I'm wondering if any other collectors have done what I did recently.

I recently moved apartments. So I had to downsize my toy collection. I gave most of my modern GI Joe collection to a good friend (a Tanker). I sold off my Takara Encore/2010 TF MISB collection, most of my Marvel Universe MOC collection, Anime PVC figures, GI Joe Comics collection. But I kept my prized graded collection and loose personal favorite modern GI Joe, Takara Encore TF, Star Wars and Marvel Universe figures. I still have a considerable amount of toys but very much less than before.

It was a nice bump in the cash flow and it felt liberating a bit, since I used to think maybe I was a hoarder. Selling off a lot of my toys has allowed me to focus on toys that really make me happy. So essentially it's getting away from the completist mentality.

But I also picked up a few toys on the way, including some vintage MISB/MOC to add to the collection and this:

I go through cycles, but I think that overall, I have less than what i had a few years ago. I've gotten rid of things that I never would've thought id get rid of, and I can't say I miss them. I've just learned to focus my collection on what I really want, or wanted as a kid but never had. That helps it to be scaled down quite a bit.

I understand that feeling, CG! Congrats on the new VAIO, btw.

I've been selling off my TFs at a pretty good clip, and it feels good to let them go! They're just sitting in totes in my attic. Let...them....go!

Plus, a couple of mine have skyrocketed in value. Thank you MISB Shadow Command Megatron! That's $200+!. I haven't sold him yet. Soon...

hahahhaha

- yeah I did that with my star wars stuff, so much happier with a solid collection that I feel really good about with no filler. Gi Joe I started to do that.. but then just started buying like crazy again. ughhhhh

It can be a really good feeling to downsize a little here and there once in a while.

I had to get rid of a lot of my stuff to help with a few unexpected bills I ended up getting, so now I just grab the ones I absolutely want and try to keep the collection small, very small. Right now I just want a Universe Starscream MOC or the Takara one, but I am sure the Universe is going to be cheaper., I had TWO of the Universe and the Takara one, but had to get rid of them. Sucks playing catch up.

I am really considering given the costs this year. I am thinking if getting rid of my IM2 shat and Marvel Universe stuff along wiht most of my mid sized transformers. I dotn enjoy those as much as my Joes. I may even totally stop troop building. After getting and working soooo hard to locate and buy and spend tooo much gas to find 12 DG Black troopers...I dunno if its worth it anymore...my armys is pretty damn large with 7-12 of each troop builder we have gotten since 2008 and its just not as much fun anymore...I mean ho w many is enough at this point? I hate picking em all up when they domino fall down....worst feeling is hearing them start...

Ooo... you didn't buy a Mac... proud of you. LOL. And you should probably only keep the stuff in your collection that makes you happy anyway... you pretty much should get rid of everything else IMO.

Yeah, I'm doing much the same. I have a lot of stuff I just don't use, care about, or have room for. I'm going to keep most of my Joe collection and some TFs, but a bunch of stuff has been sold or is pending. The problem is that when Joe stopped in '94-'95, I started buying other stuff, like Marvel and Batman figs. Now I just want to focus on my Joes.

I've never really downsized. I don't know if I could.

They say you should only buy thing that you like, which is what I do. I would never buy anything I don't care for, but my problem is I like a lot of things lol.

I guess it is funny to think that something such as plastic means so much to me, but everything I have in someway is a part of of me. Not in that hoarder sort of way when people don't even know what they own and can't get rid of trash piling up. But everything I own has to do with something I have a Geeky love for, be it my Joes, TF, model kits, ML, or even my Lego, it all means a lot to me as a collector.

Plus a lot of the stuff I own is from when I was a kid, it's nostalgic for me to look upon the very first toy I ever owned and all the ones I have gotten over the years up until just three days ago buying and adding Skydive to the collection.

Thanks. I'm somewhat biased to Sony dating back to the tape cassettes/CD player and Trinitron days. My TV, tablet, PS3, blu-ray and surround sound are all Sony. I'm pretty thrilled. I got the one with a good video card so I can play some of the more complex PC games. And the pictures I see online are huge. My old computer was a 14" laptop, so watching a movie from Netflix is also so much better now.

Congrats on the new VAIO, btw.

I understand the need to do it and it does feel good to remove filler in your collection. That is part of the reason I don't collect complete lines anymore. I only get the stuff I really want. Less is more.

I have often sat back and thought about the massive amount of cool collectible toys, both vintage and new that would be great to have. All kinds of series like Starcom, Shogun Warriors, Micronauts, Transformers, Aliens Hot Toys, Masters of the Universe, 60's Joes, Matt Mason and more. Then I though "Where the hell am I going to put all this stuff?"

This for sure!! I don't need a "complete" collection. I just get the stuff that makes me happy.

I will have to downsize in the next couple of weeks. For some reason I can never say no to multiple vehicles. I love to army build but I will have to scale it back a bit.
