Did anyone get any new info or any kind of comfirmation on the Dollar General Joes at the Joe Con? I know they had the set on display at the con and was wondering if anyone actually spoke to Hasbro about these while at the Convention.

I know we have like a million threads on these damned things! I just wondered if there was any "concrete" type of news.

I was also wondering if they mentioned or displayed any wave 2 type repaints that have also been shown on other Joe sites.

During the Hasbro panel one of the Hasbro guys mentioned how hard it was to get DG joes and that they were very much aware of it since there are no Dollar Generals in Rode Island. They did say that they would continue to fight for wider distribution of this product.

I wasn't at the Con, but another site mentioned that Derryl DePriest, who was on the Hasbro panel, "is also trying to get the Dollar store Joe figures released in greater numbers. He has had problems finding them himself. Hoping to get them in other stores besides Dollar General."

Other than that I don't think that anything else was mentioned about them.

Since I do not have any Dollar General stores in my area this was my biggest concern which I was hoping whould be answered at the Con.

Oh well.

I'd like to know that too. Actually there are quite a few questions we've had as a community over the last few months, I wonder if people got any answers. Like about the movie delay, the cuts in articulation, the dollar figures, what will be making its way to the shelves until the movie, if there's another cartoon on the way, plans after the movie, etc...

This is second hand info, but I believe they said that there would be no wave 2 until they decided how to get better wave 1 distribution - ie. better service from DG or more stores involved in this promotion. In other words, wave 2 isn't likely to hit until 2013 or at least closer to the movie.

Now Hasbro employees know how the rest of us feel regarding the lackluster distribution of just about every popular line from them. TBT it serves them right after the last couple years of SDCC misery they have inflicted on us. But why can't they throw the DG Joe series on Hasbrotoyshop? Sure, HTS is pretty much full-case only now, but there is still plenty of demand for these.

And it would've been neat to hear some background info on how these came about. Given how they were pretty popular, I expected a bit more bragging about it from Hasbro.

Hasbro is unable to put these on Hasbrotoyshop. Hasbro produces and packages these, then Dollar General takes control of them. Dollar General ships them from China directly to their warehouses in the US. Hasbro has nothing to do at all with distribution, and that came directly from Derryl DePriest at Con.

That makes it sound like they are truly Dollar General exclusives and will remain so. Which seems to contradict all the other reports of Hasbro trying to get other retailers to sell them, which would be difficult if DG were the sole party responsible for them once they reach the U.S.

This is a VERY intresting topic NGC. I run a help thread for guys and girls who can't find the DG joes and I was able to get a case a week for a good while but for about a month every DG in my area, nine stores have been dry. I have had a couple managers tell me that they have been discontinued and have heard other tankers mention they have been told this too. So inquiring minds inquire. WTF is going on???

The help thread I mentioned
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-general-discussion/234869-operation-provide-dg-joe-comfort-thread-help-dgless-tankers.html

A few suggestions for DG, the figures need to be added to the stores plan o gram. I will not go to deep into what DG managers have been telling me. But the gist of it is, no home/peg.. no order. The stores in my town do not actually order them but instead they are randomly shipped by the wharehouse to the stores of the wharehouses choosing, whoever gets them gets them.

However....
I have with some sucess been able to jump start some stores and get them to request the figures and like I said was getting a case a week from one store. That was going well for a month, but recently the manager hasn't been able to order the figures. Not to sound like a broken record but there are problems at the DG warehouse. Some of what I have heard in this thread shifts the issues back towards DG and not Hasbro. No finger pointing just trying to figure out what the hell is going on??? An educated consumer is a better consumer, IMO.

How I got my local stores to order the DG joes

Hasbro didn't go into elaborate explanations. They simply stated that they were aware of how hard it was to get product and they would "try" to find a way to provide wider distribution. They then simply stated that there would be NO wave 2. They didn't say next year, after we fix problem, etc. Simply, no wave 2.

When the Hasbro Execs speak about 'improving distribution' this means increasing production numbers and/ or increasing vendors.

We have numerous Dollar General Stores in my area and each store got one initial case but, none have restocked since the first case. I empathize with you who cannot find them but, for us in Ohio who don't have Ross stores our situations are similar- we cannot find the clearance Resolute Box Sets or Toys R Us Spirit or Quick Kick.

