I was surprised to see Hasbro touting an "Ultimate" Snake Eyes coming soon...I think we are all pretty satisfied with the POC SE as the best version....
But I'm such a sucker for Snake Eyes in general and especially the classic V2, I had to check it out.
Huh.
Really underwhelming. First of all, wasn't this pretty much done already with Hall of Heroes?
Plus it's obvious the torso and legs weren't sculpted for SE...they were that Cobra Diver guy....look at the piping on the wetsuit and legs...
He's a tad skinny too, isn't he? And I understand what they were going for with Timber, but man, that just looks like a mess to me!
I know what you'll say...."If you don't like it, don't buy it!" Well, I'm on the fence. The ankles are more accurate to the original figure and I suppose the head is as well. And the holster and sheath are functioning. But other than those SMALL points, is it really any better than the HoH version? I think overall it's a step backwards! Maybe sticking the ankles on the HoH one is the best way to go?
I thought HoH was perfect except one small detail....the sweater collar from V1 that shouldn't have been on V2....but this "Ultimate" figure has obvious flaws too, like the stupid scuba wet suit!!
I know this is the very depths of anal over-criticizing, but hey, it's the internet right? Just thought I'd throw it out there and see what you guys think.
If it were the old days and I could just go to the store and pick this up for $5-10 than yeah....I'd do that. But thinking of the hoops I'd have to jump through if I want this guy...I don't know if it's worth it.
The ULTIMATE modern take on V2 Snake Eyes? I guess there isn't one that's totally perfect, but I still think Hall of Heroes edges this one out unless they make some changes. Thankfully we still have POC though as the be-all end-all Snakes.

I'm pretty happy with PoC one as my V1 and the five pack from 09 being my V2. This really doesn't do anything to scream MUST HAVE!
Yeah, I like the meaner looking Timber, but I don't see bying another SE just for that.
But to be honest, PoC Snake Eyes has been the only 'Ultimate' I've liked, and I'm not even a big SE fan.

I found that true of most of the "Ultimate" versions this year. I guess we as fans have started throwing that term around a lot and Hasbro wanted to own it. The "Ultimate" Firefly is not the figure with that name but the one in the three pack. The SE looks good but doesn't really stand out from the 25th v2 SE figures, except perhaps in articulation but that was hard to see in the pics (it looked like it had the ankle rockers but not the superior wrists). Ultimate Duke looks really good, but its certainly not a Classic Duke.

I'm feeling like the use of the word "ultimate" is nothing but marketing hype. If it really was "ultimate" it ought to stand out as better than any previous version. It really doesn't. Of course my Ultimate Snake Eyes was made in 1985 so what do I know? :)

I'd be interested in this figure if it came with an Ultimate Timber. I hope Hasbro articulates animals' legs at some point.

Im not going to say if you dont like it dont buy im going to remix and say, " There is a Snake Eyes figure made for just about every wave of GI JOEs.... you might start thinking about skipping one once in a while." Seriously, how many different versions of SE are we going to get from Retaliation before this Ultimate version comes out?

That SE is stoopid, I definately want that shit so I can retire my 25th one.

I think the only thing positive in that figure is in fact Timber they tried to do an upgrade of the ARAH Timber.
All the timbers we've seen since 25th were not close to the ARAH one some were ok others not really. I will probably use that Timber on my 25th V2 SE from the last 5 pack as for the figure I will see what I can use like better gear and more articulation. I think that the head sucks so I will stick with the older one that is for sure. Also the sword is the same but this one ain't painted which sucks.
Overall these ultimate figures seem cool and I will get all of them for sure.

Yeah "ultimate" is something they have been throwing around in the Spiderman department too. Its funny for them to claim ultimate when that is meant to be a end all. What do you do after ultimate Snake Eyes? Hopefully Baseball Snake Eyes or Fisherman Snake Eyes is next.

Personally, I think POC was the "Ultimate" Gi Joe line. Beachhead, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Firefly, Hawk, etc. were all given the royal treatment. Tons of accessories, awesome sculpting and articulation. The only thing missing with PoC V2.0 of Snake-Eyes is Timber, but even then I did not miss him.

The problem with "Ultimate" in Spider-Man or any of the MU figures is that there is such a thing as the "Ultimate" comic series. Thus, the "Ultimate Thor" is likely to mean the one from the Ultimates comic series. Same with Hawkeye, Captain America, Hulk, and others. What has been just as annoying with those figures is the "Super Articulated" title. This was given to an upcoming IM figure that has less articulation than any IM2 figure!
Overall, the "Ultimate" GI Joe figures aren't bad, but they also are not likely to be what fans refer to them in years to come.

