Retaliation GI Joe Ninja Showdown Set Review
Just got hold of the Retaliation GI Joe Ninja Showdown Set and here’s my review.
Packaging & Out of the Box
Straight forward, the front box clearly shows the figures and the accessories of the set. Snake Eyes being at the center and the cobra ninja at the side.

At the back, package reveals details of the figures and somewhat the allocation of weapons. The box art is in a oriental theme.

Removing the set from the box, here’s what we get. It gives as an idea on how the weapons are allocated. Weapons are snug fit in the plastic bubble with tapes holding the smaller ones.
Here’s how I allocate the weapons.

Obviously missing in the Retaliation line are figure stands and file cards.
The boxset comes with a background art we can use when taking picts of these ninjas.

Storm Shadow
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/Retaliation%20GI%20Joe%20Ninja%20Showdown/e1.jpghttp://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/Retaliation%20GI%20Joe%20Ninja%20Showdown/e2.jpg
In his white uniform and combination of grey and black, this version of Storm Shadow resembles his most modern rendition in the 3.75”. He doesn’t come with any web gear. But quite noticeable is the large cobra insignia in the chest and to complement the body paint app, the mask also has gray paint app as well as a small cobra insignia in the forehead.
The figure comes in full articulation with the inclusion of the new ankle rocker.
Among the assortment of weapons that came is the modern bow that is different from previous releases as this one folds at the center.

Pair of dart blades goes along well with him as well as the bladed sphere.
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/Retaliation%20GI%20Joe%20Ninja%20Showdown/e5.jpg
Of course, a ninja wont be complete without his kitanna, though I have to say, the one with came with doesn’t really hit the spot. It doesn’t even come with seath to hold the blades when not in use…. The one thing that disappointed me in Storm Shadow in the set.

Snake Eyes
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/Retaliation%20GI%20Joe%20Ninja%20Showdown/f1.jpghttp://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/Retaliation%20GI%20Joe%20Ninja%20Showdown/f2.jpg
Snake Eyes is in his usual gray uniform with silver visor, knee and shoulder pads. Even without the webgear, the figure still manages to stand out with great detailing of the uniform.

With the web gear on, this version of Snake Eyes is a great representation of his ROC video game look.

I guess from the figures from this set, Snake Eyes is the most loaded in accessories/weapons It’s like this SE came out of the POC line.
Like Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes comes in full articulation with the inclusion of the new ankle rocker.
If there is one complain I have is that I just don’t like how the seath sticks out at the back when the web gear is on. This version of SE also suffers from the same hand problems that Renegades SE had… cant hold on to those small swords/sai.
Red Ninja
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/Retaliation%20GI%20Joe%20Ninja%20Showdown/g1.jpghttp://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/frenxy77/Retaliation%20GI%20Joe%20Ninja%20Showdown/g2.jpg
Last figure from the set is Red Ninja… making use of the 30th Renegades Storm mold sporting a different arms and knee/shin guard allowing the rocker ankle articulation. Paint apps is more black than red. For me, it would have been nice if the whole arms were in black.
The Japanese hat that came is one of the first that came in the joeverse which gives this ninja a samurai look.
Once the fencing mask is worn, we get a cobra Slice.

Having one of this will be good to have as leader of our Cobra Red Ninjas.
Zip-Line
Tried playing with the zip-line and I gotta say, I’m quite impress.
The figures can mount on via the forearm peg or by holding on.

Last Say
I gotta say, we’re quite lucky to have this boxset locally (in the Philippines) with Hasbro pulling out stocks when the movie was moved to be shown next year. I guess some of us will have to wait.
I’d definitely recommend getting this boxset because of the full articulation and loads of weapons that came with it giving the boxset a POCish feel just when Hasbro is cutting down on the movie figures.
The spring loaded zip-line is quite functional and gives added playability.
Yo Joe!!!
