After reading the BS that happend to Flint071. I started this thread.
I had some tool-box push my wife...who at the time was holding my two year old daughter, during the parachute drop. Both me and her brother where on the roof dropping the troops down having a blast. At no point in my mind did I think my family maybe in danger. …just sad!
My wife told me after he tried to push her down and failed to grasp a Para trooper he jumped to the ground and crawled under the fence to get one. ..Again just sad!
I hope this was not a tanker! When did it come to this really people stealing and pushing down women and children for Joes?
But for the most part great con and great people!

Nice I spelled stories ….story’s to the header….must still be hung over from the con!!!!!
How about all the a-holes teenagers that would not move out of the way as I was wheeled around in the wheelchair by my wife
People not holding doors
Running in front of us
Not stopping so we could get around
Blocking main walkways
Not allowing us on the elevators first when we were waiting there BEFORE you
I can keep going but I just got in and I am tired after a 6 hour drive.

I agree totally...I met nothing but great people at the show. I got to encounter individuals that I have talked to for years on the tank and have never had the chance to meet in person till this weekend. Believe me one unscrupulous jerk did not change the fact I had an awesome time with good people.

We had an amazing time!! I'm sorry to hear that about you with the wheel chair! My boys are totally hooked! We had some really great experiences. An older collector gave my boys their Vouchers for the first round of chips. Then one of the Hasbro guys (I went to bed early as I was feeling sick, and my wife didn't know who he was) gave my boys $3500 in chips, that they then doubled and were both able to get two great items! The last day of the con one of my guys found an IG trooper that Gyre-Viper had intentional put out for a contest and my two guys won a complete Oktober Guard set!!! We also spent alot of time talking to the Hasbro guys who totally listened to their ideas and promised to help my oldest with his Zombie movie!! We're still here and they have not stopped talking about the convention! Every time we walk by the area the hope they might run into some of you guys!!!
Sucks man...sorry to hear that happend. Did you still enjoy the con?
I was pretty sore throughout so I didn;'t get to go out as much as we wanted to

Haha, no bro
I herniated two discs in my back (just found out last week even though I have been dealing with it since February)
I couldn't walk and stand for long periods of time and if I did, I paid for it later at night when everything tightened up and I couldn't lay down for bed.

My room was in building 3, third floor. Went to bed early so I could get up to catch my flight today and I got woken up by a bunch of screaming teenagers running from room to room screaming in the hallway, I dealt with it until 11:00, figured that was reasonable enough, but I ended up calling security. Within 15 minutes or so I heard someone yelling at them in the hallway telling them they had to stay in their rooms... I hate unsupervised kids...

You think that's bad, while on Bourbon Street I watched a cop on horseback nearly put a Con Attendee into the hospital when he was riding his horse to break up a fight. Plowed the poor girl into a brick wall and didn't even get off his horse to see if she was ok. He just said he was in a hurry because he had to break up a fight.

They weren't part of JoeCon. I think they were with some church group of like 5000 kids that were there for some other gathering at the convention center near the hotel. I was riding the escalator and talking with my roommate and said something to the effect of, "Aww shit man that mini-fridge in the room froze this beer, too! Dammit." One of those kids turned around and gave me a dirty look and I noticed his t-shirt said the name of their function on it and he had a bible in his hand.

There was a similar convention of teens and college age kids the last time joecon was in New Orleans too. The difference being last time I was in my 20's still and would go out with them to bourbon street as they were going against the very reason they were there for the show. Now I just go out with you guys and watch you get hammered.

Heard that same thing when I had my heart attack 2 years ago.
I wish I could have been at the Con... maybe next year when I actually have vacation time. Nothing quite like experiencing D-bags in person rather than living vicariously through others stories.
Back to that group of kids
For being on a church mission, they were some of the most ignorant and ill-mannered people I have ever encountered.
When someone says "Excuse me" you move. You don't continuing standing there. I then said it much louder and forceful and I AM THE ONE that got the dirty look.
My wife was taking care of checkout etc. As she was leaving the elevator area, there were girls screaming at the top of their lungs about the elevator and these two 6'5" goofs coming running around the corner and smck right into her stepping on her feet etc. Didn't say "I'm sorry" nothing. Just kept going.
Haha
Then as she was getting on an escalator some dirty looking guy says to her as she lets him get on the escalator "You gonna walk in front of me?" and he then turns around and gets close to her and says "You gonna touch this body?"
She says "Uhhh no"
He got a little closer and she says "Touch me and I will phucking scream"
Can't imagine what Bourbon St would have been like.

