Thank you.
lol. I hope so. I'm sure Hasbro will throw us a bone or two. They know that after a season or two with no Joes on the pegs, there will be a ravenous collector horde with wallets wide open. After all Hasbro does like money...

Too late. Production-store time line is too long for them to do anything about it this last month.

I looked thru the 30th concepts again DAMMIT HASBRO make them, make them like you did the 80's where if we go into a store from now until march 2013 retaliation stuff hits we will see pegs with figures. I want the flint, definitly the beachhead and lady jaye. 99.9%of them I would buy in a heartbeat.

I don't see why they couldn't at least release the next wave if 3 pks; they seem to have little to do with the movie.

Hasbro's getting kind of hard to predict. I can't honestly believe that they were SO invested in the movie figures that they didn't keep the option open to seed in some traditional stuff, but hey, it looks as if they are making the same stupid-ass mistake they made earlier this year... hold everyone off for the big movie and then.... whoops... we didn't really mean to have a movie release, sorry for getting you chaps all worked up for nothing....

how depressing. MICRO FIGURES, when all of the DG stores around me have buttloads of them from the ROC movie in 09'. then on top of that Hasbro brings in tons of concept/near completed figure designs that just about any collector or enthusiast would buy/have bought & basically says, "hey, look at what we could've been spending our time & resources on instead of making repaints & useless movie figures". Not even any mention of the DG figures!? are you sending out more? or is it going to be repaints to be released next? these guys are getting are becoming killing off their fanbase (as if that hasn't happened before).

Hasbro claims they cannot even get there hands on them; they said that they would "try" to offer a wider distribution. Hasbro says there will NOT be a wave 2 of DG figs.

There's just no point. Retailers aren't going to reserve shelf space for Joe throughout the year, so they either wouldn't be interested, or they'd just get lost in everything else and not perform.
As much as it sucks, it's better to hold everything and have a big release again in 2013.

True that. If they dont plan on releasing these one day, theres no point of showing them. Just frustrates us even more....

so instead of showing us stuff that they think is coll that they wish they could get to us maybe their display cases should be filled with stuff that looks like butt saying see we could have given you this be happy with what you got?

The G.I. Joe convention is to celebrate G.I. Joe, in all it's forms, it's history as well as where it's going.
That's the point of the concept figures. To show the concepts that are being worked on, have been looked at, ideas played around with, etc..
We, the collectors, are a small segment. We're also a stagnant segment. We're not growng. We're shrinking. Someday, sooner rather then later, we will disappear. Does anyone here still see themselves collecting G.I. Joe when they're 60?
With us dwindling, where does that leave Hasbro? It leaves them needing to find a new market. So they do what they have to in order to find that market.
Can't fault them for that. They're a business.
Hasbro throws us some bones. The 30th line was one of those bones. Adding more to the 25th was one of those bones.
Retaliation is where they have to put their focus. That is what is meant/hoped to create the next generation.
Because of the length of time it takes to create the toys, from concept to finish product, Hasbro has to think years ahead. They can't just up and create a line and have it be on the store shelves.
It doesn't work like that.
Retaliation was planned far in advance of the June opening. Thats why the first figures don't look like the movie. The movie designs weren't finalized when Hasbro started making the figures.
The delay gives them a chance to take the 5 waves of Retaliation product they had planned and reshuffle, to try and make distribution and the waves better. And they are throwing us some bones in there (Night Viper, Crimson Guardsman).
They very well could be planning on releasing the concept figures someday. They could have been planning on releasing them as part of the 30th anniversary, prior to Retaliation. But let's face it, stores are not carrying G.I. Joe (for whatever reason, and it really doesn't matter why, all that matters is that they aren't) and Hasbro has to react to that.
Stores don't pick up the 30th? Hasbro has to cut the line back and not produce as much as originally planned.
They have to have Retaliation on the shelves. They don't have to have the 30th. The stores want the lines that have movies supporting it.
The movie delay, which was outside Hasbro's control, ruined everything. There is a plan for post-Retaliation, just like there was for post-RoC.
But the sales of RoC, which was more the fault of the retailers overordering the earlier waves then an issue with the product itself, made the retailers leery of Joe and without the movie to support it, they didn't want the product.
Basically, we'll see what the Post-Retaliation plans are, most likely at Toy Fair since that will be right before the release of the movie.
Chances are that some of this concept stuff will show up then.
Remember, it takes a long time to develop from concept to final product, so whatever is coming Post-Retaliation is already being worked on.
With the movie being planned in June, but pushed back at the last minute, there was literally no time for Hasbro to get anything together to release between now and March.
They could surprise us and cobble together some more internet 7-packs along the lines of the Cobra Island ones. Who knows. They could have some surprises up their sleeves.
Only time will tell.
But seriously, to get "frustrated" because they showed us concept figures? That's funny...

When y think about it, it's almost certain that fragments of these concept figures will show up. Once they've tooled some parts, they want to use them. I'm sure it's expensive to tool parts and NOT use them.
I would just love to see the coyote. With my luck, it'll be a convention exclusive one day.

And as for later waves of the DG figures...
Why on Earth if distribution is an issue with these figures, would they release more without first fixing the distribution issue?
That's dumb.
So yeah, if they can't even get them in Rhode Island, why would they do a limited release again?
They want people to get these. So they need to fix the distribution problem. Whether that's getting them in Family Dollar along with Dollar General, or just getting DG to spread 'em out better, they know something needs to be done.
It's like the retailers not ordering the 30th. Hasbro isn't going to keep producing figures and selling them if they're just going to sit in a warehouse and not get put on the shelf. And they're definately not going to be making figures if the retailers aren't buying them.

^ This
Look at Data-Viper. They found out post-tooling that this figure wouldn't fit into the packaging and couldn't be included in the waves.
So they have all this tooling, the parts are finding their way out: Sgt Airborne and the upcoming Ultimate Duke.
Hasbro doesn't really let anything go to waste if they can help it. If it exists, chances are it'll get used.
So that ups the chances of seeing it in it's original form at some point in time.
Just because we see these now doesn't mean they won't happen 5 years from now.

No we wont...maybe a part here or there like the unarticulated crap retalaition drivers...but nothing like they showed will ever be on the shelf in the next 16 years...cancelled is cancelled for joe...thier whole ruse of "the concept vault" should just be "the shit canned vault"
