View Full Version : AFA Gradeed Gold headed destro on HTS

DaViper

I just noticed that HTS has AFA 90 graded gold headed Destro up for sale. It says coming soon but I didn't know HTS sells AFA graded toys? Anyone willing to drop $49.99 for the fig?

I just saw this and was going to post it on this board but I see da Viper has beat me to the punch... this is kind of lame that Hasbro is partnering with AFA..... but, if you really, really wanted a graded Gold-head Destro $49.99 is a good price. -- I wonder how many they'll have and if a promo code will work on it?

I guess.. at least people who still want him and dont want to pay retarded EBAY prices can get him now..
and they should be safer since it's packaged in AFA's acrylic cases...

Just to add, I bet we start seeing the BIG drop on the secondary market on these figures.

My bet is that Hasbro made more than after the Con, and just sent them in bulk to get graded, got a discount due to the mass quantity, and are probably making a good dime off it.

But, at the same time, this could be as a result of collectors rallying against the extreme pricing on the secondary market.

Either way, now is the chance to pick up a gold PDD if you didn't have one already.

All in all, $49.00 isn't a bad price at all for an AFA graded GHPDD.

Consider this, if you will:

Figure cost - $10.00

AFA Grading cost - Let's just say $30 including shipping.

I paid $9.99 for the Silver Head version from HTS just after the SDCC. I want the Gold version, but $49.99? I haven't paid that much for a Joe since ordering the Copperhead exclusive figure with Joe-club membership.

Couldn't they just sell him to me without the clamshell? I couldn't care less about AFA grading.

If I miss it and someone scores multiples I will gladly pay the 9.5 grade price for a 9.0 figure and throw in some troopers. I can't wait to see the ebay prices for AFA graded PDD Destro a week after this sale ends.

Ranoobu,

For me at least, they sold out within minutes, there was no way for me to check constantly to see if they were back up, so I bought my gold destro on ebay for $75 (which is still cheaper than they are now).

considering non-AFA gold-headed destros have been about $100 - $200 on eBay recently this is indeed a good deal. Still, $50 is $50 and too much for me.

A lot of people who've been waiting to cash in their Destros are going to be disappointed when prices on these begin to slide, particularly this dude: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230201807602

Ya know what's funny and not funny at the same time about all this? Look at their Mcquarrie Oni-Wan/Yoda pack.

Obi/Yoda $14.99
Obi/yoda AFA90 $79.99
Obi/yoda AFA95 $129.99

They have 455 of the $14.99 in stock right now! They can't sell them, but they're still gonna charge $80 for one in a freaking plastic case!?

Also noticed they're only doing this with all their exclusives...makes you wonder if they woulda sold out so fast at the con if HTS wasn't worried about AFA grading some of them. Course they may have just made more to get AFA'd but then how good is that? They're no longer exclusives if you keep making them, now are they?

RolandofGilead
12-11-2007, 07:03 PM
I'd much rather pay $9.99 for again for the carded version, than an extra $40.00 to have a clamshell and some Bozo's confirmation that it's in good condition.

What's next for HTS? Offering Black-wolf Snake Eyes, or Yellow Stalker at "premium" prices?

The Commander
12-11-2007, 07:10 PM
What will make this situation sad is if they offer the AFA grades, people buy them up just so they don't have to pay the scalpers prices, then put out the regular, non-graded, $9.99 version.

That will make me mad.

Yeah, sometimes it's days, sometimes it's hours.

Here's a helpful hint though, They typically only add product to the site around 1-2 AM and 10-11AM (I have seen times when stuff was added around 4-5PM, but typically 10-11AM is your best bet)

all times are Eastern Standard Time

A while back Hasbro emailed a survey dealing with AFA graded figures. Basically asked how collectors felt about it, whether it was worth it or not. I guess this is the result of that. Graded McQuarrie Obi-Wan and Yoda figures are also up.

I don't mind them offering graded McQ Obi/Yoda, they seem to be in a decent abundance. But the gold headed Destro is a slap in the face. It was available for only a few minutes.....now suddenly they have a quantity that was graded.

