I was able to get USA Sarge on my phone. I wasn't able to get Zarana. Had to get back to the office to get her.

Edit: though with Sarge it was on Thursday I believe, so maybe a bunch of people gave up by then and it was a bit easier.

Question, why do collectors (not just Joe) feel they deserve to have access to exclusives for an event they did not attend?

Compare this to the thousands of people who paid for tickets, stood in lines, attended panels, spent money on travel/food/lodging and possibly missed out on some of these same exclusives.

Contrast that to those that want the very same items at the same price but all they did was press some keys on a computer.

Note that said exclusives are available at market rates that would satisfy the "need to own" but still at substantially less cost than actually attending the event.

Question, why do collectors (not just Joe) feel they deserve to have access to exclusives for an event they did not attend?

Because it is unfair to have items we want when we couldn't afford to attend or couldn't be at the computer at the exact moment the tickets went on sale since they were gone in an hour.

Exclusives should not be major characters. Exclusives should be figures that are either brand new characters or brand new ideas. Like the Starscream Cobra Commander thing was perfect, it screamed convention. The Destroy Hiss Tank thing screamed exclusive. Jinx and Zarana were major players in the comics, and Sgt Slaughter was a major player in the animated series. Those are figures that should NOT be exclusives.

Because we are nerd damzit. Seriously this is a long and drawn out discussion that has been had before. We aren't entitled to them but we want them. The HTS thing is a loophole that we exploit to get them at the lowest cost even though two days worth of f5ing costs more than the toys themselves at inflated rates. Question, why do collectors (not just Joe) feel they deserve to have access to exclusives for an event they did not attend?

Simple... we shouldn't have to attend a stupid converntion OR pay an arm and a leg. Yes, if you start with the presumption that exclusives are reasonable, the prices on the secondary market are not that bad assuming you make a decent living and you time is worth a certain amount of money to you.

But most exclusives have no reason to really exist in the limited quantities they do. And exclusive makes sense if it is something that does not have a wide enough appeal to be made otherwise. But when they continue to underproduce them year after year it is obvious they are doing it with the express purpose of creating rarity. Which is silly... this is a toyline... their entire goal should be to get the widest distribution as possible without risking too much by overproducing (a la RoC).

But when HTS underbuys every year it is simply insulting and pointless. There is no reason I should have to go to San Diego to purchase a $15 toy. This is the age of the internet... obtain wider distribution and make your estimates as close to reality as possible please.

Simple, Hasbro can keep passing up every opportunity to make and sell toys people want as widely as possible and keep giving us unarticulated drivers and laying off staff, or they can sell more toys and actually reinvest the profit into their products and staff. Making something as popular as Jinx an exclusive and putting Renegades Ripcord in the stores is as back-asswards as it gets. And making Zarana and Slaughter limited exclusives and then putting 1000s of the Dreadnoks and Marauders sets on BBTS without the two hottest characters is self-destructive behavior.

Went onto ebay last night to see what Jinx's were going for and one seller had 4 red versions that all ended within 2 minutes of each other.

They started out reasonable enough ($8,9,10 bucks with $10 shipping) but at the end of each auction they were at about $40 each.

That seller, whoever he is, made about $100+ in profit off of those.

I'd rather wait through this F5 BS than contribute to the scalper's wallets.

I managed to find someone going to SDCC to pick me up a couple figs, but he only could get the red versions. I paid him $50 for two plus shipping/time spent. It didn't take him that long to get 'em either. The white had sold out though, just before he got to the table.
I still want a white one though, and since I'm in Canada, I won't be seeing the figs until next week at the earliest.
I'd def like to go to SDCC sometime, and seeing as how I'm not a huge exclusive person, the fact that the past two years exclusives have been two of my favourite characters from my childhood years, it's been annoying. I overpaid for both Zaranas on ebay last year. Don't wanna do that again.

Well Hasbro doesn't and can't get the rights to use Slaughter's likeness.. Mattel has those rights locked down..

100% agree

Question, why do collectors (not just Joe) feel they deserve to have access to exclusives for an event they did not attend?

