View Full Version : Why Not Just Make Quick Kick A Ninja?

Sense marketing research reveals that kids want ninjas, why not make the most obvious member of the JOE team a member of the Arashikage, Quick Kick. While they're at it. PLEASE give this man a new uniform.

He's more like Chuck Norris / Johnny Cage. Guy really good at martial arts but went into the hollywood world as a stunt man. AT least thats how I remember it. Though now Roadblocks a Ninja so ..heck, let's make everyone a ninja! How about Sneak-Peek! He's ready for ninja training with that giant scope! Keeee-yaw!

I like that he can be a martial artist and not a ninja. Its a novel approach for Hasbro these days.

I think that Snake Eyes should remain Joe's resident ninja. Plus, I kind of like Quick Kick as more of a Kung Fu/ Karate guy rather than a ninja. Having QK not be a ninja adds diversity to the team and makes both the character and the team more interesting IMO. I vote keep QK the way he is, though a new uniform might be cool. Maybe a yellow jump suit like Bruce Lee... Yeah, that would be sweet. That would be awesome-sauce. Yup, yup, that would be hellah cool.

Actually, no. As a Marvel comic/Hama fan, his 10 second @$$ kicking by Storm Shadow--a dead and reborn SS, nonetheless--showed that Quick Kick has a long way to go to reach Joe status, not to mention ninja status.
And the cartoon just killed the character for me. Fudgie Bars? Really?!

QK is the man, especially in the toon. I mean, I'd like to see you run around shirtless and shoeless in the arctic and still be able to join a top secret special mission force with nothing but a background as a. Hollywood stunt-man/ commercial actor. Did I mention he kicks ass?

Okay, got me there...or do you? In the winter with sidewalks full of icy snow, I send my barefoot son on a "mission" to run and grab the newspaper at the end of the driveway. He lives for those missions. Hmmm...guess that makes my 10 year old son a Joe. ;)

Quick Kick showed up ALOT on the cartoon series and was pretty popular from what I remember, especially because Martial Arts was popular aswell.

I agree, plus NOT being a ninja adds diversity to the Joe team martial artists. More ninjas makes Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes not stand out as much.

Agreed. I have pretty thick callouses on the bottom of my feet so walking around barefoot is no problem for me, but walking around barefoot in the ice and snow; not so much. That said, QK didn't just run to grab the paper, he fought leopard seals and Cobra to boot.

Quick Kick may very well become a ninja in a later movie- as stories and characters are rewritten it would not surprise me to see Ninja Commando Barbeque leading the Joe Team eventually. Heck, you might even get Ninja Commando Tripwire and Shipwreck. LOL

Well, to be fair, in DDP, SE did do some martial arts training with the group. Even in Marvel, there was the origins story with Scarlett sparring with SE and him letting her win. What I take from that is that all have had some Arashikage training via team members. Remember that Scarlett was a part of Ninja Force - although I'm pretty sure she never got the stamp. Still, she has faught Red Ninjas and others and came out on top.

I haven't seen Retaliation yet, but I don't think any of the characters have been re-written as ninja. Roadblock's connection to being a ninja is more of a promotional ploy by Hasbro to sell Joe toys to ninja loving kids than it is a storyline change by Paramount to the mythos, I think.

The comic shows him receiving Arashikage training. He doesn't get the tatoo but rather a medal around his neck. The comic prequel explains his invention of the gunfu or whatever. And just like Duke, he eventually holds his own against SE.

Naw, he's sitting here now reading over my shoulder. He's telling me now that he got chased by the neighbor's dog when he did one of the newspaper missions. Still, unlike QK, he didn't stand and fight the dog. I guess he is a less-seasoned Joe in comparison to hot coals/cold ice Quick Kick. ;)

It's probably best that he doesn't fight the neighbor's dog, lol! He already knows, so that's half the battle right there. Sounds like a Joe to me. ;)

J/K My sister and I used to see who could run out to the street and back in the fastest without shoes on the ice covered sidewalk.

Ah, thanks for noticing! He wanted to be the Vietnam Snake Eyes--and he really does love his sister--so it was perfect. My son and I both are making our family into custom Joes (I know, a bit corny, but my sig pic made me think of it), and my son's custom figure will have a super small pic of his sister that I shrunk and printed out, using Word. Too cool!