What sucks more is that the only guaranteed way of getting a mint or "minty" card from Hasbro seems to be this.

The girl I spoke too was as rude as she could be, she basically was like "you stayed up all night waiting on a stupid toy, and now you are calling me because you didn't get it?" Which I guess is actually the case, I questioned why it was removed, and she basically just read the product description to me then said they probably just did not have it in stock. I told her that to advertise an AFA graded item would mean that they had them, and sent them to AFA for grading, at some point during my explaination she hung up. I did not yell or cuss, I was even polite and basically because I'm diligent in trying to find the answer to questions she hung up on me. Great company, awesome business practices. They probably removed the pages because of all the refreshing. They never said the figures would be available on a specific day or at a specific time, and there is no reason to assume they will not be made available at some point in the near future. They were not exactly advertised, either. The pages were most likely created and uploaded early for testing purposes, in order to make sure there were no problems during ordering, which made it possible for someone to find them via the search feature. Customer service representatives do not maintain the web site, but even if they did, why should they give anyone advance notice? They will go on sale when they go on sale, and we will all get one or miss out, just like everyone else.

Good point Compulsive, but I would say "Coming Soon" is kind of an advertisement. I agree with you though, I just like to know the answers to questions and thought this was a puzzler. Also my brain does not function well on little sleep and I was up late last night and early this morning trying not to miss out on a chance to get a Gold DDP. As for why they pulled ALL of their AFA'd SDCC items, I'd say fan backlash. I just ran through 4 Joe sites, TFW2005 and Rebelscum. It was pretty unanimous that everyone hated this idea. It wouldn't surprise me if we don't see those come back online ever

They were listed and pictured as "Coming Soon" on the G.I. Joe page, the 25th Anniversary page, and under their own listing as "Graded Figures" in the list of G.I. Joe products. I did not have to do any poking to find them, finding an answer as to why they are gone has required poking and proding, I've called every number for Hasbro customer service I can find. No answers, no one I have spoken to at Hasbro even knows what I am taking about. I thought it was fishy for them to sell the AFA graded figures, but I still would happily pay $50 for a Gold PDD that will ship in a protective case.

Say HTS did post the figures online with only a handful and demand obviously being in the hundreds if not thousands, I wonder how HTS would have been able to conduct an orderly sale. As much as I dislike the idea, an auction would probably be more appropriate in this case.

Poking around the site such as using their search feature and typing AFA? That's how I found all their other AFA items. Also, HTS is notorious about not putting in stock products in the main catagories.

I've seen 25th Joe items, that could only be found when using their search feature, just clicking on the "G.I. JOE vs. COBRA 25th Anniversary" catagory shows me that they have 17 items and only Buzzer, Cobra Commander, Destro and the Joe 5 pack are in stock to sell.

However, if I do a search for "25th" I see that there are 30 items (6 of these are sigma six items though) and that Beachhead is also in stock and ready to sell

Say HTS did post the figures online with only a handful and demand obviously being in the hundreds if not thousands, I wonder how HTS would have been able to conduct an orderly sale. First come, first served. The first however many people who get their credit card and billing information entered get the figures.

Poking around the site such as using their search feature and typing AFA? Yes.

Also, HTS is notorious about not putting in stock products in the main catagories. Well aware of that.

How long does HTS usually take to process orders? I've never ordered from them before and my order has been "pending" for two days.

it can take a good while.. definitely more than 2 days

sometimes, the status won't even change and you've got your package..

In the end, you'll get your package..

When you're logged on to your account, if you click on your order number it should say somewhere when you're order will ship. Mine were sent a little earlier than the estimated date.

Maybe HTS should update the photo for Stalker. He's green, not yellow. Plus, someone may actually think that the Yellow version is available.

Well, that's a huge pass. I had actually convinced myself to grab one of the $50 gold headed ones when they were up before. This new price is just nuts.

WTF!? What happened to the $49.99 version? Did prices increase over the last week?

The most likely scenario is that the web developers didn't have a price, so they just picked something for testing purposes.
