Heres a few pics of my collection and how I store them.
I simply don't have the space to display anything right now, so in the meantime, I keep everything boxed up, but they are still easily accessible should i need to locate a figure for trade / sell / play / whatever.
I've never used imgur before, so I hope I did this right.....check out my album.

EDIT: Just a little more info on my collection since I only posted a few random pictures. I've got about 90% complete vintage ARAH collection (82-94), I'm really only missing the Night Force guys and a handful of vehicle drivers. The entire collection fits in 3 boxes.
25th / ME collection is also pretty much complete, again, I'm missing a few vehicle drivers only, the entire lot fits into 4 boxes.
ROC collection is complete (all waves minus vehicle drivers fits into 2 boxes (really 1 and a half).
Nearly complete POC collection fits in 1 box
30th / renegades / and wave 1 retaliation figs fit in 1 box.
MU waves 1-17 (or 18 I forget) fits into 3 boxes.
I've got some other random stuff, POTF star wars stuff (1 box) and a nearly complete IM2 collection in 1 box as well.
I'm still working on a way to neatly store my Transformers (not the ones pictured, the loose ones I have under my bed). But they dont fit in the boxes so well. many of them have wings and what not, so it makes it hard to keep them together.

I hope this is temporary.
Haven't you seen the Toy Story movies? Those figures are eventually going to escape and may be pissed off at you!

well, I always liked to think that the storage of my figures was temporary, and that one day, when I have the space, I will display them in the most badass way possible. However, with each passing year, I acquire more and more figures (thank god I'm not an army builder) and I think, jesus, how am I to display all of this??
They may very well have to stay in their boxes until they decide to revolt....and kill me.

I'm getting into collecting more now since I graduated; however, I'm finding I have little room for everything so most of it is going to stay in plastic totes.

Are the plastic sleeves for baseball cards?

That's a good idea for loose figures. I use comic book boxes for carded figures. Got the idea from watching the Collectable Spectacle YouTube videos about Airedevon and her collection.

Are the plastic sleeves for baseball cards?
no, they are specialty archival bags, which basically means they are acid free. I had read about plastic baggies breaking down with time, and affecting the paint apps on figures, making them sticky, or eating away at the paint in general. That kinda freaked me out since all of my figures were in plastic baggies, so i went ahead and ordered some bags from GTZIP.com. They specialize in zip bags, their "ULTRA CLEAR" line is acid free (GTZIP.com - 2 Mil Lock Top Zip ® Bags Wholesale (http://www.gtzip.com/ziplock/ucplain2mil.html))
I uses the 3x5 bags, cost 15 bucks for 1000. I also got a 4x6 for my bigger figures, like MU Thing, Thor, and hulk.
EDIT: on a side note, I do believe that baseball card sleeves are acid free as well, but they dont have a zip seal at the top, so I went ahead and got mine from GTZIP.

Yeah, I'm having the same issues with vehicles, and my Transformers as well. They are still in a tub underneath my bed, just kinda crammed together. I have yet to find a solution to storing them in a space saving and non-part-bending way.

Right now, as I don't have sufficient shelfs to display my whole collection, most of it (95%) is in large, clear plastic boxes.

On a side note, anyone want to tell me how you post pictures directly onto the forum, rather than linking to imgur?

Cool! I used to collect baseball cards so those boxes bring back nice memories.

Well... if you are using Firefox it is easy... just right mouse click the image and choose "Copy Image Location". Then paste the "image link" into your post... then just add image tags directly before and after it... for example "image link"

A great way to store Joes, however, I ain't gonna enjoy my Joes stored that way. Thus I placed 'em all in a display cabinet.

Use bubble wrap and/or packing peanuts between the vehicles to stack and store open ones inside large plastic bins and keep a ziplock bag for easily lost/removable small parts.
