GI Joe Retaliation Ninja Boxset: Dojo Set
Here is another review of wave1 of the GI Joe Retaliation Ninja Boxset: Ninja Dojo Set. This time with Roadblock, Beachhead & Kamakura as the characters in the set.
Packaging
Like the first pack, figures are visible at front with little details/background about the figures at the back.

At the top side, we get to read information about the boxset.

At the bottom a illustration of the other ninja boxset

I’m really missing the box illustration of the characters of the previous waves most especially, the file cards.
Out of the Box
Unleashed, we get this… I figure, this is how the accessories are divided among the three. Please don’t ask, I didn’t bother including the useless BFG!

Like the previous boxset it came with a background image, this time of a ninja dojo… supports the “ninja dojo” boxset title.

Roadblock & Beachhead even without their webgears can stand alone. While Kamakura on the other hand, is missing a belt.

Beachhead
Beachheads mold used the 30th Anniversary Steel Brigade body (used initially for POC Snake Eyes) which is a good choice. It brings in the articulation I love in a GI Joe figure.
The light color green tone is just right for him giving a more urban look.
He comes in nicely even without the vest. I just wished Hasbro included the folded turtle neck collar of the Steel Brigade. I’m kinda glad he also came complete with the handgun & silencer and knife that is stored in his right leg.

Beachhead’s tactical vest is a reuse of Retaliation Snake-Eyes boxset (which we’ll be seeing more off in the future releases). It fits him nicely with the added color detailing of his riffle (first seen in POC Jungle Duke).
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/071012/a11.jpg
The rest of his fire arms is a pair of SMG’s we’ve seen first from ROC Baroness and POC Shocktrooper.
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/071012/a12.jpg
Beachhead is really a great combination of retooled parts & accessories and I love him.
Roadblock
One of the reasons why I bought the pack is Roadblock… as in this pack, he comes with complete, fully functional hands allowing him to hold on to his machine guns.
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/071012/a13.jpghttp://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/071012/a131.jpg
Compared to the single card version, this Roadblock is more of a commando mission version. With all dark gray shirt and black pants, and army camo paint all over his face, chest and arms… is nicely done.
The head even with the army paint camo, still resembles the likeness of “the Rock” with added paint apps of his growing beard. I like it more that the completely grown beard of the single card version.
The figures overall mold is great. With veins running along his arms and detailed black pants. I’m just not used to seeing the Arashikage emblem being worn as a common symbol for other GI Joe characters. But still I’m happy its marked on his shirt and not on his arms as a tattoo.
Well, as everyone’s been complaining about, I too am a non supporter of the limited articulation of movie characters. It would have been nice if Roadblock had the same level of articulation like the Retaliation GI Joe Trooper. But still with the limitation, Roadblock is still poseable and can stand on his own.
The vest that came with him is first seen used by ROC Night Adder. Though unlike the well detailed painting of the previous, this one came in all black. Hasbro should have paid attention on the details. Because of his size, the vest fits him well and matches the all black pants when worn.

Like Beachhead, Roadblock is a great figure… just stop complaining about the articulation already and you’ll learn to love this figure.
Kamakura
Kamakura’s base figure is a mix of old & new. Remember tornado kick action POC Storm Shadow arms & leg armor? Take that and mix it with Renagades Storm Shadow body and Resolute Storm Shadow head and voila?! You get abomination! I mean, Kamakura.
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/071012/a17.jpg
His vest was first seen worn by POC Jungle Duke and came with hood and katana blades/sheath from Resolute Storm Shadow.
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/071012/a18.jpghttp://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/071012/a19.jpg
I don’t know if its just me, but I think the sheath does not fit him. Its plugged to his back too high that the katana extends out top front.
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/071012/a20.jpg
He did however came with the familiar Snake Eyes 25th sword and 30th uzi with scilencer. The claw however, I can’t remember. Here’s how I’ll probably display & play him with.
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/071012/a21.jpg
I may toss the katana blades/sheath to the previous boxset Storm Shadow.
I guess he’s the weak point of the boxset. Unlike the Roadblock and Beachhead, the mix of parts and accessories for me doesn’t really work well for my taste.
Overall, I'd still recommend this boxset for Joe collectors out there...
