You could use your joes to do a figure type story. Stop motion might be hard, but you could move them yourself or just do a slideshow of pics with some added text or audio dialogue.

You need to capture the gi joe theme from the end credits of one of the episodes. Check Youtube for that. You'll also need a software that can capture video files from Youtube and convert them into something you can use. Find a free (and virus-free) .flv capture software for that.

Or, use a good portable audio recorder (or your mobile phone recorder app) and record the end credits theme from an episode.

Have you budgeted for both the acting and the animation?
Or is this a volunteer project? I'd imagine if it is for a youtube
series, it will be free (especially as its based upon an existing
license which is still in the process of turning a tidy profit and has
a movie on the way.)

How are you planning to go about the animation? Are you
working from a script? Do you have storyboards laid out? Are you
an animator with access to the required software and dedication?

I'm not trying to dash your dreams, just trying to point out the
amount of time and resources you will need to get something
like this off the ground.

Go to joedios and print off some "to scale" size backgrounds and floors.

As an animation major I can't begin to tell you how much I agree with this statement. Your talking hours upon hours of work for just a few seconds of solid animation.

An animated storyboard or "motion comic" like you see sold on Itunes might not be a bad idea. Without the most elementary of video editing or animation knowledge this is gonna be a ton of work my friend.

First thing you need to do is get the script down. Without the script its like building a brick house without mortar. I wish you the best of luck and please take these words as advice. I never want to EVER take away from someones creativity and artistic inspiration.

Don't forget those animated characters go on backgrounds. that's more hours of work.

having done several short films I can tell you it is not an easy process.

preproduction
write a script, then re-write it,make sure the script fits your budget.
securing a location, casting, props, costumes, storyboards, writing and re-writing scripts, screenplay, rehearsals.
are you hiring a cameraman? what kind of camera are you using?
contracts!
you will need releases for everyone in the film and if they are minors you will need their parents to sign.
you will need a music release
you will need a contract with any producer you hire.
copies of all of these are free online btw.

production(the expensive part)
filming, make up, watching for continuity, coordinating everyone's schedules, setting up on location, lighting, microphones.

post production (the other expensive part)
sound mixing, editing, reshoots, cutting, adding sound FX, adding music. adding titles and credits.

Be ready for the unexpected, I had to rewrite Recon (see link below) a couple times when I could not get the props I wanted or people to show up on time.
actors; friends work sometimes but if you want a good film you really need professional talent.

Try to do as much as you can for free, borrow props, ask people you know if you can shoot on their property. beg borrow, and beg some more.
a good resource is this site:
IndieTalk Home (http://www.indietalk.com/)

twitter and youtube are your friend, see a video you like the voice over? PM them and ask them if they will be a part of your project.
same with twitter, if you don't ask you won't get

hope that helps you get started.

Flash has come a HUGE way in the last 4 or 5 years. It's not the flash you knew from the early days of the internet. You can make a very sleek product. Adobe's programs are expensive though. Toon Boom is pricey as well but worth looking into.

go to a local studio or agency.
hold a casting session
or
start emailing people, the more contacts you make the better.

Even the cheapest and greenest VO actors are going to require some kind of compensation. I know when I was cutting 60 second promos going through WME we'd normally do $250 per. That's not scale because it wasn't going to air, and was only for promotional and sales use.

CL, you may want to start by just asking your friends or going to your local playhouse or college theatre department to get people that are just looking for another line on their resume.

yes that is what I meant by emailing people, you can get a lot of participation for virtually nothing or even for free if you start digging in and using google like crazy. I mean that too, you will get a lot of NO answers but don't let it stop you, just keep contacting people.
Once you make a contact in one area like the local theater you can then find other contacts through them.

I guess it would help people to give you advice if we knew more along what level of production you are shooting for, low end, in the middle or high end.

Do a dio comic first and get a feel for story plot, diologue and action shots. All this can be done on your own. From there you can branch out and try animating your figures through stop motion.

Become confedent in what your doing before trying to get others on board. That way when you decide to use voice actors you know exactly what you want and how to achieve it.

This.

You need to bring something more to the table instead of
just asking people for 'help' without actually having any
kind of plan or contribution.