I look at it this way. Imho it is by far the best rendition in modern form of the classic 1985 SE. I think the head sculpt alone blows away the HOH version. The "little" things on this figure are what I love; the working holsters, extra articulation, etc.. I think it is a great figure and I plan to buy a couple of them. It will definitely replace the 25th Snake Eyes I have on my shelf representing the 1985 SE.
However, I still think the details, accessories, and over all modern features of the POC SE still makes it a far superior figure. The POC SE is still my default SE. Also, if Hasbro would have made this new SE before the POC SE figure I think many of us would have been more blown away. But, the POC SE is a tough act to follow, or follow up.

It's just a name. If you don't think it's really that great, don't buy it.

Easy pass for me. I don't see anything ultimate about it at all. Just another SE.

Oh the DDP SE with dead bunnies from the 1st arc. "He was hunting without a gun". Was SE in the baseball game with wild bill on top of the pit?

I agree with those that stated the poc version was the ulimate version of snake eyes to date (I personally have 2 of that version). This one is definately a must have for those that want an up to date version of the 85 snake eyes. I plan to get at least one.

City strike Se is the ultimate for me.
Wow sounds cool I might be getting one if the price is right!

I'd have to see the SE up close to say for sure.
As it stands, it seems "Ultimate" is just the term they're using now to describe "A fully articulated version that comes with good accessories."
"Ultimate" Duke may be the ultimate version of that particular movie costume, but to me POC Duke comes closer to "Ultimate" Duke than this version.
The thing that makes Snake-Eyes unique (and makes his POC version so definitive for most) is that it's not hard to switch things up between "Commando" and "Ninja" with just some accessory tweaking and a headswap. For most other characters, creating "multiple versions in one" like that just isn't all that possible.
Though honestly, I know I've pooh-poohed the idea before, but since they're already including alternate heads (one that effectively turns Duke into a troop builder), how hard would it have been to do a "perfected" version of the classic Duke costume, and just toss in, say one of the PoC Duke heads alongside a Tatum-likeness head?

Decent enough fig... nice headsculpt, but ultimately... totally unnecessary IMO. Hehe.

ignoring the completely pointless use of the word ultimate, it's a pretty good figure. those of us that didn't get a se v2 the first time around should be stoked.

Ultimate Snake-eyes is for those who collects the most-closest-resemblance-to-the-vintage-counterpart figures.
Currently the closest to the v2 Snake-eyes is a toss up between the Hall of Heroes SE w/ Timber & the one from the GIJoe Boxset 2. This one will surely replace those two as the best.

I don't think it's a bad looking figure, but I wished Hasbro would have just re-released the POC wave 3 Snake-eyes, hell I would rather have that with a few cuts to be honest. Just remove the Extra Pistol, Scar-L and the cloth on the web gear and keep everything else.
The Sculpt on Timber in the Ultimate pack looks quite nice, but I'm not crazy about a solid color timber, never was.
You know what Hasbro should really do though? Release of two pack of POC SE and a more realistic painted Ren SS with all their accessories and maybe just replace the Ren SS head with an unmasked version, hell if it doesn't cost that much throw in Timber as well or throw in Scarlett and make a 3-pack. Boom; Ultimate Silent Interlude 3 pack.
*sigh* I can dream can't I?

I will be getting this figure as I appreciate the effort to go even further to make a more accurate Snake Eyes, however I am both surprised by it and underwhelmed. I am guessing it will come with more stuff than shown at JoeCon. More guns would be nice, but a new packback that could store his falchion would be great.
I like the head sculpt, the 25th knight visor head sculpt for the HOH was okay but a bit small. The knight visor sculpts used for the multipack figures were cool but worked mainly for Sunbow-based Snake Eyes.
So I can see why an all new head sculpt was made. Is this figure necessary? No. However it does look decent for what it is and for those of you who wanted the HOH but missed out, this figure is perfect for you. I'm guessing someone on the design team figured "well, POC wave 3 Snake Eyes is an 'Ultimate' V1 Snake Eyes..we need an Ultimate V2 and a head swap just isn't going to cut it..".
Beats a neon dayglo Snake Eyes.

For me the POC wave 3 SE and the Resolute/ROC City Strike SE are worlds better and live up to the "Ultimate" tag way more then this figure IMO but its not a bad figure and will be copped

first thing i thought of was mermaniel starting the "ultimate" series of customs, and how it seemed to gain popularity around the customizer ranks on the tank. so to see hasbro use the term, i thought, they must be observing the trends around here.