What I find so shocking is that these things happened in New Orleans. Say what you will about NOPD, but when it comes to crowd control, no other police force comes close. They have controlled Mardi Gras, Super Bowls, Final Fours, Essence Fest and on and on.
No place can handle large conventions like NOLA can. That is the reason it is the most popular Super Bowl destination.
I'm still wanting to hear folks stories about my city. Did anybody venture to the Aquarium, the zoo, the WWII Museum. Did anyone eat at any of the many world famous restaurants?
I should have done a thread ahead of the con reccomending non con activities other than Bourbon Street. Bourbon Street, and the rest of the Quarter is like Disney World New Orleans. Visiting Bourbon is not the real authentic New Orleans experience.

this thread somes up why i dont go to conventions anymore. granted ive only been to comic conventions but the crowds at these are generally the same im sure. a bunch of people crammed into a small area bad shits going to happen. not everyone is going to have a good time.
something of yours get stolen? well were you keeping an eye on your stuff or was it left around a group of strangers.
you got bumped or pushed? sorry thats goign to happen in a crowded area.
somebody was an asshole? once again, confined space with lots of people. someones going to have an attitude.
im not trying to be a dick or piss anyone off but lets face it. theres alot of assholes in the world, expect to find them at conventions. if you buy something of value at one of these and dont want to lose it then either bring a bag to keep your stuff in or make sure you never take your eyes off it. cause once you let your guard down, its going to get stolen. protect whats yours and dont trust people you dont know and expect them to look out for you. not going to happen for the most part.
EXPECT SOME PEOPLE TO SMELL LIKE SHIT. some of these people have no life and do not practice good hygien. no joke. i stood next to 2 people for 30 minutes on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY that smelt liked theyd been rolling around in their own feces.
if your there just observing an event going on and not partaking in the activitiy you may get pushed a few times. dont be suprised when it happens. yes its very rude but it will happen and should be expected.
im sure i come off as an a-hole or d-bag but i can promise you i dont agree with any of these actions, I just know that they happen. some people truly are victims, some people just make themselves out to be victims.
now my question is, is there a thread about positive things that happend there, or are the positives not worth talking about?

In the kind of weather we had at the con, you could take a shower in the morning, walk around and sight see for an hour or so, and you'd still smell like jungle ass, cause it was so hot and humid. This was one con where I would understand if someone had a slight BO problem even if they did take a shower. Smelling like a junkyard, no.
Ughhh!! I have encountered this before also. Almost at every con I have gone too, there is always that guy that either reeks of BO, or has zombie breath. I guess the adult collector set has a few undesirables. Who knew!!!

Can't imagine what Bourbon St would have been like.
what happened to ur wife sucks i used to do the youth group thing back in high school so i know alot of these types are aholes, as for the old dude i suggest mace and learning local taser laws my x had some ass hat do this to her at a movie. i was in the bathroom but when i got back his ass was on the floor and she was giving the story to the theater manager.
Last note on the church group although this is sorta funny....
Wife checked out and was on her way back up to leave when she encountered a group of boys from this group
As she walked by them one of them said "Looks like someone is cold" referring to her nipples and the top she had on.
Without missing a beat, my wife replied "No, they are ALWAYS like that."
I had to pound her potato and give her props for that!

As much as I would enjoy going to a Joe con (and might one year), what I am reading in some of these posts is reaffirming my belief that sometimes the best place to be is at home.
Lody, I hate to hear what you and others experienced with this group of young people. As someone who has been on several mission trips and chaperoned some as well, let me assure you that not all groups behave like that. It sounds like this particular group lacked any supervision and/or leadership.

There was certainly a lack of adults around.
We can't even remember seeing any of them.
Considering they were with a youth group from a church and seeing how the kids from my church act, that group was a huge disappintment.

The family and I did the WWII museum, the Haunted History ghost tour, Cajun Encounters swamp tour, the aquarium and the zoo. Of course, I know what you're saying as this was one of many trips to NOLA I've done.

I don't want to call this guy a d-bag, but he was an odd duck. I ran into this guy, a general admin, from Arizona who claimed to know everything there was to know about GI Joe. I've been to 10 cons, been in the online community nearly 20 years and have been collecting the toys and comic since '82. When you've think you've seen everything, THIS guy makes an appearance. Maybe he knew everything, maybe he didn't. I really don't care, I am not there for that. Bold statements to be saying as you are marching into your first show. Anyway, he said he came to con for two reasons, A.) to find someone who knew more than he, and B.) to find a woman...yes, you read that right, to find a woman. Now, I am not saying its impossible. It's plausible, but this is really the last place I'd be looking...if I had to look.
Also...again, not calling anyone names, but to the guy who read off the LIST of stuff for Hasbro during the Hasbro presentation, you probably would have been better served to talk to them in person instead of monopolizing the one-time 50 minute session from Hasbro the rest of us will see all year. Again, not criticizing, just saying I would have approached it differently. At least no one asked for a Flagg, Defiant or Terrordrome.

