Perhaps, but I'm sure that everyone has family members or co-workers who are still old fashioned or too set in their ways to accept someone coming out even in this day and age.

There's still a very high suicide rate amongst teens because they're scared to death about revealing who they are to their family and/or friends. Every time a celebrity, or someone in the public eye stands up like this, it might be the one step that saves another kid.