The issue lies with DG. It's not going to get fixed until, as daveviper said, these are added to the planogram. Without being on the planogram, they don't have a dedicated sku for reordering. I tried to get a store to order them and they had a hard time looking up the info on the figures. They do not have a sophisticated inventory system that gives stock in other stores or their warehouses. All they can see is if they have any in transit.

On another note, I want a clarification on the semantics of wave 1. Are the color variants running changes of wave 1 or are they wave 2?

The manager at my local DG was able to order me a case several weeks ago but they never showed up. The order still shows to be valid but not delivered yet. I think that further justifies the warehouse issue story/theory.

This just goes to show more incompetent management at Hasbro...1) There are no DGs in RI and they JUST figure it out that its diffcult to find them? WTF 1 2) Oh noes distribution is again a problem for a line of thier Joe toys? WTF 2....

They apparently still cease to learn from past mistakes...its crazy....the design team needs to quit and go help SK Omega at this point...start a new toy company that does O-ring and Modern Era figs and give Hasblow some competition...

Its great to continue reading the assumptions by the people that have NO CLUE what they are talking about and were NOT at con.

This. I am *hoping* wave 2 does not refer to the repaints GV shared.

If somebody knows, please clarify.

Get them on HTS.com. You'd never know they work with a web site. There's no point in not selling any and waiting for retail to pick them up.

It's true that only those who went to the con would have any knowledge of this subject. I know for a fact that I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm just happy to be able to read the commentary of those that do.

I'm gonna go out to the sandbox and play with my little plastic soldiers now. Sure is hot, hope I don't bake my brains.

I was at Con and was in that sesssion with DePriest and the toy designers (not the marketing or distribution guys from Hasbro) - it was funny seeing them demonstrate the "battle kata" fighting style...twice.

I was about to ask the question about the DG figures, but two guys beat me to the punch. Basically, DePriest responded that he too was frustrated at not being able to get these in Rhode Island and that it was a distribution issue.

The panel (remember, they are the designers - not Hasbro distribution and marketing) was thanked for providing these figures - and I agree - are a great direction for the line in getting more Joes in the hands of kids (and adults) through smaller chains like DG.

Basically, they stated that they would not produce more waves until distribution was cleared up - meaning that we would possibly see more at the dollar stores - which is a good thing. As fans we have to say thanks and buy these up when they are available mass market to support the brand. I know dollar stores (and DG) are all over, so I personally can't wait to add more to my collection as more waves come out.

Did anyone see the prices for the DG Joes on the Con floor? $20-40....wow. I should have bought more to trade!

The 'distribution issue' seems like a way of saying there is no product to distribute until Dollar General- or another retailer agrees to purchase more because the product which was made has been sold.

Hasbro cannot make another production run until they have a contract in place with a retailer to sell them. 'Improving distribution' means increasing production numbers and/ or contracting another vendor to sell them.

I for one am not going to speculate on what is going on with Hasbro and DG but my experience has been that the 11 stores within 20 minutes of my house each got a case the week these first were reported and not a single one has gotten them again nor can they get them again, so they say. I wish I wasn't so broke at the time they came out as I got some Cobra Officers and a Shipwreck but the rest all sold out before I could get out when I had more dough.

the state of these figures is pretty unreal. that's all i can say. i have stopped checking the dozen or so DG stores around me. just a waste of time & gas. until the "distribution" problem is cleared up, i guess we; collectors/enthusiasts will just have to spend our extra $ elsewhere (or in my case, save it). oh well....

That is why I posted the thread! So I can get real grown up answers to what was actually stated at the con.

Something that all of Hasbro's lines are currently suffering from.

About a month in, this is where I stand. Ordered, not delivered. But I check each week after I know the totes have allegedly been sorted and unpacked. Generally, Saturday morning. That said, these are slowly infiltrating my area. Though I have not seen them in my home store, they have turned up in two of the six local locations. I have yet to see a full case, but seen two or three on non-designated pegs.

None of the 20 some odd stores around me have re-stocked. The Manager who ordered a few cases for me says the order is still in the system, but shows as not delivered. She can still place orders for them, but there may not be any product for her to order.