Compare this to the thousands of people who paid for tickets, stood in lines, attended panels, spent money on travel/food/lodging and possibly missed out on some of these same exclusives.

Contrast that to those that want the very same items at the same price but all they did was press some keys on a computer.

Note that said exclusives are available at market rates that would satisfy the "need to own" but still at substantially less cost than actually attending the event.

Discuss....

I don't think there is anything wrong with expecting to order a con exclusive online when there is an established history of them being sold online to non attendees. Past practice has won law suits. From what I have read the arguement isn't that, "I deserve one even though I didn't go." the arguemnt is, "if people only bought what they wanted for themselves then there would be enough to go around."

Now let me ask you this, Why do people who go to Conventions think they have the right to a free vacation/convention just because they went and someone else didn't? Buying more than you want only to sell to others to cover your trip is just as much an inappropriate agruement.

For me personally, if i missout because 1000 other collectors beat me to it then so be it. I'd be dissapointed but C'est la vie. When I know a guy buys 24x of something that he doesn't want to pay for his trip, it upsets me.

I asked the same about the Joecon exclusives... I'd rather pay then have to stand in line for 8-12 hrs which I heard is the time at SDCC.... Is that true?

Last year I was in line close to eight hours. This year they handled it much better and let fewer people get in line, which meant the wait was a lot shorter. I got in line on Thursday at 7am, and got a ticket for the 2-4pm timeslot. I went to the Hasbro booth at 1pm to get in line, but there wasn't a line at that point, so they let me in. Within 45 minutes of that, I had my stuff. So overall, I waited a little bit more then two hours.

No. That would not be healthy. But again, you need to back your logic up a step and realize that people should not be put in this position in the first place. They should be allowed to buy the product that Hasbro should want to sell. Purposely underproducing creates all sorts of ugly problems that would not exist if they simply looked at past sales patterns when figuring out how many to make or buy.

This can be very difficult with something like RoC because it was a new situation... the first time they had a movie backing up the line. The Joe SDCC exclusive is not. Every year it sells out, and every year HTS's servers can't handle the traffic. And every year, they make the exact same mistakes all over again.

Those two are the main reason I don't think a pre-order system would really change anything. The cutoff date for Footloose was just a couple of weeks before they shipped out, and yet still he was going for over $100 as soon as people had him in hand.

A consistent pre-order system would catch on after people missed the first few items. It takes time for word to spread about that kind of thing. Sideshow Collectibles is the model to look to. They know how to do pre-orders and make con exclusives available to everybody. That SDCC exclusive 12" Falcon is out there for anyone who wants it.

Why does everyone keep saying this.. I wanted the set so I went.. If I can make money on buying and reselling items then that should pay for my trip to get the items.. Which is why I don't believe they're mistakes. The Joe Club has started catering directly to resellers with the golden ticket. Hasbro also probably thinks their "fans" want the product to instantly rise in price, so they try not to make "too much." It's a mistake so many collectible producers make over the years, and leads to them driving their fans away and destroying the market for their product.

From what I have read the arguement isn't that, "I deserve one even though I didn't go." the arguemnt is, "if people only bought what they wanted for themselves then there would be enough to go around."

That isn't the precedent, however. There possibly might be enough to go around if attendees didn't purchase all of the exclusives on site. They are exclusives, to be first sold on site at the event where they are exclusive. Anything that happens on the secondary market is irrelevant.

Now let me ask you this, Why do people who go to Conventions think they have the right to a free vacation/convention just because they went and someone else didn't? Buying more than you want only to sell to others to cover your trip is just as much an inappropriate agruement.

It is their right because they paid to go to an event where a highly sought after exclusive was being offered.

If people do not agree, perhaps try looking up the definition of exclusive.

Well, it's debatable what would be considered mainstream. There are probably something like 10,000 people in the world that remember who Dial Tone or Footloose are.
Also, being at retail doesn't necessarily mean easy to get. Just look at Low Light.

Personally, I just like the fact that these figures exist at all. If I have to pay a bit more for some of them, then so be it. I haven't gotten a Darklon yet, I'm not even sure if I ever will since he's going for so much, but I'm glad that he's out there, because one day I might be able to get one.