The only qualification to "being" a Ninja is to take some Ninjitsu classes. You dont have to be born into it like royalty, Its not a religion, you dont get to convert, its not racial or tied to any nationality (yes I know it came from Japan but thats not a requirement) Anyone can be a ninja. If Roadblock wants to be a ninja he just signs up for some Ninjitsu lessons and boom! same for any Joe. Snake Eyes took classes with the Arashikage who are a fully accredited ninja institution. Quick Kick can be a Ninja but he's broke and cant afford ninjitsu lessons (youtube videos dont count). He spends all his money on waxing and tanning so he can run around shirtless and now he cant be a ninja.
Ozzie, those self customs sound cool man. I've thought of that for a while but I was National Guard and my buddies all make fun of me saying if I was a Joe my codename would be "Weekend".
Anyway I cant wait to see your finished product bro.

Quick Kick is Jackie Chan or Jet Li in my Joe-verse. If we're gonna talk about ala Bruce Lee, that's gonna overpower him against Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, which is a no-no for me.

QK is an obvious Bruce Lee homage. Although QK is not Chinese he is half Japanese and Korean. What is suprising is how few Joe's are of Chinese descent. I understand Larry is ofJapanese descent hence all Asian American Joes are as well. With the exception of Tunnelrat the lone Chinese American who is himself a homage to Larry.
I agree just give him ninjas training too. Sure he'll never beat Storm Shadow who is like a Jedi ninja but maybe he's good enough to beat Shadow Strike and half of Ninja Force. Most of them are not even Asian based on their Italian last names. Of course their moms could be Japanese, but we don't know. QK dad is Japanese even though he studied Chinese martial arts.

Heck why not continue with the cancelled Ninja Force line where Flint and Road Pig or ninjas? Maybe the Baroness and Mainframe can be ninjas. Ninja Law and his ninja dog Ninja Order. Just because Quick Kick is a martial artist DOES NOT mean he needs to be a Ninja. Remember Ninja vs. Grenade = Grenade WINS!

I was never thrilled with QK as a kid. He as dressed had limited use in a tactical scenario so he ended up in the PIT training other Joes in martial arts until Cobra attacked the PIT and he could fight. I thought the TRU version was a vast improvement but he needed footwear.

I'm sure if they go and make Roadblock a ninja, then it's only a matter of time before Quick Kick becomes one too.
I personally don't get they hype of all of this ninja busines. I'm not a kid and it's not marketed to me, but then again I never understood in the 1980's.
Storm Shadow was tolerable and even Snake Eyes too. But when everyone on the team suddenly becomes a ninja, it's too much.
Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were hot commodity for the brand 25 years ago. But I don't understand the insistence to focus the attention on these two today with just the belief that they will be just as popular today as they were with our generation.
Did we like them because they were ninjas? Or did we like them based off their backgrounds and who they were?
Ninjas seem a relic of the past, going away with the last of the Ninja Turtles. There's a show now, American Ninja or something other, but where's the hype for ninjas for today?

i think the entire joe team should just be ninjas.
everybody likes ninjas, nobody can beat ninjas. ninjas sell.
game of thrones should be changed to game of ninjas, then it will perform better in the ratings.
the colts should not have drafted andrew luck to replace peyton manning, they should have gotten a ninja.
the galaxy s3 should have been called the ninja, then there would be no question if it is better than the i phone.
etc.

Nothing is new under the sun; but then again, everything old is new again! Funny you should mention ninjas...they are coming back on Nickelodeon September 29th for an hour long special before launching a new season. I've seen the previews, and it actually looks promising! This coming from someone who was too old for the turtles when they came through and really thought they were pretty dumb, outside of the Nintendo game.
BTW--I like SS and SE because they were ninjas, but for no greater reason than their background character build up via Hama and the Marvel comic series. I agree with you about all the other mail away arashikage diploma holders, though. ;)

I'm kinda surprised he has never been billed as a ninja. Although nearly all the ninjas wear masks of some sort and Quick Kick never has so therefore he can't be a ninja. He's still very ninja like. I'm just surprised Hasbro has not dipped into the Ninja Force vault yet. Dojo, Tbang, Nunchuck, Bushido, you would think they'd been released since they are all about ninjas.

I recently purchased a MoC Firepower Rambo action figure. After opening him I was reading his file card and noticed he was fully trained in ninjutsu. What I'm getting at is maybe QK is a ninja, but just doesn't flaunt it.
