minneapolis and gave a terrific presentation in regards to unreleased items and research for his book.

He's a full blown member of the YoJoe boards under his own name, he just doesn't post quite as much these days.

He's also a Patriots fan, so he gets bonus points for that... ;)

wow, hi mark, good to see you on the tank. i was wondering as well about another book endeavor. you really did a bang up job on the first one, i can't wait to see another. it's a modern day sears wish book minus the ability to order anything.
when i first got the book, i was surprised to find out how much i missed after 1990. maybe i should already know this, but are all the things in the book yours, or did you get some help from friends and the like? are you still collecting ,and if so, what are your thoughts on the 25th line. did you ever set your collection on fire, and how is boo boo kitty? thanks for the awesome book, its been invaluable to have by my side. happy x-mass!

YOU can't really be Mark...I heard the REAL mark Bellomo is 12 feet tall, rides a full sized Trouble Bubble where ever he goes, and his tears cure illiteracy...But he never cries.:)

Glad to see you 'Tank-ed, Mark....

As a Joe and Transformer fan, I really enjoyed both of the guides you did. It's always nice to be able to hold such a great wealth of information in your hands and be able to take it anywhere you go.

Look forward to future installments of either toy franchise.

BTW. 2nd Edition of The Ultimate Guide: April 22, 2009 (am writing it as we speak... finally found my 3 3/4" Live Action Poster). MANY corrections. Dioramas. Extra pages. Fold-out USS FLAGG pics, etc. UPDATED PRICES!!! (2005 was a looong time ago).

Also, have an Ultimate Guide to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe/She-Ra and the Princess of Power out in late 2009.

No jokes, Kevin. No jokes, please about She-Ra.

Okay, jokes...

Thanks for posting, Mark! Great, great book! With finding your Live Action Poster, I assume that means you will be adding that to the new book? I would love see a Joe book with all the non-toy merchandise that Hasbro (or whomever for that matter) put out. Not that I'm saying your book is not perfect already =). Thanks for making such a great book and it sounds like 2009 is going to be a fun Joe Year, can't wait!!!

I heard that once, while visiting an Eternian zoo, Mark Bellomo and his crowd of scantily clad, Shakespeare-quoting concubines, came upon a large, green feline, Pussycaticus Battlecaticus, that had gotten out of its' cage. It attached and bit Mark....And started talking immediately. The feline was later given a position at a Prominent Eternian University, Professor of Big Green Cat Studies...

The feline says that to this day, no matter how many Orko's he eats...He cannot get the taste of mark's massive vocabulary out of his mouth.

Mark, I received your book for Christmas, and I just wanted to say that you have done a great job with the book and I look forward to the next installment in 2009.

I do have a few questions:
-Will the new book contain the 12" Hall of Fame or 8" Sigma 6's?

-Will it contain side profiles of vehicles in addition to top-down views?

-When I am using the book for reference, I find myself flipping back and forth between the vehicle picture's that reference the driver included, and the figure pages. I know I would enjoy a small picture of the included driver with the vehicle picture and description. Any thoughts?

-Will the new book contain new sculpts and un-produced figures?

Sweet! Are you planning on covering the "modern" line as well as NECA's mini-statues in the guide? With the announcement of the modern MOTU cartoon coming to DVD in early 2008 I've been on a MOTU high, ignoring my beloved Joes and TFs in favor of gobbling up MOTU I originally skipped!

Sty, other than references to upcoming titles, we're referring to Mark's Book, The "Ultimate Guide To G.I.Joe 1982 - 1994".

It's already been said, but I know I speak for most when I say the book is regarded as a bible.

You can pick up your copy here:

Right? The book is absolutely redonkulous!

Absoluma'!!

The only complaint I have (if it can even be called that), is that many of the vehicles are only shown from their top view. I understand page space considerations and such, but at least one or two side views would have enhanced my enjoyment of the vehicle portion. Also, for future volumes, it might be nice to see a card art gallery. Seeing the figures is fine of course and I love that aspect of this toom, but the card art was such a huge part of the appeal of these figures, that to not include that art somewhere in this volume seems remiss. But again, only a minor nit that didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of this book at all.

Hello Mark, I just received your book in the mail yesterday and I must say it is one of the best purchases that I have ever made. I have loved Yojoe for many years now. It is a bit difficult to get an internet signal on the road (especially at a show), so now being able to bring your book along as a reference will be great. I have pretty much memorized which accessory goes with what figure for the ones I own. This book is a great guide for me when picking up new recruits I'm not sure of.

One last thing, and I don't mean to criticize as well, but like every book I'm sure your book has it's fair share of spelling errors and gramatical mistakes. Hey we all make them, and I'm sure I have them in this post so that part doesn't bother me. What does bother me are visual errors, like on page 52 you either have a picture of Xamot for Tomax, or somebody fliped the image on you and printed Tomax inverted. Hopefully this is corrected for the next edition. By the way I love the idea of including all of the file cards and card art. That would be perfect.

Keep up the good work Mark, and thank you for this holy grail.

...I'm taking a photog class and working on aperture, white balance, micro and macro focus, etc.

The 2nd Edition of the book is going to be VEEEERY different. I'll probably have to reshoot nearly all of the vehicle pics. And decide what to put in the "fold out" section of the book.

Although I haven't even rec'd a contract from Krause for this yet (I ususally get them late Spring), I'm already shooting photos, finding new info, talking with Messrs Hama, Rudat, Dorman (sorry, Kev... I know, I know...), etc.

It'll be an ENTIRELY different book, containing "in essence" the same info, but it'll be... prettier. Heck, I'm a G.I. Joe guy at heart, but if you compare the design and content of the Joe and TF G1 guides I've done--the TF G1 book is better designed and written.

Dang it all. Well, with this second edition, I'm sure that I may be more satisfied.

The title to Mark Bellomo's book is, "The Ultimate Guide to G.I.Joe 1982-1994".
The book is perfect for noting to collectors easily lost weapons and vehicle accessories.

I would like to ask if there is any chance we get a guide to foreign Gi Joes ?

Also if you really want some complaints.....

Remind your publisher that many people use this book as a field guide a stronger binding would be nice. Also close ups of the hard to find parts would be nice too.

Thanks for the great books I look forward to more !!!!

1) Have already mentioned the book's "stinky" binding to the design team. Many, many, many times... heck, when I was drafting the 2nd edition, I wore out the binding of two copies in two months.
2) I've passed on my suggestions re: which "easily lost parts" photos need to be enlarged... we'll see what design does with them...
3) Until a He-Man & TMOTU film is "in production," don't plan on seeing a He-Man & TMOTU guidebook...

Mark,
Your book is awesome and I've had mine for several years now. I can't wait to pick up the 2nd Edition and the upcoming MOTU/PoP guide. Here's two quick questions:
1.) will the MOTU book have "Adventures of He-Man" or the Four Horsemen designed 200X action figures and NECA station figures?
2.) Any chance at a "Ultimate Guide to G.I. Joe 1997-2008"? -- I could really use one as the glut of GvC/Spy Troops/VvV product from 2002-2005 seems like a big blur to me. A book designed like your 1st guide would really help me out with my collection!
--- Thanks, Quinton
