Sgt. Major, worth buying or just an easy custom?

I was looking at the figure and there's nothing incredibly special about it to warrant the secondary market prices. Sgt. Stone's head and Resolute Destro's body in black with the Destro sigil on the arm band. I'm not a Darklon fan but in that case there's a new head sculpt and a lot of different colors going on that would be difficult to replicate.

My thoughts are use a Resolute Destro or heavy IG from the con set and plop on a Sgt. Stone head and I'm done.

Yeah, he's a cool looking figure and I wouldn't mind having him, but I can live without him because he would be really easy to kitbash. I think a Resolute Destro and the TRU three pack Sgt. Stone would pretty much be close enough for me.

However, I think the majority of the secondary market's price is coming from Darklon. Who I desperately want. Heck, I'd probably trade my TF Hiss for the Darklon twopack.

Also, he really doesn't look much like the Sgt. Major did in the comics. He was an old guy with white hair wearing an IG uniform in the comics, right?

I don't recall the comic images and my comics are in storage. I've got some silver sharpie that will do well to paint on the gray hair. That's a great suggestion on the tru 3 pack head since that version has a red beret.

To be fair, to make it EXACT, you need to paint the IG sash from gold to silver, paint the gold ropes around his shoulder silver, add red stripes on his sleaves and paint the arm patch red with an IG symbol on it. Also you need to remove the Cobra symbol on his chest. The most challenging is to find an IG symbol small enough to fit on the arm, but not lose the details to see what it is.

Yeah, just do a custom, seems easy enough....and your wallet will thank you later.

Darklon is another story, but I've seen some great customs of him on here that the recipes seem simple enough.

Also, you might want to rethink using Sharpies on figures, the ink will sometimes bleed into the plastic over time and make for some bad discolorations. Acrylic paints/sealers are the way to go.

I think it is up to you. I like to think of Sgt Major as a man of action. So for me the red bereted Stone head on a 25th IG gives me just the Sgt Major I need.

Yep for Voltar I just put a vintage head on the purple belted IG from the TRU 3 pack. Looks fine to me.

Don't think he was old. If I recall he had brown hear and was wearing a traditional Scottish uniform.

Here's a cool comic-derived pic of Sgt. Major. I'd just kitbash an entirely new figure of him based on this image to differentiate him from all the Resolute Destro-based figures. Or use the Joecon version (or recipe) and just give him a new head & Marauders Falcon's beret, take the skirt off, and give him new legs (like POC SE's) and a belt. [Those Res Destro legs are way too long looking on their own without the skirt to cover them].

I have an extra Res Destro so I'm working on my second suggestion...

Darklon is a pretty easy custom if you can paint just a little bit, as it is just a PoC Firefly with Zandar chest piece, and a Darklon head. The nice thing about this figure is that the paint rub spots are almost all covered by areas you don't need to paint. You can make a pretty reasonable copy of both of these figures for a fraction of the cost of the official 2 pack and they will look just about as good.

Thanks for posting that Marvel artwork. I think his Devil's Due look is younger, better, and would be a lot more fun to kitbash...

I wouldn't pay that much for such a minor character. Pretty sad when you can post all his apperances with just a few panels. And I think all his looks in the comics are much better than that figure.

If I were you, I'd just grab a Iron Grenadier v6 or v7 and slap a Cable head on it and call it a day.

Honestly i bought the 2 pack when they first went up on ebay for $150.00 free shipping. This seems to have been one of the better deals, but i still think its alot for 2 figures. With that being said however, i love both of them. I am happy i got em and i think sgt. major is awesome. Yet, now that i see them going for like 225.oo for the 2 pack idk if its worth that but 2 me i am ok with paying 150.00 and very happy having them both. Just my 2 cents.

Before I remembered this charactor existed, I used Flint head (From cobra disguise) on a ROC Destro body. They made great IG officiers. Basically the same charactor.

I had all the parts to make him in my parts bin. Put him together and then ordered the set on ebay anyway. It's worth it to me just not to have the paint chip. I like him quite a bit.

yeah there is no "easy way out" custom for this guy. A half assed custom maybe...but it will not be as cool as owing the real guy..he is friggen awesome!