I heard there were these dickhead guys in the store line. They were drunk and dropping f-bombs around women and children. And when a club worker told them to knock it off, they got loud and things started to heat up. And they called the club worker a jerk for asking them to behave in a civilized manner

Uhg, that is one of my personal fears, because I get loud when I drink and I curse a lot. Shit, I'm loud and curse a lot when sober. But I can say that wasn't me or my friends, and if someone reminded me there were kids around, I would have apologized even if drunk. I try to watch my mouth around mixed company but I admit, I have been guilty many times of this.
Then there was the whole "ninja, please!!!! Don't be running up on a ninja like dat!" and "You best diversify your bonds, ninja!!!" conversation in the hotel bar when the Ninja cosplayers walked by...I was pretty loud and drunk then, too.

There was this other dude that was driving EVERYONE nuts.
He was talking to the guys at JoeArmory and asking him what figures from this year's set would be worth getting and the most valuable since they were selling individual figures.
The prices they had were typical for the show so no issue there but he was cheaper than a few others. Now he told this guy that and he kept going on and on and on about it. So the guy tells him,
"Dude, most of the sets are HERE, NOW
You walk out of here and next week they are going up in value because everyone wants them.
You either pay for them now at the lower prices at the show or watch them go up and say you wish you had picked them up at these prices"
This of course was the same guy that HAD to take pictures of the two boxed Flaggs (now one after they sold the first) and went on and on about how Hasbro should re-release it
THEN
there was the GOLDEN TICKET holder (hold on, this is important)
That walked up to me as I was rummaging and asked what was so important about all the little guys in the plastic bins......
Golden
Ticket
Holder
I tried to be nice but it was a jaw dropping encounter.....

I don't think there is another town in the US that could host a Joe show with the amount of debauchery so close at hand as New Orleans. So this was probably the worst show you could possibly be injured at.

Just got to NOLA for a work event tomorrow and those kids are still in the hotel. They seem a lot more well mannered so far but we've only been in the lobby for check in and dinner at Drago's. Not to mention the dealers will usually cut you deals the more you buy. You can always haggle a bit and get great deals. You also get to shop around at tons of dealers so you're bound to find whatever you're looking for. Like The LOC mentioned, it's great to hold the product in hand and examine it before you buy it.

"what was so important about all the little guys in the plastic bins......"
You should have said they gave you that golden ticket around your neck.

My wife keeps telling me we need to do a JoeCon but after some of the negative stories in this thread it might not be a good idea. I reall don't want to end up in jail in a different state cuz I couldn't bottle my temper at the wrong time. Don't get me wrong I'd still love to meet a bunch of you guys in person, but there are days my people BS guage is pegged out and I really dont wanna lose my shit. I know we dont have any vacation plans for next year, so depending on location its a possibility, now im heading over to the positive thread to bolster my chances of braving next years.
How far out will they decide where next years will be?
NO…NO…Go look at the positive tread you will change your mind! Other then various idiots here and there and not being able to do anything about some scalper that pushed my wife and child down for a paratrooper. I had a blast…meeting up with tankers, talking with the Hasbro community, IDW people and the artists.

Nah dude
You should have come over
I love meeting you guys and trading war stories
I am hoping next year to be fully erect though as this did put a damper on this and kept the debauchery to a bare minimum
^____ stop eith the softballs!! If your wife was there, I'm shocked you weren't fully erect the whole trip.

While walking to the St. Louis cathedral, my wife and I were surrounded by three 7-9 year old locals on bicycles. One of the started laying down a freestyle rap and called me "Bigger than a Nigga" which I thought was pretty funny as I'm a white fat ass. Then he called my wife "Bigger's Nigga Bitch" and I lost it. I wanted to be offended but the kid had mad flow. Laughed my butt off for two blocks.

2nd Guy..Yeah I wanted to scream with that five to seven part question! He makes us all look bad!
Yeah, I remember turning around and looking at that guy with his list of comments in his hand. That was a real tool-bag move on his part. The only folks I was less impressed with were those who thought it was a good idea to show up at the exclusives pick-up drunk off their asses. Loudly cursing and heckling the club staff while in line with families and children is weak. Amateur alcoholics ruin it for the rest of us.
