View Full Version : will they release zarana or unmasked jinx to mass market?

Is there any chance Hasbro will release these figures to the mass market? I get that con exclusives should be special, but isn't it special enough that they are available to Con attendees first? Is it so unreasonable to release them to a wider market later? I would think the Con figures would still be rare for collectors.

Just seems like a bit of a waste to make such great heads and have them go away so quick when we get a bazillion rereleases of other head molds.

I have yet to ever see that happen unless it was a toys r us exclusive. I know the white jinx head will probably be used for the movie figure.

I could see a Zarana with a slightly different paint job being released in new packaging. As for Jinx, I think we're just going to see movie Jinx for a while.

Nope.

That doesn't mean they aren't available, though.

Don't count on it.

hmm well okay, so they won't do it, but would someone please explain how it would not be profitable? I don't see the logic. Con figures will always be worth more and always be rare, no matter if they are rereleased with a different paint job or not.

The thing is, a good portion of collectors got the convention Jinx and Zarana. If that one poll that went up earlier is any indication, about half the people that wanted Jinx got one. Now, you have to figure that most of those people probably wouldn't buy a re-release of either of those figures (I know I wouldn't). So to re-release either of them you are going up against the fact that Hasbro believes that the majority of female figures sell only to collectors, and now we are talking about a couple of characters that a good portion of collectors have already gotten their fill of.

Now, if you're talking about complete repaints, like was mentioned already, Jinx is getting released in yellow. Will the unmasked head show up? I wouldn't be surprised if they did a running change with the yellow one with the unmasked head. Or if the Retaliation line proves to be popular, maybe they will release a second mass market Jinx. As for Zarana, I doubt we will be seeing another one any time soon, unless it's a complete re-imagining.

I wish they would just take the stance that the packaging is the con exclusive. It would still sell out because it's on a 25th card. Then they could rerelease it on a 30th-style card or Retaliation card or whatever.

And ain't it a shame.

That's a really good answer! Thanks!

I actually thought for a while that the unmasked Jinx head was the same as the upcoming Lady Jaye. Kinda odd that they have the same haircut but are two unique molds.

Even if Hasbro didn't rerelease a character, it would be nice for them to use the molds again for other new characters like the do with bodies all the time (cough marvel universe overkill cough).

A few considerations:
1) Eventually, all the parts will likely be used - or at least, many of them. The SDCC Destro is being re-used at least once in the MU line. (It is possible that whole figure is being repainted for an MU figure based on something seen in a diorama.)
2) Exclusives are funny things that we don't really understand as collectors. Up until recently, it was thought that they couldn't re-release an exclusive, but then the SDCC WW2 Captain America came out in the movie wave. And a very similar Namor came out in the MU line. We don't know if there were technicalities in both situations - the CA figure was slightly different in paint and feel; the Namor was very different in construction and paint. The truth is we don't know what agreements may or may not be in place.
3) We do know that Hasbro considered producing another Slaughter figure and did not. Plenty of speculation on why but most assume that had to do with agreements with the WWE. Hasbro owns the rights completely for Jinx and Zarana, and it seems unlikely that they would relinquish them for a convention exclusive.

That's it.

I hope not. Zarana might be the most worthless character ever in G.I. Joe. And Jinx is the most useless. Having them out of the line opens up spots for better characters.

And the yellow Jinx isn't just a repaint, it's a different body.

If they released Jinx w/o the mask in the yellow version or included both heads...I wouldnt even want the white one! I dont even like the red one! I loved the VvV one but the club exclusive version of it looks like crap!

Nope cause female figures don't sell well at retail and never have according to Hasbro.

That yellow jinx body looks awfully close to the sdcc one.

Yet whenever a female character is released, especially with Marvel Universe, they're the first ones snatched up. Heck, I remember a month ago a kid was pissed because he couldn't find Avengers' Black Widow.

Anyways, Hasbro won't ever release any female figures to mass market. Even when they do it's one per case, or one per every ten cases because that's what it feels like.
I want a Sigma 6 Jinx in 1/18th scale. Since it won't happen I need to figure out how to make one.

That's gonna defeat the purpose being a con exclusive.

Has happened with Marvel Universe and in all fairness it probably should but it probably won't happen.

Don't forget the TFCC Classics Thundercracker and Thrust(?) from the con set. When Hasbro realized their mistake in ending the classics line, they also realized how making these classic characters exclusives was a mistake. They came out single carded (w/very slight differences) a year or so later.

I don't have that optimistic outlook for the Joe stuff though.

I've learned to never say never when it comes to such things. I won't hold my breath, though.

I'd say Jinx has a better chance than Zarana...maybe included in a ninja-themed gift set of sorts. I'd love a DiC colors Zarana or one closer to her ARAH V1 colors than the SDCC offering.
